Downgrade ????

1999-08-22 Thread william woods

OK, this is kinda a crazy questions, but..what the hell

We have a production machiene that runs our internal mail server that I just
inherited sysadmin'ing (the other guy quit). The problem is that it is
currently running 4.0-current. I like current, I run it on my test system at
home, but I don't even want to run it on a production system.

How possible is it to cvsup stable ( I would blow away /uusr/src first) and
then do a make world and have a 3.2-stable system or should I just re-install
3.2-stable?

Understand, that this system has almost 200 user accounts for mail, so I would
like to keep as much of this intact as possible.

William

A couple questions regarding pcmcia cards....

2000-01-04 Thread William Woods

I have two pcmcia cards here I am wondering if the work under either -stable
or -current, they are:

3COM Megahertz 10/100 LAN PC Card model #3CCFE574BT

The other card is cardbus, so I doubt it but I will ask anyway

Adaptec SlimSCSI 1480A UltraSCSI

If either of these cards DO work, what would I need to get them going, I
already have the 3COM PCMCIA modem here working.

Thanks,

Man, this is getting depressing, all these goodies for Christmass and NADA
workie, well, I assume that -current they are working on the driver for the
574BT right and eventually it will work.

On a side note, how does your laptop like -current? I am going to run it on a
Thinkpad 770E

So, how do I tell if its pccard or cardbus? Got some way for me to test it?

Re: Upgrade from 3.4 to 4.0...

2000-02-22 Thread William Woods

Well, I guess what confused me is the order

I would assume that the last entry, being the newest, would have all the steps
listed that are currently needed. Maby its just me and, I am really not tyring
to cause a hassle, maby I am reading it wrong.

It seems to me that you need to piece together what you need be applying past
steps and seeing what has changed. I guess what I am looking for is a :

1) xx
2) xx
3) xx

type of thing.

Again, thats what confused me. Maby others can see it fine, but it lost me.

Thanks

Upgrade from 3.4 to 4.0...

2000-02-22 Thread William Woods

Hey,

I have been following the disscussions here for a while, just trying to get a
feel of what the transition from 3.4-stable 4.0-release will be like. I am
running -current on my alpha, but that was a fresh install. I am debating
trying -current on my laptop, but before we go there, I would like to inquire
as to what shape the transition is in. Are there steps posted somewhere that
work?

Also, what condition (I know, I am asking you to read the future) do you expect
the transition to be like at the end of the month when 4.0 -release comes out.

Lastly, if I were to be so brave as to go from 3.4 to 4.0 -current now, where
would I find the nessary instructions?

Re: sshd in current....no config files in /etc/ssh

2000-03-07 Thread William Woods

ThanksI used that "i" option and it worked...well, almost. I have the files
I need in /etc/ssh but when I start sshd I get this now.

error: Could not load host key: /etc/ssh/ssh_host_key: No such file or
directory

I had been doing things manually for a while now. I dod look at mergemaster and
used it for ssh and it worked well. I am planning on investigating it more
later on today.

I run that from a script that is called "complete"

cvsup -g -L 2 /usr/cvsup/standard
cd /usr/src
make clean
time make -DNOGAMES world

Thanks

Now that openssh is in the base system, I assume it will no longer be in the
ports. How do we update it, ie, when a updated version comes out. I would
rather not make world just to update that.

Top not working in -Current??

1999-02-05 Thread William Woods
To go along with my other message about the top problem,

When I try to run top in a current box, compiled a few moments ago I get:

top: cannot read *swapblist: kvm_read: Bad address
top: cannot read blmeta_t: kvm_read: Bad address
Floating point exception

And, in /var/log/messages I see:

Feb 5 20:06:08 freebsd /kernel: pid 96162 (kikbd), uid 1000: exited on signal
11
Feb 5 20:09:20 freebsd /kernel: pid 97284 (top), uid 1000: exited on signal 8

Any ideas?
