Friend of mine was over on the weekend - I was doing some jpg work..and he
asked what software I was using - when I told him it's called the Gimp, he fell
over laughing. His comment "what is it about Linux geeks that they pick these
weird names" - even when I explained its origin it didn't help - He added "Ask a
car maker (like Ford) whether model names (like Edsel) are important".
And this stuff like "GNU is not Unix" drives me crazy.

Thanks, this works as well, why didn't I think of these? After all
I've been using GIMP for 3 weeks :)

[Gimp-user] Multiple gifs into animation

2007-05-31 Thread Frank McCormick

I am definitely a GIMP amateur - my wife wants to to take 3 or 4
gifs...put them together so each displays for about 1 or 2 seconds and
repeats forever. If possible a nice fade between them would be nice,
but a simple switch to the next GIF would be OK. I think she wants to
use them for a sig on some system she posts on. ( She always gives me
the simple stuff :))

Any help appreciated

Cheers

I don't know what version of GIMP you are running...but GIMP 2.6.6
under Linux (Debian) Squeeze does a similar thing. It locks up Linux
so tight I have to do alt-sysrequest and reboot. Check the GIMP help
"about" menu to find out what version you have. I have posted this
problem on the Debian mailing list but got no advice or answers.
Maybe I'll file a bug but it seems no one else is having the problem
under Linux anyway.

Same version I am running - but the developers seems to think the
problem under Linux is a question of running out of memory. But I
have never had the problem until now with 2.66. An earlier version
under Ubuntu Intrepid does not suffer the problem. Who knows.

I plan to do the same thing...version 2.6.3 runs fine on my
machine...2.6.6 give me constant lockups. One of the developers
thinks it's a driver issue..in his words "GIMP can't lock up your
computer" like it does. It may be a driver issue...but I can't stand
getting 2/3 through retouching a photo to find out the machine is
locked up.

[Gimp-user] focus blur

2010-10-01 Thread Frank McCormick

Hello all--

I have a jpg which I would like to blur the background (focus
blur I guess) - But I would like the blur to be gradual - when I
have done this in the past the line between blurred and unblurred is
too sharp. I have tried the feather selection, but it doesn't seem to
work very well. Any suggestions ??

Thanks

[Gimp-user] locked up file selection screen

2011-02-08 Thread Frank McCormick

I am running GIMP 2.6.10 under Ubuntu Maverick...and lately
have been having an intermittent problem with the file
selector.
It pops up seemingly locked-up so I can't change directories
or disks, matter of fact can't do anything but close it.
Anybody experienced anything like this?

The /File/Open. I can still drag an image in from Nautilus

[Gimp-user] Plugins and scripts

2011-08-20 Thread Frank McCormick

I am trying to make GIMP on my Ubuntu Natty installation match GIMP on
the other partitions, so I dDL'ed the smart remove and post rotate crop
scripts. Some are Python..others are scm?? scripts. Where are they
supposed to go anyway? The post rotate crop script is now in the GIMP
menu, but the smart remove/resynthesizer files and menu items are AWOL.

[Gimp-user] Errors in GIMP 2.6

2011-08-28 Thread Frank McCormick

I dl'ed a tarfile of scripts from gimp-fx factory at sourceforge
today...and later noticed a bunch of errors stemming from
/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plugins.
This is just a few of them :

GIMP-Error: Plug-in "script-fu"
(/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/script-fu)
attempted to register the menu item "/FX-Foundry/Layer Effects"
for procedure "script-fu-layer-effects-color-overlay".
The menu label given in gimp_install_procedure() already contained a
path. To make this work, pass just the menu's label to
gimp_install_procedure().

GIMP-Error: Plug-in "script-fu"
(/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/script-fu)
attempted to register the menu item "/FX-Foundry/Layer Effects"
for procedure "script-fu-layer-effects-gradient-overlay".
The menu label given in gimp_install_procedure() already contained a
path. To make this work, pass just the menu's label to
gimp_install_procedure().

GIMP-Error: Plug-in "script-fu"
(/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/script-fu)
attempted to register the menu item "/FX-Foundry/Layer Effects/"
for procedure "script-fu-layer-effects-drop-shadow".
The menu label given in gimp_install_procedure() already contained a
path. To make this work, pass just the menu's label to
gimp_install_procedure().

Why are the errors stemming from /usr/lib/gimp/2.0
Doesn't seems there are any scripts in there..just some executables and
some Python programs. Do those files still apply to GIMP 2.6 ??

In order to solve the problem I did a "aptitude purge gimp gimp-data"
I then reinstalled both...uncompressed gimpfx-foundry into my .gimp
directory. Bingo, no more errors. I still don't know what was wrong with
the old installation...but now it just works.

Nope, didn't work here. No change. Also renamed gtkrc to
gtkrc.bak..no change...and after someone else's suggestion on the Debian
list, renamed ~/.config/gtk/filechooser.ini, but it didn't help either.
This happens under Gnome and other window managers. Weird.
