Diablo JDK & Undefined symbol "gethostbyname_r"

Hello,
my freebsd version is 6.1-RELEASE, I have installed diablo jdk1.6 and 
when I run maven, I got the following error:
Downloading: 
http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/org/apache/maven/plugins/maven-clean-plugin/2.2/maven-clean-plugin-2.2.pom
/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/jre/lib/i386/libnet.so: 
Undefined symbol "gethostbyname_r"


What may be the cause of this?

Upgrading from 6.1 to 7.3

Hello,
have anybody done something like this? Is it reasonable or is it better 
to make a "clean install"?
