Need Help on GNUCash - import from quickbooks...

2017-10-09 Thread Vip via gnucash-user
 Hi,
First of All - congratulations for making such a great product and helping
users like me. We appreciate your help and hope that GNUCash becomes a 'The
Best' accounting software.
Need Help! I understand that there's no direct way to import quick books to
GNUCash and that's ok.
What I am trying to understand from an expert is what are the alternates to
import data from quickbooks - I mean, can we export data from QB in excel and
then what do we have to modify on excel so same excel can be used in GNUCash
import.
My long story short, I need to upload all the QB data to GNUCash so I can
forget QB forever. And I understand that there's no direct way and I need your
help to understand indirect way of import.
I do understnad that I can export in excel and then using some tool, I can
convert into QIF - and I think this job requires lot of work so it's better
that I export qb data in excel and import in excel - guncash.
I think this is a bit difficult question so I am trying to ask you in a little
bit different way.
1. Let's assume that I am using QB for my accounting having more than 10 years
of data.2. Now how  many excel file do I need to upload the data into GNUCash3.
What are the formats of all those file - meaning what fields do we need to
bring in.
My plan is to convert all my data in EXCEL / CSV and then just upload the data
into GNUCash.
Please help me out.
Thanks,
Vip

If you use a sql backend (sqlite is certainly the easiest to set up), it
saves everything you do as you do it. This means two things: you won't have
the catastrophe that you described, and you can't back out of changes by
closing without saving. Either way, you'll want to take periodic backup
"snapshots" of your books.

Re: [MAINT] More network maintenance for Saturday

2017-10-09 Thread Derek Atkins
Hi,

Just want to report that:

1) The card arrived and I performed the maintenance on Saturday
evening. It took much longer than expected to get the Ovirt Host to
   persist the new connection.

2) Alas, once I got the new card installed, the problem did not go
away. This implies that it was not the issue, so I need to go back
   and continue searching. :(

My next step is swap out my router with my older one, just to ensure the
router isn't the issue.

I thought the default was to auto-save every 5 minutes or something.
Are you absolutely certain that you have lost everything? Are you sure
you are looking at the correct file?

MySQL field question

2017-10-09 Thread Joseph Hesse

Hi,

In the gnucash mysql transactions table there are 2 date fields,

post_date and enter_date

What is the difference between them? When I enter transactions I only
enter 1 date and I don't enter any time data.

Thank you,

Joe

simple find transactions report

2017-10-09 Thread Elmar

Good afternoon to the list

I seem to be having a brain fart.  I am trying to retrieve all the
transactions (all dates) with a certain payee in the description field,
and only those transactions.  Somehow I cannot make the transaction
report do this - what am I missing?  It should be easy, which tells me
I'm at fault.

Re: importing

It's entirely possible that Frank has a "mybooks.gnucash" file that doesn't
have everything, and a bunch of "mybooks.gnucash..gnucash" files
which have (incrementally) more of everything, as well as the "*.log" files
which go along with them, but beign a new user doesn't realize what those
timestamped autosave files are.

“Posted date” is the date that the transaction happened and “entered date” is
the date and time that you performed the data entry. For example I posted my
grocery shopping receipts this morning though I’d done the shopping on Friday:
The posted date is 6 October and the entered date is today at 10:something.

The time on posted date is almost always 10:59:00UTC as that keeps the date the
same across almost all timezones; the exceptions are the mid-pacific timezones
of -11, +13 and +14. If anyone is using GnuCash there it uses 10:59 local time
so that they don’t see dates change when daylight time goes on or off.
