5.3 prob reading 4.11 hdd

2005-01-16 Thread Warren
I recently took my primary hdd running FreeBSD 4.11-STABLE out of my main
machine leaving my 2ndry hdd in the machine and installing FreeBSD5.3-STABLE
on it to use as the new primary. When everything was done and i plugged in
the 2nd hdd that priginally had 4.11-STABLE on it, i was unable to find the
individual partitions/slices on there to mount so i could access all the old
data i had. I have a basic understanding of FreeBSD but am still not quite
proficent when it comes to this sort of thing. Below is the dislabel output
of the drive im wanting to get all the data from..

# /dev/ad1s1c:
8 partitions:
#size offsetfstype [fsize bsize bps/cpg]
  c: 234436482 63unused0 0 # "raw" part, don't
edit
  e: 234436482 634.2BSD 2048 1638489
partition c: partition extends past end of unit
disklabel: partition c doesn't start at 0!
disklabel: An incorrect partition c may cause problems for standard system
utilities
partition e: partition extends past end of unit
==

Any help in recovering the copius amounts of data would be greatly
appreciated.

I changed the shell type using: chsh -s /bin/csh
re-logged in as it prompts and still no go with anything .. so i just simply
installed putty and used it to connect to each machine.

/usr/obj/usr/src/usr.bin/make/make and all the other commands that dont work
exist like the make command, but when something like a make install or
portupgrade etc is issued it fails ... so i've obviously stuffed the main
commands.

Most other things work its mainly the make, whereis, vi, clear, fetch, ftp and
other things that rely on make

If i re-do the base system will that then cause the various ports i have
running to need re-configuring.. e.g. dhcp, named httpd etc

This sort of thing is really beyong my present knowledge lvl of BSD at
present, so exscuse the dumb questions.

The main problem is that if i try to use make without using /usr/bin/make it

NAT rules in ppp

This is the rule i presently have in my ppp.conf file

nat port tcp 10.100.6.10:6881-6999 6881-6999

so those ports are forwaded across my entire local subnet rather then a
specific local IP. Can this be done or am i limited to specific machine

In all the time of asking for various help and providing details, the fact of
if the machine has been upgraded has never been relevant and was still not
relevant in the end. The fact was the discussion was about why i was
bothering with XFree86 on a 5.x when xorg is def which had completly no
bearing on the inital problem. But i ended up getting the help i needed.

Yes i do agree that the intial email lacked enough information on what version
of BSD i was using and did send that info through once reminded of that fact.

But i honestly didnt see the point in everyone hashing out why i was using
XFree86 over Xorg amongst other things, which ended up in a heated long
discussion. I personally cant see the big deal about what X server someone
uses, that was and is my only point.

But i do thank the person who did provide me with the solution of changing
imake. Being as i did that then re-did a CVSUP i couldnt say for sure if
that was the main reason why it was fixed, but none the less it is fixed now.

Azureus Update Problem

2005-06-30 Thread Warren
im running FreeBSD 5.4-STABLE CVSUPD and everything updated as of about 3 hrs
ago.

Each time i try and update Azureus from 2.2.0.2 to 2.3.0.4 it fails and on
restart sais to check the update.log which dosent exist. I have tried
re-installing Azureus from scratch running it as root and even as far as
giving everything possible assoicated with it to chmod +777 and still it
refuses to update and i have no idea why or if there is another way of
updating it.

Any information would be appreciated.

ok, this worked an updated the Azureus version, but now not one of my torrents
is downloading, even though there all showing green and testing the ports
from 6881-6889 all work in the NAT/Firewall test and were all downloading
before upgrading. What is new/changed that may perhaps be stopping the
torrents from d/l ?

Time not wanting to change

2005-07-11 Thread Warren
im running FreeBSD5.4-STABLE

For some damn reason my Clock in KDE reads the correct time but yet my system
base time when doing a uname -a outputs to UTC time and not AEST. i have run
rdate and other programs and not one of them manages to fix the time, i even
checked BIOS, i even (gasp) stuck a windows hdd in this machine and it ran
the correct time.

So my question is .. why wont it change the time and what is there that i can
use to force it to use the correct time.

Up untill i installed the flash plugin my broswer was running completly
stable, it has only since the installation of flash become unstable, which
unf seems to be the case since i been trying to use flash since i ran FreeBSD
4.9-STABLE and as yet not been able to get a plugin that dosent cause my

I had the exact same issue with Azureus. The problem is that jdk1.4 has a

All i want is to have it send all mails to the root user on the local box, if

On the machine i am running squid, it runs the program fine, but as soon as
anything goes to use the proxy server the program dies.

I ended up finding it, but where would i find a list of various mirror sites
and where would i add them into the list of mirrors to check as i often come
across the problem of pkgs not found.

2005-05-16 Thread Warren
Up untill 1 week ago i have been able to compile my kernel perfectly fine.
However after running a CVSUP i am no longer able to compile my kernel and i
have not changed anything it since i did it quite a few mnths ago. I do not
have sound loaded in my kernel anywhere but rather in a different spot where
it seems to be loading and working perfectly fine. Any assistance would be
greatful.

I am running FreeBSD 5.4-STABLE & my kernel file is attached.
