Not being picky but just wanted to let you know that the flags specified
to DEBUG_FLAGS that you have listed above are perfectly fine but for
those without the knowledge of how this is done, the last flag specified
is usually the flag that wins.

So for DEBUG_FLAGS="-g3 -ggdb -O0" the -ggdb flag would be the debugging
type of ELF binary produced making the '-g3' flag just redundant.

Now in case you wanted the effect of '-g3' and '-ggdb' you can specify
'-ggdb3' instead.

As for the compile that was listed above it seems as if the flags were
reorganized in some way leading to '-g3' ultimately taking the cake.

Irregardless you will still end up with a binary that can be debugged by
gdb(1)/kgdb(1) either way.

Attached is a script that I use after buildworld installworld to rebuild
libthr and libc that is helpful for debugging that you may or may not
find useful.

Re: HEADS UP: FreeBSD 6.4 and 8.0 EoLs coming soon

2010-09-05 Thread Robert Watson

On Wed, 1 Sep 2010, Hans Petter Selasky wrote:

- Or whatever other method to get ISDN back in kernel ?

It seems code exists :-)

http://old.nabble.com/ISDN4BSD-on-8-current-td23919925.html
ISDN4BSD package has been updated to compile on FreeBSD
8-current

http://www.selasky.org/hans_petter/isdn4bsd/

Apparently needs massaging into main FreeBSD tree.

I agree that my I4B code should be re-written somewhat before committed.
Possibly we should update the API's present too, to support IP-telephony
aswell.

Just to clarify things a little for those following it: the original I4B code
was removed for entirely practical reasons: it couldn't run without the Giant
lock, and support for the Giant lock over the network stack was removed. I'm
happy to see ISDN support reintroduced as long as it will see ongoing
maintenance/etc.

I'm not familiar with Hans's most recent code, but the integration of his USB
stack and his recent receipt of a FreeBSD commit bit suggest a promising
future. I would suggest trying to rope in a reveiwer and collaborator
(perhaps someone like Bjoern Zeeb?) to work through it before considering a
merge, however. This is especially important with projects like VIMAGE,
network stack parallelism projects, etc, on-going to make sure that the new
ISDN code will be able to support these new features rather than become a
potential obstacle (as the old code did for the MPSAFEty work).

etc. etc...

Seems pretty identical...

But gstat seems different:

dT: 1.008s w: 1.000s
 L(q) ops/sr/s kBps ms/rw/s kBps ms/w %busy Name
...
3 0 0 00.0 0 00.00.0 da0
3 0 0 00.0 0 00.00.0 da1
3 0 0 00.0 0 00.00.0 da2
   35 0 0 00.0 0 00.00.0 da3
3 0 0 00.0 0 00.00.0 da4
2 0 0 00.0 0 00.00.0 da5
3 0 0 00.0 0 00.00.0 da6
   35 0 0 00.0 0 00.00.0 da7

Note the huge wait queues...

I've tried reading from the disks (dd), camcontrol inquiry'ing them, but
all of these methods fail:
%dd if=/dev/da3 of=/

Mike-

Thanks for your help. Your email encouraged me to keep digging and I
eventually figured out the problem.

For some reason (I'm not sure why/when/how) I had managed to get
libusb installed from ports and apcupsd (and other tools) was linked
against that version of libusb. I figured this out with ldd. After
removing that port (on which nothing else I had installed depended)
with pkg_delete and a rebuild from the apcupsd port, everything is
working fine again.

I've migrated this machine from FreeBSD 7.0-BETA1 forward using source
upgrades and I'd guess that at some point along the way something
required the libusb from ports, but that dependency appears to be gone
now.

Just thought I'd shared this back with the mailing lists in case
anybody else runs into a similar issue.

Thanks again!

Ben

It's not Labor day in the U.S. yet!... ;) BACK TO WORK!

Some more hardware problems with the local cvsup mirror. For now, I
have pointed it elsewhere until we figure out the source of the
hardware issue. Perhaps bad MB or bad NIC. We swapped out the NIC
for now and will monitor over the next few days before pointing it back.
