[GNC] Cannot get online quotes

2020-09-25 Thread Emilio Dorigatti

Hi all,

I am trying to setup online quotes as per the guide [1]. I am at the
latest version

# gnc-fq-update
Reading '/root/.cpan/Metadata'
  Database was generated on Fri, 25 Sep 2020 01:29:03 GMT
Date::Manip is up to date (6.82).
Finance::Quote is up to date (1.49).

And no errors are returned from check:

$ gnc-fq-check
("1.49" "adig" "aex" "aiahk" "alphavantage" "amfiindia" "asegr" "asx" "aufunds" "australia" "bamosz" "bet" "bmonesbittburns" "bourso" "bse" "bsero" "canada" "canadamutual" "citywire" "cominvest" "cse" "deka" "dutch" "dwsfunds" "europe" "fetch_live_currencies" "fidelity" "fidelity_direct" "fidelityfixed" "financecanada" "finanzpartner" "finland" "fool" "france" "ftfunds" "ftportfolios" "ftportfolios_direct" "fundlibrary" "goldmoney" "greece" "hex" "hu" "hufund" "hungary"
"hustock" "iexcloud" "indiamutual" "known_currencies" "lerevenu" "maninv" "morningstar" "morningstarau" "morningstarch" "morningstarjp" "mstaruk" "nasdaq" "nyse" "nz" "nzx" "platinum" "romania" "seb_funds" "sixfunds" "sixshares" "stockhousecanada_fund" "tdefunds" "tdwaterhouse" "tiaacref" "tnetuk" "troweprice" "troweprice_direct" "trustnet" "tsp" "tsx" "uk_unit_trusts" "ukfunds" "unionfunds" "usa" "usfedbonds" "vanguard" "vwd" "yahoo_json" "yahoo_yql" "za" "za_unittrusts")

However, dumping fails with all sources:

$ gnc-fq-dump -v europe AMZN

Parsing of undecoded UTF-8 will give garbage when decoding entities at
/usr/share/perl5/site_perl/HTML/TreeBuilder.pm line 108.

Finance::Quote fields Gnucash uses:

    symbol: AMZN (deduced)   <=== required

  date: ** missing **    <=== recommended

  currency: ** missing **    <=== required

  last: **missing**  <=\

   nav: **missing**  <=== one of these

 price: **missing**  <=/

  timezone:  <=== optional

** This stock quote cannot be used by GnuCash!

All fields returned by Finance::Quote for stock AMZN

stock   field  value

-   -  -

AMZN errormsg: HTTP session failed

AMZN last: **missing**

AMZN  nav: **missing**

AMZN    price: **missing**

AMZN  success: 0

And obviously fails within GnuCash, too. I don't know how I am supposed
to specify the currency? Or perhaps there are connection issues to the
servers?

Thank you for working on GnuCash, it's an amazing piece of software!
Emilio.

[GNC] Viewing Hidden Accounts

2020-09-25 Thread Michael Hendry
My bank recently cancelled my Visa Credit Card and replaced it with a
Mastercard, which prompted me to hide the redundant Liabilities:Visa account.

Realising that I might want to examine that account in future, and noticing the
pop-up help that advised me to use “Filter By” to bring it back into view, I
found I couldn’t access this option using the right-mouse-click in the Accounts
tab that I regularly use to access “Filter By” in other tabs.

Casting around for an alternative route, I found it in the View menu.

Is there a reason for not providing it in response to a right-mouse-click?

Regards,

Michael

I can't think of any, and I know it's hard to find when you rarely use
it, so I'd suggest a request for enhancement (RFE) on Bugzilla

[GNC] Is there any easy way to produce monthly reports?

2020-09-25 Thread Chris Green
The auditor here likes to see monthly figures so I need to produce
Cash Flow or Profit and Loss reports or something similar for each
month.

Is there any easy/quick way to configure these other than to select
the report, set the dates and save the report once for each month?

Also, are there any reports that show each month's figures in columns
on a single 'sheet'?

Surely lots of organisations want monthly figures.

Why would you expect to retrieve a quote for a US stock (Amazon.com) from the
French, Finnish, Greek, or Romanian exchanges, those being the modules the
export a "europe" method?

What happens if you do

gnc-fq-dump -v yahoo_json AMZN

?

Re: [GNC] Cannot get online quotes

2020-09-25 Thread Emilio Dorigatti

Hi John,

thank you for the hint, that command works correctly. Turns out I
misunderstood how exchanges work (beginner...), and the exchange I need
is not supported. US stocks work fine in GnuCash, so no problem there.

Emilio.

Yes, thanks Derek, I had to play a bit with the Report Options as they
default to having the Period Duration 'disabled' so don't show columns
at all. With the Period Duration set to 'month' the Income Statement
is pretty close to what I want.

[GNC] How to have Transaction Report show Debit Totals (&/or Credit Totals) ?

Is there anyway to have a Transaction Report show the total of the Debits

If you start with the register you want summed, you can run Report ->
Account Report and it will sum it up for you. Not the same as a
transaction report, because you need to configure everything from the
register before you run the report.

 I check that out. I can set the date range via Filter ByBut I can't see how to
make any other adjustments to what the report returns...
One example is if you wanted to see 2019 Checking Deposits from customers...or
2019 Payments to vendorsOr relative to a particular vendor or customer or
income or expense account
I will keep the Register Report in my bag of tricks however so thanks!

Use Edit>Find (Ctrl/Cmd-F). If you start in an account register the results
will be limited transactions having a split in that account. The results will
be in a new ledger-style register and you can run the account report on that.

However, dumping fails with all sources:

$ gnc-fq-dump -v europe AMZN

Parsing of undecoded UTF-8 will give garbage when decoding entities at
/usr/share/perl5/site_perl/HTML/TreeBuilder.pm line 108.

Finance::Quote fields Gnucash uses:

 ??? symbol: AMZN (deduced)?? <=== required

 ? date: ** missing **??? <=== recommended

 ? currency: ** missing **??? <=== required

 ? last: **missing**? <=\

 ?? nav: **missing**? <=== one of these

  price: **missing**? <=/

 ? timezone:? <=== optional

** This stock quote cannot be used by GnuCash!

All fields returned by Finance::Quote for stock AMZN

stock?? field? value

-?? -? -

AMZN errormsg: HTTP session failed

AMZN last: **missing**

AMZN? nav: **missing**

AMZN??? price: **missing**

AMZN? success: 0

And obviously fails within GnuCash, too. I don't know how I am supposed to
specify the currency? Or perhaps there are connection issues to the servers?

Thank you for working on GnuCash, it's an amazing piece of software!
Emilio.

Hi Emilio,

Source europe also fails with AMZN for me but source alphavantage works.
You have to set your ALPHAVANTAGE_API_KEY in the environment for
gnc-fq-dump and in the Online Quotes tab of GnuCash Preferences for GnuCash.

Does that work for you?

Chris Good

Re: [GNC] How to have Transaction Report show Debit Totals (&/or Credit Totals) ?

2020-09-25 Thread Adrien Monteleone
I'm using 4.1 on MacOS, and a basic Transaction Report (no special
options) shows both credit and debit columns with even a single account
selection. (the report is empty until you select an account)

Regards,
Adrien

Is there anyway to have a Transaction Report show the total of the Debits
column... or the Credits column... or both?
(I thought sure I had done this before but today I stared and stared at the
Transaction Report Tabs and didn't see it.)
Thanks for any help.

Re: [GNC] How to have Transaction Report show Debit Totals (&/or Credit Totals) ?

2020-09-25 Thread Christopher Lam
The Transaction Report cannot show Debit and Credit totals separately. The
Reconciliation Report can, however, due to a prior feature request, the
date filters from the reconciled dates.
