2010-03-05 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi all,

While using equery, i get this warning :
"/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage/util/__init__.py:1121: DeprecationWarning:
The 'myroot' parameter for portage.config.getvirtuals() is deprecated
result = lazy_item.func(*pargs, **kwargs)"
Nevertheless equery 's working fine.

[gentoo-user] Strange python-updater error

2010-06-09 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi all,

After upgrading world, i installed python-3.1.2-r3 with already
installed python-2.6.4-r1
As recommended, i ran python-updater ; so python-updater added some
packages to the list as :
app-office/openoffice-bin:0
dev-lang/-MERGING-python:2.5
...

The output is an error about dev-lang/-MERGING-python:2.5 as invalid atom !
Where does that "-MERGING-" come from ?
Any idea about it ?

Thank you for your help.

Cheers,

with eselect python list, i get this :
# Available Python interpreters:

So python2.6 is the main active version ; therefore is it necessary to
mask it ?

[gentoo-user] X freezes with ati radeon driver

2009-09-27 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi all,

As fglrx ati driver does not work with >gentoo-sources-2.6.29-r5 kernel
and my ati radeon 9600 (RV350) graphic card, i try to use the free
radeon driver (x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-6.12.4)
I compiled the gentoo-sources-2.6.31 with AGP, DRI, VIA chipset support
and ATI radeon as modules.
X starts and works, but then randomly freezes.

In Xorg.0.log i get :

I saw several threads about it, so what's going on ??

Thank you for your help.
I found the same issue
http://bugs.gentoo.org/231198
So i patched the kaffe ebuild with kaffe-alsa-1.0.16.patch.
And then kaffe-1.1.7-r4 compiled fine.
Now it works and java-config -L gives
*)  IcedTea6-bin 1.6.1 [icedtea6-bin]
2)  Kaffe 1.1.7 [kaffe]

One question : what the use of Kaffe vm as i use IcedTea6-bin ?
Thanks again,

[gentoo-user] Missing icons in K3b

2009-11-13 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi everybody,

Since i upgraded k3b-1.05-r6 to k3b-1.68.0_alpha3, i have lost quite a
lot of icons (newcd project icon, newdvd project icon...) inside k3b.
They are replaced by a beautiful "?".
The k3b icons are in /usr/share/apps/k3b/icons/, but it seems that k3b
doesn't find them.

Any idea ?

Thank you very much

Hi everybody,

# revdep-rebuild --> All system consistent.
I re-emerged :
# x11-libs/qt-svg-4.5.3-r1
# media-libs/libpng-1.2.38
But no success, k3b doesn't load icons.
I think k3b doesn't even read the /usr/share/k3b/icons directory as i
deleted it without any change...

I noticed one thing with kde games (kshisen or else ): they are unable
to load *.svgz (background images).
I have to move *.svgz to *.gz, then to unzip then and move to svg.
Then the background images are loaded...
Strange...

[gentoo-user] [the end] icons missing in k3b

2009-11-19 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi everybody,

Some news about k3b and its missing icons.
I looked at your useflags and changed mine.
So i had to re-build plenty of packages and spent a very long compiling
time with my 8 year-old pc...
Well, after that,...nothing has changed.. :-(
http://sites.google.com/site/jacquesfr35/telechargement/k3b.jpg?attredirects=0
Never mind, the problem is not very important, so i stop here and will
use xfburn if i want all my icons :-)
As i work with Xfce4, i think i'll put all kde stuff away.

Thank you very much for your help.

Regards,

Thank you David,

Mine is
/usr/local/share:/usr/share:/usr/share/gdm:/usr/share
So i tried to add XDG_DATA_DIRS="/usr/share/kde4/" in /etc/env.d/43kdepaths.
But no success, log out then in does not change anything.

Hi David,

Oups i forgot to run env-update ( the problem was between the keyboard
and the chair...) !!!
Well, now i put all kde packages away, so no problem anymore and xfburn
works fine !
I'll also try brasero.

Re: [gentoo-user] portage conflict

2008-04-14 Thread Jacques Montier

Sergey Kobzar a gentiment tapote:

After portage tree update I have

# emerge -upvDN world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating world dependencies... done!
[ebuild U ] net-misc/rsync-2.6.9-r6 [2.6.9-r5] USE="-acl -ipv6 -static
-xinetd" 793 kB
[ebuild U ] sys-apps/coreutils-6.10-r1 [6.9-r1] USE="nls -acl (-selinux) -static
-vanilla% -xattr" 3,670 kB
[blocks B ] sys-apps/mktemp (is blocking sys-apps/coreutils-6.10-r1)
[blocks B ] >=sys-apps/coreutils-6.10 (is blocking sys-apps/mktemp-1.5)

Total: 2 packages (2 upgrades, 2 blocks), Size of downloads: 4,462 kB

and can't update world.

I thought unmerge sys-apps/coreutils or sys-apps/mktemp and then
update world, but it may corrupt my system.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi,

#emerge -C mktemp

#emerge -upvDN world

#revdep-rebuild

#Dynamic linking on your system is consistent... All done.

So, everything seems ok

Some days ago, i upgraded to Xorg-server-1.5.3 with hal use flag and
evdev drivers for PS/2 mouse and keyboard (with my 8 year-old AMD 1.2
GHz CPU).
I commented all the lines about mouse and keyboard in the xorg.conf file
and now use /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-x11-input.fdi.
I unmerged xf86-input-keyboard and xf86-input-mouse and everything works
nice !
For fun i plugged a second usb mouse, and then i got one mouse for left
hand and another one for the right hand :-) .

Thank you for your response, so i tried :

Packages installed:   1051

I upgraded to xorg-server-1.5 but i kept my xorg.conf with the Section
"Monitor", the ATI Section "Device" and Section "Screen".
In the Subsection "Display", i put the good screen mode for my monitor
(1600x1200 ).
Xfce works fine with the good resolution. You could try with 1024x768
resolution.

[gentoo-user] Links not working from Thunderbird-2.0.0.22 to Firefox-3.5

2009-08-04 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi all,

Since i upgraded Firefox to Firefox-3.5-r1, my links from Thunderbird to
Firefox don't work anymore.
In Thunderbird-2.0.0.22 : Edition -> Preferences -> Advanced -> General
-> Configuration Editor, i get :
network.protocol-handler.app.http type chain with /usr/bin/firefox.
Nothing happens when clicking on a link in Thunderbird.
In console /usr/bin/firefox works properly.
In Openoffice, links launch Firefox.
Everything is ok if i change /usr/bin/firefox to /usr/bin/midori.
I tried removing .mozilla and .thunderbird without any success...
What's wrong ?
Thank you very much for your help.

I think so, if you are using generic vesa drivers. I believe if you
need ati/nvidia binary driver you still need to define it in xorg. But
you can leave out all of the modes etc. You just need to define a
screen and a graphics card/driver. Usually the rest will happen
automatically. :)

I'm using 9600 ATI graphic card with fglrx driver, and am going to try
the free radeon driver.

Thank you Paul,

[gentoo-user] ATI radeon problems

2009-04-08 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi all,

I have two major problems with my 9600 ATI (RV350) graphic card

- With the free radeon driver (x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-6.12.1-r1) :
After few minutes, while emerging or working with some software (Gimp),
%CPU increases and then X completely freezes. Then reset... :-(

- The proprietary ATI driver (x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.582) can't
compile with gentoo-sources-2.6.28-r4.
It asks me to set CONFIG_PCI_MSI=y in the kernel config.
But there is no CONFIG_PCI_MSI line in the .config !!!

Any idea that would help me ?
Thank you very much,

After few minutes, while emerging or working with some software (Gimp),
%CPU increases and then X completely freezes. Then reset... :-(

- The proprietary ATI driver (x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.582) can't
compile with gentoo-sources-2.6.28-r4.
It asks me to set CONFIG_PCI_MSI=y in the kernel config.
But there is no CONFIG_PCI_MSI line in the .config !!!

Is CONFIG_PCI=y present?

If set to =n the all PCI things are not configured...

CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_MSI=y should also be there, for this an internal
check if your platform has the possibility to use MSI.

Any idea that would help me ?

Maybe a make menuconfig could be a little more informative for you.

Thank you very much,

#CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_MSI is not set, and i don't see the line in make

I suppose i have to select another option to make it appear, but i

make menuconfig
hit '/' button to search
serach for MSI
it will show you what you need to know.

Ok, i forgot that very useful "/" button !
I hit it and found i hadn't selected Local APIC Support on
uniprocessors.
Now :
CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_MSI=y
CONFIG_PCI_MSI=y

Next step, i try to emerge ati-drivers...
Thanks a lot for your help !

I would have preferred using free radeon driver, but it doesn't work

Hi,

I encountered the same problem.
I unmerged sys-libs/ss, sys-libs/com_err and sys-fs/e2fsprogs.
Of course everything was broken and wget did not work anymore...
So i downloaded sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.40.9.tar.gz with Firefox browser to
/usr/portage/distfile and put >sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.40.9 in package.mask.
Then I could emerge sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.40.9.
Now sys-libs/ss-1.40.9, sys-libs/com_err-1.40.9 and
sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.40.9 are installed and everything works fine.

get the backup back on my laptop? I did not found an appropriate

And second what do I have backup from my present windows (boot.ini ,...)
I am really unsure how I get the bootloader back to work ;)

If someone has experience with backup and restore of a dual boot

[gentoo-user] udevd boot messages

2012-05-21 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi everybody,

I updated udev from 171-r5 to 171-r6 and now i get several udevd boot
message as :
udevd[1389]: can not find '/lib/udev/rules.d/90-network.rules': No such
file or directory
udevd[1389]: can not find '/lib/udev/rules.d/95-keymap.rules': No such
file or directory
..
and so on.

/lib is a symlink pointing to /lib64.
/lib64/udev/rules.d is ok with all the rules that udevd does not find at
boot.
Is it because /boot, / and /usr are on separate partitions ?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,

I re-emerged udev, but i still got error messages.
So i deleted (backup) my old /lib64/udev/rules.d directory and
re-emerged udev.
Then no more messages with the new rules.d directory.
Thank you for your reply.

[gentoo-user] Openshot segfault with new cairo

2011-02-14 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi all,

When i upgrade to cairo-1.10.2-r1, the video editor Openshot compiles,
but crashes with segfault error.
New cairo has qt4 useflag ; so, i have to set -qt4 useflag to cairo to
get Openshot working again.
May i get some trouble by setting this useflag to cairo ?

Thanks you,

[gentoo-user] problem libxml2 icu flag, chromium and wine

2011-02-19 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi all,

Recent Chromium upgrade needs icu flag for libxml2, but Wine doesn't
compile with that flag set.
So i compiled libxml2 with icu flag, and compiled Chromium.
then i re-compiled libxml2 without icu flag, then compiled Wine.
Well, i really don't like that.
Anything else to do ?

Thank you for your advice,

Hi everybody,

I encounter the same problem with x86 system (Everything is ok on my
second x86_64 PC).
I didn't change anything in kernel configuration and recently,
/dev/cdrom and /dev/sr0 disappeared.
So, i can't mount any cdrom, but surprisingly, i can burn or erase a RW
dvdrom with Brasero...
dmesg does not show any error message before or after inserting cdrom or
dvdrom.

# dmesg | grep cdrom
#cdrom: Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20

# dmesg | grep sr0
#

I don't use hal (-hal in make.conf)

My kernel configuration :

# SCSI device support

CONFIG_SCSI_DMA=y
CONFIG_SCSI_TGT=y

Hi Mike,

I saw that CONFIG_IDE (DEPRECATED) was set to yes ; so the disk names
were hda1, hda2, hdb, hdc instead of sda1, etc...
I set CONFIG_IDE to no and use CONFIG_ATA.
Now sda1, sda2 and ...sr0 are back and everything works fine !

[gentoo-user] Problem with python-updater ?

2011-03-25 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi all,

I upgraded python2.6 to python2.7,
then i run eselect python set python2.7,
then python-updater.

Here is the python-updater output :

* Starting Python Updater...
 * Main active version of Python: 2.7
 * Active version of Python 2: 2.7
 * Active version of Python 3: 3.1
 *   Adding to list: app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs:0
 *   Adding to list: app-emulation/virtualbox-bin:0
 *   Adding to list: app-office/libreoffice-bin:0
 *   Adding to list: dev-libs/boost:1.42
 * check: manual [Added to list manually, see CHECKS in manpage for
more information.]
 *   Adding to list: sys-libs/tdb:0
 *   Adding to list: x11-libs/vte:0
 * check: manual [Added to list manually, see CHECKS in manpage for
more information.]
 * emerge -Dv1 --keep-going app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs:0
app-emulation/virtualbox-bin:0 app-office/libreoffice-bin:0
dev-libs/boost:1.42 sys-libs/tdb:0 x11-libs/vte:0
...
Ok, everything emerge fine.

If i run python-updater again, then i get exactly the same output as
before (emerging emul-linux-x86-baselibs:0, BOOST:1.42, etc...)

What's wrong ??

Thanks

Hi everybody,

Ok Neil, i read the python-updater manpage...
So to skip compilation, and compilation... and so on, i had to run :
#python-updater -dmanual -dpylibdir -dPYTHON_ABIS -dshared_linking
-dstatic_linking
* Starting Python Updater...
 * Main active version of Python: 2.7
 * Active version of Python 2: 2.7
 * Active version of Python 3: 3.1
 * No packages need to be reinstalled.

[gentoo-user] Strange problem while uploading

2010-10-31 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi all,

I use the online french file storage Securibox (similar to Adrive or
others) to backup some data.
https://www.securibox.fr/
Everything worked before upgrading gentoo by emerge -auvDN world.
Now, i can open my personal space, delete files, but i can't upload
files anymore.
Here are two jpg files :
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8818367/upload1.jpg
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8818367/upload2.jpg
Securibox seems to uses javascript commands to open window.
Uploading window open, but nothing happens by clicking the button.
I backed up Gentoo (with fsarchiver) and restored previous version in
order to find the responsible package.
But no success.
I can only say that all qt-* packages, adobe-flash, perl* packages are
cleared.
Have you any idea ?
Thank you for your help.

Cheers,

[gentoo-user] X crashing

2010-11-17 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi all,

I use an astronomical open source imaging software (http://www.audela.org/)
which works fine except when launching a tcl photometry script (Calaphot).
X crashes with the error message :

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
  Major opcode of failed request: 148 (RENDER)
  Minor opcode of failed request: 4 (RenderCreatePicture)
  Serial number of failed request: 51329
  Current serial number in output stream: 51338

I get the same crash on two PCs with Gentoo.
I use an ATI graphic card
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 [Mobility
Radeon 9600 M10]
and the open source radeon driver.
tcl package is : dev-lang/tcl-8.5.8-r1

I really don't know where to go...
Have you an idea ?
Thank you for your help,

Cheers,

You may have found a bug in the open source driver. Is there a binary
driver available from ATI that you can try?

Binary ati drivers don't work with this old graphic card (RV350 Radon
9600), but i can try again for see..

[gentoo-user] 32 or 64 bits, CFLAGS and kernel settings ?

2010-12-27 Thread Jacques Montier
Hi all,

I am waiting for a new PC...
motherboard Asus P6X58D-E
Intel Core i7 950
4Go DDR
Gforce GT240

I use Gentoo for nearly 8 years, and of course, it will be Gentoo on
that new pc.
Besides desktop working, i am going to study and produce some image and
video synthesis.
I have some questions :
32 bits or 64 bits ? advantages and inconvenients ?
What CFLAGS have i to choose and what about kernel settings (Processor
type and features) ?

Thank you very much for your advices,
