Puppet port - Dashboard guide or config reference

2012-05-02 Thread Kaya Saman
Hi,

I've managed to get Puppet up and running on FreeBSD 8.2 which I built
from ports however, I am having difficulty in finding
documentation on how to get the Dashboard up and running.

I am totally new to Puppet though not to FreeBSD, so I've managed to
hack through quite a bit already and got basic functionality - my test
client syncs up! woohoo :-)

Can anyone give me a hand or a hint as to where a good Doc on the web
gui is:? Unfortunately the puppetlabs site isn't much help in that
respect (unless I missed it?).

Hello Kaya,

What a coincidence - I recently installed Puppet Dashboard on a
FreeBSD machine here as part of a Puppet deployment, and I have an
item on my list to add it to the ports tree in the near future. I
used the following link to help me get it running:
http://docs.puppetlabs.com/dashboard/manual/1.2/index.html

It was reasonably difficult for a non-Ruby-fluent person like me to
get the dashboard running, though. I had a lot of problems with the
Ruby bits packaged with the dashboard ("vendors" directory)
conflicting with ports I already had installed, and I eventually
manually installed some specific versions of required gems. I hope
there's a way to use the ports tree to install the correct
dependencies, and I'll figure that out as I get into the port development.

If you want to exchange tips, ideas, roadblocks, etc. for implementing
Puppet scripts on FreeBSD, I would be happy to do that. We already
ran into one tricky problem:

- - Spamassassin creates a virtual package when it updates its rules.
Puppet can't deal with that because the package has no origin. We
eventually figured out that we need to invoke the sa-compile script
like so to prevent the package creation: env DISABLE_BSDPAN=1 sa-compile

Hope that helps,
Greg

Looks like I need to revert liveMedia update (. I only checked it with
vlc 2.0.1 and completely missed vlc 1.x. The second option - we can
temporary disable liveMedia dependency in vlc port until vlc 2.0.1 will
be imported. There is also some ghost probability that vlc 1.x may be
fixed to compile with this liveMedia version..
Joseph, what do you think? I got a patch for multimedia/vlc, that
updates it to 2.0.1, but it's still needs some polishing and more
important it needs some testing (mainly streaming stuff, because I only
use it as a desktop video player). I using it about a month without any
problems on -current amd64 with liveMedia 2012.04.04. I will be able to
put it somewhere later this day.

Thanks a lot Greg,

I have actually just found the link for myself!

I would be very happy to share notes with you with regards to Puppet
or anything else for that matter as I'm trying to get my company to go
FreeBSD in favor of CentOS Linux.

Soon when I am better setup I hope to even mirror FreeBSD at home as I
have quite a substantial server infrastructure resting in my living
room (mostly FreeBSD based). Also with the addition of 1Gbps fiber
internet in 3 years for London/UK things should be fenominal.

Hi Dmitry,

can you try loading the sem module? Also have a look at pkg-message
(Firefox and HTML5). Perhaps firefox 12 needs the module for other
things now?!

Zimbra mail exchange port for FreeBSD

is anyone working on a FreeBSD port of Zimbra?

I am just wondering as I am more in favor of using FreeBSD then Linux

I know a few years ago some work was being done on this subject but it

Never tried Atmail

Just checked it out though and looks cool, even Thunderbird
integration which is good.

Will try it out and see, though would need to work out a migration
plan between Zimbra to it.

As long as it's FREE it should be ok :-)

Thanks for the suggestion will just need to work out if can integrate it.

I thought I'm aware of this, and I do have semaphores in my kernel:

root@woozle:/usr/ports# config -x /boot/kernel/kernel | grep -i sem
options SYSVSEM

or it this other semaphores?

Is there a reason why mysql 5.6 hasn’t been added to the ports?

Searching the ports archive doesn’t give any hints as to why.

Yes, however it is a reference and there is nothing stopping the port
from being upgraded to be supported. Furthermore, there is nothing stopping
anyone from contacting or joining the zimbra thread to update it or
collaborate with others.

I used Zimbra for a long time, and on FreeBSD, when they had distributed
packages for it. Unfortunately, they aren't doing it now, but it was done.

temporary disable liveMedia dependency in vlc port until vlc 2.0.1 will

fixed to compile with this liveMedia version..

Nevermind. I lost the patch (probably it was rewritten with portsnap
extract, still got the 2.0.1 binary), so I let you know when it will be
redone. As for now, revert liveMedia update to fix build. Apologies.

Not sure what is happening. like you said perhaps it's just worth

Will be good to compare both this and Zimbra and then see if @mail is
easier to migrate/update as Zimbra is a bit tricky - especially between
32bit to 64bit.

I was annoyed by this issue and did some research. Actually, at least
there are two problems, the first one is Clang causes ICE with
hwpfilter/source/hbox.cxx. This is because of a regression, which is
only fixed recently:

http://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=12226
http://llvm.org/viewvc/llvm-project?view=rev&revision=154756

The second problem is some files (e.g.,
editeng/source/editeng/editdbg.cxx,
extensions/source/plugin/base/xplugin.cxx, etc.) cause this error:

error: invalid suffix on literal; C++11 requires a space between
literal and identifier [-Wreserved-user-defined-literal]

This is because they use SAL_PRI macros without a space in printf
formats, e.g.,

fprintf( fp, "\nControl: %"SAL_PRIxUINT32, pEE->GetControlWord() );

Fortunately, both issues can be simply worked around by not using
C++11 standard, i.e.,

https://redports.org/changeset?reponame=&new=3489%40jkim%2Feditors%2Flibreoffice%2FMakefile&old=3478%40jkim%2Feditors%2Flibreoffice%2FMakefile

Thanks so much for the help btw Michael :-)

Unfortunately the upgrade didn't work either I didn't have PEAR
previously - I have installed now but still no luck in getting it to work.

However, in the meantime I have been contacted by the package maintainer
who is looking at the issue and the port upgrade.

Regards,

Kaya

ksh93 build failure

2012-05-02 Thread Derek Tattersall
On a 10.0 Current system, cvsupped today, ksh93 fails to build. As best
I can determine, the failure is due to a problem of conflicting
includes.

In file included from
/home/ports/usr/ports/shells/ksh93/work/arch/freebsd.amd64/include/ast/ast_wchar.h:113,

Has anyone else run into this problem, and if so, what did you do about
it. ksh93 builds without error on 9.0 Stable.

Do you perhaps have devel/sfio installed on that machine ? If so can you
deinstall and retry the build.
