[Bug 193653] New: Minor improvement to malo(4) man page

2014-09-15 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=193653

Bug ID: 193653
Summary: Minor improvement to malo(4) man page
   Product: Documentation
   Version: Latest
  Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: Needs Triage
  Severity: Affects Only Me
  Priority: ---
 Component: Documentation
  Assignee: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org
  Reporter: lis...@club.fr

Created attachment 147340
  --> https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=147340&action=edit
Diff to malo(4) man page for loading malofw kernel module

I suggest adding a line indicating that the firmware module must be loaded at
boot time through this line in /boot/loader.conf:

   malofw_load="YES"

This may seem evident to advanced users but can be difficult for beginners,
specially when the manual gives instructions to compile the malo driver or load
it into the kernel that are not needed: malo is included by default in GENERIC.

Suggested (not tested) diff attached.

Best regards,
Juan

1. My jail failed to start following the current instructions in these sections.
2. Current instructions do not incorporate ZFS datasets.
3. Current instructions do not incorporate /etc/jail.conf configuration.

Here is a Handbook Jail chapter rewrite that was rejected last year.
Maybe its now time to consider it again.

It was converted into a port named jail-primer

[Bug 193668] New: ports/print/acroread9 DEPRECATED, please adjust the documentation accordingly

2014-09-15 Thread bugzilla-noreply

Bug ID: 193668
Summary: ports/print/acroread9 DEPRECATED, please adjust the
documentation accordingly

Hi there,

>From the ports collection, it is not possible to install acroread9 as suggested
in Handbook:

https://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/desktop-viewers.html

The port's state is DEPRECATED.

Port:print/acroread9
Moved:
Date:2014-08-30
Reason:Deprecated: many security issues are reported and Adobe no longer
actively supports Adobe Reader for Unix

---

An alternative would be to recommend the ePDFView tool:

"ePDFView is a lightweight PDF document viewer that only uses the GTK+ and
Poppler libraries. It is currently under development, but already opens most
PDF files (even encrypted), save copies of documents, and has support for
printing using CUPS."

http://freecode.com/projects/epdfview

Already in ports collection: ports/graphics/epdfview/
