i18n stat paragraph in release notes

2009-09-21 Thread Frederic Peters
Hello translators,

You're all doing a great job and for a few release we added impressive
achievements to the release notes, for example in 2.26:

For this release two language teams have put in a stellar
effort, increasing the completeness of their translations by more than
20%. Congratulations to the Romanian and Oriya teams for their hard
work. Congratulations also to the Assamese, Kannada, Oriya, Romanian,
and Telugu teams, which each passed the 80% mark this time.

This paragraph was not updated for 2.28, I propose to use this:

For this release a stellar effort has been done by the Bengali team,
increasing the completeness of their translation by more than 25
points, passing the 80% mark with 83% of the user interface
  translated.

Are you all okay with this string change ? Do you think of other
teams that should be exposed for their exceptional effort?

Cheers,
Frederic

Thanks for this proposal. +1

Maybe we should mention teams that raised their translation status 10%
or more. This includes Welsh, Breton and Serbian teams.

Inserting images into Release Notes

2009-09-21 Thread Rodrigo Flores
Hi
I translated the Release Notes in pt_BR but I don't know if I inserted
correctly images in it. I renamed all the files for the same name as in the
C/figures and the "compilation" process using xml2po went ok and I was able
to see all images. Some of the images I could not get a translated version
of them, so I used the image file in C/figures. I uploaded the same pictures
and the DL give me a warning :-/.

What I have to do in this case ? Not including the file solves the problem ?
I have to update the md5 strings [1] in the po file ?

Thanks in advance

I don't know about Damned Lieds but you don't need to copy English
captures, it will fallback automatically to them.

If a picture is not translated, just leave the entry empty in the .po

Hi Rodrigo,

When you don't want/have to translate an image, don't copy it to your
figures directory. Build systems are clever enough to pick the figure
from the C directory when it is not available ni your locale figure dir.
Otherwise, that means space is wasted with duplicated content.

In the po file, you could either:
1. Let the msgstr empty, telling that the figure need translation but
you don't have any translated figure yet.
2. Put anything you want (even a simple space) in the msgstr, telling
that the figure does not need translation.

In both cases, the original C figure will be used, but the meaning for
you as a translator is different.

Hope it helps.

As Claude wrote, there are different situations:

1) Untranslated figure, just like any other untranslated string, the
   msgstr part is empty:
 msgid "@@image: 'figures/foobar.png'; md5=af9fe7edb29fcaefeadfb2f5987aa6e4"
 msgstr ""

2) Translated figure, figures/foobar.png in your locale directory, and
   anything in the msgstr:
 msgid "@@image: 'figures/foobar.png'; md5=af9fe7edb29fcaefeadfb2f5987aa6e4"
 msgstr "hello world"

3) Figure that do not need to be translated, don't copy the figure in
your locale directory, put anything in the msgstr:
 msgid "@@image: 'figures/foobar.png'; md5=af9fe7edb29fcaefeadfb2f5987aa6e4"
 msgstr "hello world"

I just "fixed" it and pushed a 2.28 branch.

In such situation the easiest is to mark the string as fuzzy, like
this:

 #: gdl/gdl-dock-placeholder.c:440
 #, c-format
+#, fuzzy
msgid "Something weird happened while getting the child placement for %p from
parent %p"
msgstr "%2$p valideynindən %2$p üçün törəmə yerləşdirilməsi alınarkən dəlicə
bir şey baş verdi"

Btw the problem in this string is that there are two %2$p.

I filed a l10n report,
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=595881

hamster-applet branched for 2.28

2009-09-21 Thread Toms
Hi all!

Hamster applet has been branched for 2.28 in gnome-2-28 branch.
Development will now resume in the master branch.

There are no major plans for 2.29+.
Just maybe a standalone window (read not-applet), smarter
auto-complete, more sophisticated reports, and integration here or
there - ideas (and hands!) are welcome!

Thank you all for the awesome work!
