[Gimp-user] Select the layer I click on
Hello, I have a GIMP project with more than 200 layers and since there are no "layer groups" (I can't remember the GIMP terminology for it) it's quite cumbersome to find the layer I'm looking for in the layer box. Is there any tool in GIMP for selecting (making active) the layer that I'm clicking? Thanks, Deniz Dogan ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
[Gimp-user] Forcing GIMP to use English
I'm running GIMP on a Windows Vista machine which uses a Swedish locale (but it's in fact an English Vista installation). Now I'm trying to figure out if I can force GIMP to use English and thereby overriding my Windows settings. Is there any such functionality? Sorry for not searching before asking. If anyone else finds this post looking for an answer to this question, the answer is something like this: The default behavior of the "move" tool is to move the layer you click. You can change this by doing this: Go to: Edit -> Preferences -> Tool options Check "Set layer or path as active" under the "Move Tool" section. It seems like there is no way to toggle this behavior by e.g. holding key. You'd think that holding the shift key would toggle the behavior, which the description in the toolbox implies. However, I can't get this to work! -- Deniz Dogan ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

[Gimp-user] GIMP plugin for faking a newspaper frontpage image
Recently a friend of mine showed me a picture where someone had taken a photo of a newspaper that laid on a table, slightly folded in the middle as newspapers often are. (See e.g. http://www.brogan.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/newspaper.jpg) This particular someone had then inserted a picture of himself, replacing some other picture that was on the front page. It looked pretty realistic, unless one looked closely. This got us discussing how this someone had put the picture of himself in there. The main problem would be to get the picture to "fold" according to the newspaper. We are both newbies when it comes to this sort of stuff, but my friend who is a computer graphics freak insisted that the person had used a 3D model of a newspaper and then simply "texturized" it with the image of himself. Personally, I thought (and still believe) that this can easily be done using a GIMP plugin in which one somehow selected the parts where the real image was located on the newspaper and then the plugin would perform some magic (skew etc.) to replace it with the other picture. Are there any plugins readily available for this sort of stuff? [Gimp-user] The best way to make a rounded corner box with a border

Fill the new selection with the box background color. What ways are there to accomplish it? Are there any cons to using the method I use? That means it's impossible to write a Script-Fu for it (unless you are *really* ambitious) and also that you can't use GIMP's gradients to fill the border or the background of the box. I personally don't think there's much of an advantage using Script-Fu as opposed to ImageMagick when it comes to batch processing. ImageMagick is widely used in all kinds of applications. It also has an abundance of filtering capabilities that you can easily use. That being said, I'm neither an ImageMagick wizard nor a Script-Fu/GIMP one. -- Deniz Dogan ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

(Note that I'm not a GIMP pro by any means.) The image you linked can e.g. easily be created using the following steps: 1. On the background layer create a gradient from gray to white. 2. Create a new layer. 3. On the new layer create a completely white box - select rectangle and fill with white. 4. Create yet another layer. 5. On the new layer select a smaller rectangle and fill it with a gradient which goes from green to lighter green. 6. Create a new layer with the green stuff at the top. I know that this is not what you were asking for, but I hope this helped you understand something new. :) -- Deniz Dogan ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
