[gentoo-user] Wireless problem

2008-05-29 Thread Rev. Ferris

Hi!
I have a wireless problem.
I bought yesterday a Zyxel G202 USB stick and I attack it of my
workstation.
This hardware is supported from zd1211rw driver.
I set all parameters of my network and I started it.
It works fine, pretty signal quality, good speed, etc.
After some "quiet" time, from my network monitor I noticed a lost in the
connection.
Now, if I restart the connection it works fine, but after a X time it
disconnects again.
I don't find any message on dmesg or /var/log/messages and for that
reason I have no idea how I can solve the problem. I think it is
something correlates with energy management.
Any idea?
Thanks,
Luigi

Unfortunately this card doesn't accept that command:
iwconfig eth2 power off
Error for wireless request "Set Power Management" (8B2C) :
SET failed on device eth2 ; Operation not supported.

Any other suggestion?
Thanks,
Luigi

iwconfig eth2 power all doesnt't work:
#iwconfig eth2 power all
Error for wireless request "Set Power Management" (8B2C) :
SET failed on device eth2 ; Operation not supported.
but I tried to put the zd1211rw driver in debug mode. When I lose the
contact I read by dmesg or in /var/log/messages:
[...]
zd1211rw 5-7:1.0: iw_get_range()
zd1211rw 5-7:1.0: zd_mac_get_channel() channel 6
usb 5-7: handle_retry_failed_int() retry failed interrupt
[...]
Now I can't understand if it is a usb power or a driver problem.
How can I test it?
Thank a lots.

Hi,
I want to install the new kde 4, but I see any 4.1 version ebuild.
I understood that the the series should be unmasked, but I don't know if
if installation needs something special (like the new use kde-4).
Anyone who installed/want to install it can help me to install too?
Thank you,

I tried this night to build the 4.1 trees using layman and this guide:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/KDE4
but I can't start the emerge operation because I found 2 blocking
packages:

[blocks B ] x11-libs/qt-core (is blocking x11-libs/qt-4.3.5)
[blocks B ] <=x11-libs/qt-4.4.0_alpha:4 (is blocking
x11-libs/qt-script-4.4.0, x11-libs/qt-dbus-4.4.0,
x11-libs/qt-sql-4.4.0, x11-libs/qt-gui-4.4.0,
x11-libs/qt-qt3support-4.4.0, x11-libs/qt-svg-4.4.0,
x11-libs/qt-test-4.4.0, x11-libs/qt-opengl-4.4.0,
x11-libs/qt-core-4.4.0, x11-libs/qt-webkit-4.4.0)

I see:
[ebuild NS ] x11-libs/qt-4.3.5 USE="accessibility cups dbus gif jpeg
mng mysql opengl png qt3support ssl tiff xinerama
zlib -debug -doc -examples -firebird -glib -nas -nis -odbc -pch -postgres
-sqlite -sqlite3"
INPUT_DEVICES="-wacom"

How can I solve this conflict?
Thanks,
Luigi

I did it already.
I solved emerging first qt and when it finished with its depends (about
12 qt libraries) I tried to install kde again; it worked.
After about 20 compiling hours, I can try now my new desktop!
Thanks a lot,
Luigi

[gentoo-user] unicode losting

Hi,
I update last month to new profile (using eselect) and since that time I
nitice that my unicode doesn't work properly.
I configured my gentoo-box using unicode wiki on gentoo website, but it
seems that new profile disactives my unicode setting and by update I
lost unicode support.
How can I solve it?
Thank you,
Luigi

[gentoo-user] KDE 4.1 with connection problems

Hi,
I notice a net problem with the new KDE version.
If I use konqueror as browser I failed each first connection trial on
all website. After timeout, I must just press reload and it cnnect with
the website.
With Kmail if I use manual email download (or the automatic download on
startup) it failed and, again, the second trial works.
How can I improve it?
I must use yet firefox as standard browser and wait every time to second
check (and close all error pop-ups)...
Thank you,
