Re: [GNC] Set up a security, what now?

2024-10-19 Thread Boniforti Flavio
Hi Murugan.

Which other namespace would you suggest to use?
As we've already seen, ARCA does not work (at least it doesn't with
Alphavantage).

Thanks,

[GNC] CSV import/export broken in 5.x?

2024-10-19 Thread Dmitry Zotikov

Hi all,

has anyone else noticed issues with CSV imports / exports in GnuCash 5.x?

When using "Trading accounts", no transactions under Trading:CURRENCY are
included in the CSV export. Additionally, when importing the exported
file back,

I get this message: "No new transaction were found in this import."

Used to work just fine in 4.x.

How to reproduce:

* Create a new book with e.g. "A Simple Checkbook" account hierarchy.
* Tick "Use Trading Accounts" in the book properties.
* Set the currency of "Expenses" to e.g. GBP and "Checking Account" to EUR.
* Record a transaction from Checking Account to Expenses.  This would
correctly

create 4 splits (2 additional splits under Trading:CURRENCY)
* Export transactions to CSV with default settings (selecting all
accounts and

dates).  In the resulting file only 2 splits will be presents, i.e. no
  Trading splits.
* Remove the transaction.
* Import the transactions from the CSV file.  Use GnuCash Export Format
- the
CSV file will be correctly parsed.  At the "Match Transactions" step
the "No

new transactions" message will be shown.

Apparently some have -- see the thread from yesterday titled "[GNC]
duplicate transactions exported"

You did not specify which version 5.x or operating system you are using,
but in that thread, the final update indicated the problem existed in
GnuCash 5.0 on Mac OS X but was fixed in GnuCash 5.9. So update to the most
recent version and try again.

FWIW it worked for me just now amd to’s not supposed to matter. F::Q doesn’t
see the namespace—it wouldn’t know what to do with it—and gnc-quotes.cpp uses
the namespace only to avoid symbol collisions.

Try putting it back to ARCA, open Terminal, and run
   /Applications/Gnucash.app/Contents/MacOS/gnucash-cli —log
gnc.price-quotes=debug —logto=stderr -Q get /path/to/yourfile.gnucash

(Substituting the actual path to your file, of course). Paste the output into a
reply.

Hi Tommy!

So I'm using version 5.9 (Build ID: 5.9+(2024-09-28)) on MacOS ---
that's the
latest available one in brew. I had the same issue on Linux though, also
in the

latest version available from flathub.

Re: [GNC] Set up a security, what now?

2024-10-19 Thread David H
Boniforti,

It does work as per your original post from the 24th Oct using
Alphavantage, although for some reason I entered the ISIN as 3141 not
US9220427424 - not sure how that happened -
https://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-user/2024-October/113689.html -
I set it up out of curiosity:-) The first quote didn't arrive for about 24
hours - seems to be quite a delay getting quotes for this particular item.
Actually I had it set up for AUD currency and I think from memory the first
time I ran it manually it created a $0.00 USD entry.

Cheers David H.

[GNC] Australian Stock Exchange Module in Finance::Quote

2024-10-19 Thread John Ralls
I know we have a number of Australians here who have stock traded on the
Australian Stock Exchange and use Finance::Quote. Bruce called my attention
today to https://github.com/finance-quote/finance-quote/issues/404 and that he
intends to remove the ASX module from the next release. If any of you have the

For the record, AppData is hidden by default in Windows. You can tell Explorer
to display hidden files and folders, but It is possible to open it in Explorer
without changing the setting by typing %APPDATA% in the address bar.

Re: [GNC] Font size

2024-10-19 Thread Ken Pyzik
Phyllis — Not to worry. From what you have said, I think you can still fix
this.

First - if you are having difficulty. Try re-installing GNU from scratch.
This will get your shortcut on the desktop back and hopefully should get you
back to square 1. Make sure you are satisfied that you are at a good starting
place.

Now - if you have your file, use Windows explorer to find the folder where it
needs to go. The folder where it needs to go is listed on the GnuCash
HELP-ABOUT page. Go to HELP-ABOUT and look for the folder which is named by
GNC_USERCONFIG_DIR. The should be an Appdata\Roaming \GNUCash folder in your
user profile.

If you have trouble "seeing" this folder in Windows Explorer - make sure you
have all folders visible in Windows Explorer. I don't think it is a hidden
folder - but I could be wrong here since I have as my default that I want to
see all folders in Windows Explorer.

Once you can "see" this folder - you then can copy the file that you made to
this folder; restart GNUCash; and the new font should take hold.

One more thing — the file that you made may need to be like Joanna's. Mine
shows as one line — but I think hers is four separate lines. Either way —
GNUCash should be able to read it and adjust accordingly. Best of Luck.

Ken

Thanks Ken, et. all. I managed to mess it up. I cannot access c:\ in the file
explorer.  I created the file exactly as above, including the * {font:...;}
and filed it on my desktop.
I decided to open it to verify it was correct and got the message "gtk-3.0.css

desktop.
I can open GNU from a history where I found the exact pathway in the Help-About
and was able to get there by clicking on that to get here:

Do I just move the file from the desktop to this location?

Thanks in advance for your help. po

OK — For Phyllis and Joanna - Please bear with me. I do have a programming
background - so I have to be mindful to not be too technical. This is for
Windows. Steps:

  1.
If you don't have one already, you want to make a small text file called:
gtk-3.0.css
  2.
In this file, you just need one line of text: * {font: 14px verdana,
arial, sans-serif;} (format it just like I have it and notice, I am using 14
font and I am using verdana as the main one because that is what I like. Use
what ever size and font you want to replace the 14px verdana).
  3.
Save this file with the one line of text in the following folder -
c:\users\x\Appdata\Roaming\Gnucash (where x is your user profile). If
this does not make sense to you - open GnuCash and hit HELP — ABOUT. The
folder listed next to GNC_USERCONFIG_DIR is where the file needs to be.

Close out of Gnucash, if you have it open, and then re-open it and the new font
should take hold. If this does not work - others can chime in where I may
have made a mistake. Hope this helps.

Ken

Thanks for your reply, Ken. I'm with Joanna. I am not a programmer.
Anything that says change a register sends shivers up my spine. I don't
know what a GTK is. I'm on windows 11 with V5.8

[GNC] Font size

2024-10-19 Thread Megan Tilley
I, too, am having problems viewing my screen vs my reports. It's taken me
some time to get the Report Style-Sheets right, but every time I change
those Stylesheets, the Register font size appears to be affected as well.

I have been using my gtk-3.0.css file to make changes to
/* Application wide font setting */  <>
* {   <>
font: 12px arial; <>
}<>

However, I have no idea where to place the suggested
"gtk-theme-name=HighContrast" setting - is it after "font:12px" or outside
the last curly bracket? I'd like to document what I change and I thought
the "#" was the way to go... Instructions on various "how to edit gtk
files" are all quite fancy or do not address the HighContrast issue in
their examples.

Thanks!

Check out the sample css file at
https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash/blob/stable/doc/gtk-3.0.css - that
should give you an idea.

Re: [GNC] Set up a security, what now?

2024-10-19 Thread David H
I think you did a copy and paste from John's email the same as it did as I
got the same error as you. Make sure the dashes before log and logto are 2
single dashes not 1 single long dash - it's strung together as 1 long dash
in the email. It's a bit more obvious if you run ./gnucash-cli -h

Re: [GNC] Font size

2024-10-19 Thread R Losey
I believe GTK is "Graphical Tool Kit" - the computer and GnuCash have
defaults, so unless you want to change them you may not have a
configuration file.
