FreeBSD unmaintained ports which are currently marked broken

2012-01-07 Thread linimon
As part of an ongoing effort to reduce the number of problems in
the FreeBSD ports system, we periodically notify users of ports
that are marked as "broken" in their Makefiles. In many cases
these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD
build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions
of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions.
The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386
architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more
of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as
size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth.

In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different
errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the
build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to
help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide.

One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen
on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this
algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at
this kind of thing.)

The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem
exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the
latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we
mean 'combination of 7.x/8.x/9.x/-current with target architecture'.)

(Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not
the error still applies to the latest version. The program
that generates this report is not yet able to determine this
automatically.)

FreeBSD unmaintained ports which are currently scheduled for deletion

2012-01-07 Thread linimon
As part of an ongoing effort to reduce the number of problems in
the FreeBSD ports system, we periodically schedule removal of ports
that have been judged to have outlived their usefulness. Often,
this is due to a better alternative having become available and/or
the cessation of development on the existing port. In some cases,
ports are marked for removal because they fail to build and install
correctly from their sources, or otherwise fail in operation.

The ports, and the reason and date that they have been scheduled

MD5 checksums should always match - it's the same algorithm. Not sure

FYI, ports also has sysutils/lxsplit.
FreeBSD base has split(1) and csplit(1).

Just in case anyone thinks this is a new idea.

Ummm... split(1), csplit(1) etc operate on individual files, turning
them into many smaller files.

fpart and gaffitter operate on a collection of files, sorting them into
different bins by various criteria. Quite a different concept.

Cheers,

Matthew

If I am not totally wrong here, FreeBSD has changed its ports checksums
towards SHA256 for a while now. See for example

The ports tree is needed to access bsd.*.mk and maybe some
dependencies. The directory where you test the makefile does not need
to be in the ports tree, but it can be in the ports tree.

It is copied completely. But you can delete whatever you want in
a post-extract target:

post-extract:
@${RM} ${WRKSRC}/subdir/file1 ${WRKSRC}/subdir/file2
---snip---

You should add all the files which get installed into the plist.

"make extract" will extract it. If you type make, "make extract" will
be executed automatically if needed.

That's wrong. bsd.port.mk is needed and includes bsd.linux-rpm.mk if
needed automatically.

If they are not available from the default fedora 10 master site (and
most likely this will be the case), just MASTER_SITES to whatever site
contains the file. If it is only your site... maybe bad luck for your
bandwith. If they are available somewhere else, use a sensible default.

They aren't anymore, we already have them on FreeBSD servers
("CRITICAL" is a shortcut for a set of the FreeBSD servers).

The "make makesum" will generate the FreeBSD checksum, it is
ok/recommended to create the FreeBSD checksums this way. The advise you
got was to check if there is a checksum or cryptographic signature for
packages available, and to check them by hand (to verify that what you
got is really what it is supposed to be) before submitting a port.

If the checksums are generated the same way on FreeBSD as for the
upstream distfile, well, in this case the verification by hand is
simple, you just compare if the checksums are the same. If it is a
different checksum, you need to find a way to calculate the same
checksum on FreeBSD (bu you don't include it in the port), and then you
compare the checksums. That's all.

Bye,
Alexander.

problem with games/pokerth upgrade

2012-01-07 Thread Guido Falsi

Hello,

I'm seeking counsel on the upgrade of games/pokerth to latest version.

The new version depends on textproc/tinyxml, but requires it to be
compiled with TIXML_USE_STL defined, wich, at present, is not the default.

I tested adding such an option to the tinyxml port making it the default
for testing purposes. While this fixes the problem with pokerth, it
breaks at least another port (ftp/filezilla).

At this point I'm a little taken back. I don't really know how to solve
this dilemma.

I can't modify tinyxml port, since it's needed as is, nor create a slave
port with this option: it would have to conflict with the original
tinyxml, and leave people having to choose which version of the library
to keep, precluding them at least one of the two mentioned programs.

Anyone has a suggestion on how to solve this? What do the ports
collection policies really allow me to do?

Thanks in advance for any help.

As a side note I don't like projects taking this kind of freedom with
their requirements, as I often see happening, but, being the maintainer
of this port, I just get the upstream code as is...

Really? That's not how I read the GPL, nor its interpretation:

new port license question:

2012-01-07 Thread Michael Scheidell

I am working on committing a new port;

ports/163698: new port graphics/py-stl (deprecates graphics/stl2pov)

submitted by the author of py-stl.

inside his man page, he has this:

The latest version of this program is available at:
.Lk http://rsmith.home.xs4all.nl/software/
.Sh LICENSE
To the extent possible under law, Roland Smith has waived all copyright and
related or neighboring rights to this manual. This work is published
from the

Netherlands. See
.Lk http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/

Do I need to add a 'LICENSE= BSD' in the makefile, or just leave it?

How "fails to extract properly"? I tried in my tinderbox but
I couldn't reproduce. It just built successfully.

The Linux ports are a little bit special. They are binary ports and
the GPL requires offers of source along with distribution of
binaries. This is most easily accomplished, in our case, by
providing source code downloads alongside the binary downloads.

Is that better? In effect, it's the same thing, but longer.

No -- the license in this case is not one of the several BSD licenses.
It is in fact the CC0 License, which offers as its first step an attempt
to disclaim all copyright restrictions and claims. Because this is a
very problematic thing to try to do internationally (a lot of
jurisdictions have no legal concept of disclaiming copyright or
dedication to the public domain before copyright term expires on its
own), CC0 goes on to explicitly set forth license terms that come about
as close to public domain as humanly possible.

Saying "LICENSE=BSD" in the makefile would be inaccurate and confusing.
Indicate the actual license. If I had to guess, that would mean
"LICENSE=CC0", but rather than guess you should look into whether there's
already a precedent set for how to refer to the CC0 license in FreeBSD
port makefiles.
