[GNC] Saved report configurations

2024-12-03 Thread JW Zupancic
Hello,
I recently upgraded my desktop and laptop to a newer version of Ubuntu Linux
and also updated Gnucash. In doing so I lost all of my 'saved report
configurations.' I will now have to recreate those and would like them to be
the same on both computers.
It seems these files are resident on the hard drive somewhere. I keep the
Gnucash files in a directory on Dropbox and can access them from my laptop when
I am traveling. However, the saved reports are nowhere to be found within the
project files.
Can someone please tell me where they would reside within the program structure
and how I can keep them protected and shared between my two machines?

Thanks,

The saved report configurations are stored in a different location from
your book file, as you have found.

There are FAQs:

Q: I just got a new computer. What should I copy over from my old one?
A: You need to copy the same files that you'd backup, so see Backup.

Q: I moved/renamed my data file and my reports disappeared. How do I get
them back?
A: Reports are stored in a separate file in the GNC_DATA_HOME/books[1]
directory.…

For currencies under Securities option, retrieval is fixed to one source and no
you do not have to register with that fixed source. "get quotes" is all you
need to check.

When I look at the Securities option, I select the currency, is this example
GBP, and then I select EDIT. I have "get quotes" checked, but my choices when
"Single" is selected is locked to Currency.

Do I really have to register for something, just to get currency rates?

[GNC] .qfx import not remembering account assignment

2024-12-03 Thread Dale Alspach
Version: Build ID: Flathub 5.9 on linux mint 21.3

The last few months I have been importing investment transactions from TIAA
and each time the importer asks me to choose an account for Unknown
Investment Account x for the same four TIAA accounts. The
information precisely identifies the TIAA account so I am sure that the
same accounts are appearing each time and I am giving the same assignment
in my hierarchy. I do this requested assignment and the import works fine.
However the importer seems to forget the assignments immediately afterward.
I don't know if this is important but I actually assign two of the TIAA
accounts to one asset account and the other two to another asset account.
Is anyone else seeing this annoying problem?

Re: [GNC] How to restore a previous backup?

2024-12-03 Thread Geoff

Hi Billie

To borrow from the good Friedrich:

One who would learn to restore one day must first learn to stand and
walk and run and climb and dance and backup; one cannot restore without
knowing what one is backing up.

So, with many thanks to Jim DeLaHunt who just answered a similar question:

There are FAQs:

Q: I just got a new computer. What should I copy over from my old one?
A: You need to copy the same files that you'd backup, so see Backup.
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/FAQ#Q:_I_just_got_a_new_computer._What_should_I_copy_over_from_my_old_one.3F

Q: I moved/renamed my data file and my reports disappeared. How do I get
them back?
A: Reports are stored in a separate file in the GNC_DATA_HOME/books[1]
directory.…

And there are Wiki articles:
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Backup
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Configuration_Locations

And, of course, a closing pearler from FN himself:

On the mountains of GnuCash you can never climb in vain: either you will
reach a point higher up today, or you will be training your powers so
that you will be able to climb higher tomorrow.

Good luck!
