FreeBSD ports which are currently marked broken
As part of an ongoing effort to reduce the number of problems in the FreeBSD ports system, we periodically notify users of ports that are marked as "broken" in their Makefiles. In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 7.x/8.x/9.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: accessibility/yasr broken because: fails to build with new utmpx build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=accessibility&portname=yasr portname: audio/gdam broken because: does not build build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=gdam portname: audio/gstreamer-plugins-flite broken because: Doesn't work due to link problem in audio/flite build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=gstreamer-plugins-flite portname: audio/hydrogen broken because: does not install build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=hydrogen portname: audio/osd-lyrics broken because: does not compile on FreeBSD 9.X build errors: http://pointyhat.FreeBSD.org/errorlogs/powerpc-errorlogs/e.8.20120321091023/osdlyrics-0.4.1_1.log (_Apr_16_19:10:06_UTC_2012) overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=osd-lyrics portname: audio/rubyripper broken because: does not package build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=rubyripper portname: audio/teamspeak_client broken because: does not build build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=teamspeak_client portname: audio/wsoundprefs broken because: does not compile build errors: http://pointyhat.FreeBSD.org/errorlogs/powerpc-errorlogs/e.9.20120227104242/wsoundprefs-1.1.1_9.log (_Mar_19_17:11:04_UTC_2012) overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=wsoundprefs portname: benchmarks/dbs broken because: does not compile on FreeBSD 9.X build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=benchmarks&portname=dbs portname: benchmarks/polygraph broken because: does not build build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=benchmarks&portname=polygraph portname: benchmarks/polygraph31 broken because: does not build build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=benchmarks&portname=polygraph31 portname: cad/salome-gui broken because: does not compile build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=cad&portname=salome-gui portname: chinese/big5con broken because: fails to build with new utmpx build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=chinese&portname=big5con portname: chinese/cxterm broken because: fails to build with new utmpx build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=chinese&portname=cxterm portname: chinese/hztty broken because: fails to build with new utmpx build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=chinese&portname=hztty

FreeBSD unmaintained ports which are currently scheduled for deletion
As part of an ongoing effort to reduce the number of problems in the FreeBSD ports system, we periodically schedule removal of ports that have been judged to have outlived their usefulness. Often, this is due to a better alternative having become available and/or the cessation of development on the existing port. In some cases, ports are marked for removal because they fail to build and install correctly from their sources, or otherwise fail in operation. The ports, and the reason and date that they have been scheduled for removal, are listed below. If no one has stepped forward before that time to propose a way to fix the problems (such as via a PR), the ports will be deleted. portname: archivers/bsdar description:BSD-licensed replacement of the ar utility maintainer: po...@freebsd.org status: IGNORE deprecated because: part of the base system expiration date:2013-02-28 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=archivers&portname=bsdar portname: audio/linux-alsa-lib description:The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture libraries maintainer: po...@freebsd.org deprecated because: expiration date:2013-02-28 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=linux-alsa-lib portname: audio/linux-arts description:Audio system for the KDE integrated X11 desktop (Linux version) maintainer: po...@freebsd.org deprecated because: expiration date:2013-02-28 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=linux-arts portname: audio/linux-freealut description:A free implementation of OpenAL's ALUT standard (Linux version) maintainer: po...@freebsd.org deprecated because: expiration date:2013-02-28 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=linux-freealut portname: audio/linux-libmad description:Libmad library (part of MAD project) maintainer: po...@freebsd.org deprecated because: expiration date:2013-02-28 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=linux-libmad portname: audio/linux-libogg description:Ogg bitstream library (Linux version) maintainer: po...@freebsd.org deprecated because: expiration date:2013-02-28 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=linux-libogg portname: audio/linux-libvorbis description:Audio compression codec library (Linux version) maintainer: po...@freebsd.org deprecated because: expiration date:2013-02-28 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=linux-libvorbis portname: audio/linux-openal description:A 3D positional spatialized sound library (Linux version) maintainer: po...@freebsd.org deprecated because: expiration date:2013-02-28 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=linux-openal portname: databases/pecl-sqlite description:PECL classes to access sqlite databases in PHP 4 maintainer: po...@freebsd.org deprecated because: php4 is EOLed expiration date:2012-05-10 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=databases&portname=pecl-sqlite portname: databases/py-MySQLdb-devel description:Access a MySQL database through Python maintainer: po...@freebsd.org deprecated because: use databases/py-MySQLdb instead expiration date:2012-05-01 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=databases&portname=py-MySQLdb-devel portname: databases/sqlite34 description:An SQL database engine in a C library maintainer: po...@freebsd.org deprecated because: No more supported, please use databases/sqlite3 instead expiration date:2012-05-16 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=databases&portname=sqlite34 portname: deskutils/sciplore-mindmapping description:Mind Mapping tool with Reference and PDF Management maintainer: po...@freebsd.org status: BROKEN deprecated because: Discontinued, use deskutils/docear instead expiration date:2012-05-31 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=deskutils&portname=sciplore-mindmapping portname: devel/libg

USE_PYTHON usage shadows dependency requirements and creates conflicts
Hi, I stumbled upon an interesting issue today, which might have been discussed at length earlier, but I was unable to find any reference so far. Using USE_PYTHON=x.y in a port A, which has a dependency on another port B, which also defines USE_PYTHON=q.w will cause a IGNORE to be raised from bsd.python.mk, since _PYTHON_VERSION_NONSUPPORTED gets set to whatever the USE_PYTHON value from port A was. Test case: Create 2 directories, /usr/ports/devel/fake1 and /usr/ports/devel/fake2 Add the Makefiles (diffs below) to both: diff -Nur /nonexistent/Makefile fake1/Makefile --- /nonexistent/Makefile 1970-01-01 01:00:00.0 +0100 +++ fake1/Makefile 2012-04-21 11:55:05.0 +0200 @@ -0,0 +1,9 @@ +PORTNAME= fake1 +PORTVERSION= 1 +CATEGORIES=devel + +LIB_DEPENDS= fake2.0:${PORTSDIR}/devel/fake2 + +USE_PYTHON=3.2 + +.include diff -Nur /nonexistent/Makefile fake2/Makefile --- /nonexistent/Makefile 1970-01-01 01:00:00.0 +0100 +++ fake2/Makefile 2012-04-21 11:55:13.0 +0200 @@ -0,0 +1,6 @@ +PORTNAME= fake2 +PORTVERSION= 1 + +USE_PYTHON=2.5-3.1 + +.include Execute make depends in /usr/ports/devel/fake1. /usr/ports/devel/fake1 # make depends ===> fake1-1 depends on shared library: fake2.0 - not found ===>Verifying install for fake2.0 in /usr/ports/devel/fake2 ===> fake2-1 needs Python 3.1 at most. Hi! I have finally committed the vdr 1.7.27 update, to upgrade make sure your portstree is up to date and then do: # portmaster vdr-plugins The multimedia/vdr port has gained a new knob, DVBPATCH, that adds a patch to fix DVB audio for some countries (like France), I didn't add the patch unconditionally because there were reports it breaks ATSC reception. The changes since 1.7.22 can be seen (after the installation) in: /usr/local/share/doc/vdr/HISTORY - or on the web in the vdr announce postings in the vdr mailinglist archives here: http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.linux.vdr And here is the commit message: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/cvs-ports/2012-April/240480.html Quote: - Update multimedia/vdr and multimedia/vdr-plugins to 1.7.27 . - Update multimedia/vdr-plugin-epgsearch to 1.0.1s20120322 git snapshot. - Update multimedia/vdr-plugin-femon to 1.7.15 . - Update multimedia/vdr-plugin-iptv to 0.5.0 . - Update multimedia/vdr-plugin-osdteletext to 0.9.2 . - Update multimedia/vdr-plugin-streamdev to 0.5.1p20120311 git snapthot. - Update multimedia/vdr-plugin-xineliboutput to 1.0.90s2029.1002 cvs snapshot. - Bump PORTREVISION for all other plugins and add vdr 1.7.27 compatibility/bugfix patches where necessary Enjoy, :) Juergen ___ freebsd-ports@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ports To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-ports-unsubscr...@freebsd.org"

Congratulations, guys! I've been waiting for this for a while and I'm sure many will join me in thanking all of those that have put so much effort into making it happen! Embarrassingly, I just sent the list a message about the need to run xorg-devel for many things (like Intel KMS) and how it was not in ports. I hit "Send" and this message showed up. Any idea about when/if Intel KMS might make it out of test mode? (I know, I should let you enjoy getting this done before asking for more.) -- R.
