12.4-RELEASE has the same problem as 12.3-RELEASE, but doesn't hang as
13.1-RELEASE after I connect the drive to the problematic controller, just
fills the logs and console with these messages several times per second:

Hello,

I've compiled a kernel with lock debugging enabled and got a different panic
this time with a message "panic: thread 0xfe018d823020 still in
interruptible sleep?" generated by KASSERT in sleepq_check_signals in
sys/kern/subr_sleepqueue.c

Please find another kgdb output attached.

hier(7): remove text describing /usr/src layout

It poses a maintenance burden, since much of the information is
duplicated in the src tree's README.md file. Readers who are interested
enough in learning about the structure of the src tree can download it,
or browse the README online. Have hier(7) just point them there instead.

[Bug 267028] General protection fault kernel panic immediately after kldload amdgpu

2022-12-05 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=267028

I've discovered how to avoid this crash (at least the last 20-30 times I have
booted up): boot into single user mode, type to run /bin/sh, type
"kldload amdgpu," and then (key step!) wait at least five seconds before typing
ctrl-D to exit single user mode. Since I don't know why this helps, I guess it
falls into the voodoo category, but maybe it's a clue.

[Bug 268186] Kerberos authentication fails with a Linux/FreeIPA KDC

2022-12-05 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=268186

Bug ID: 268186
Summary: Kerberos authentication fails with a Linux/FreeIPA KDC
   Product: Base System
   Version: Unspecified
  Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Some People
  Priority: ---
 Component: bin
  Assignee: b...@freebsd.org
  Reporter: amend...@gmail.com

When using a Linux-based FreeIPA server as the KDC, users cannot authenticate
to FreeBSD hosts using SSH with GSSAPI. Errors from sshd indicate the
encryption algorithm used in the service ticket is not supported:

debug3: receive packet: type 61 [preauth]
  debug3: mm_request_send: entering, type 44 [preauth]
  debug3: mm_request_receive_expect: entering, type 45 [preauth]
  debug3: mm_request_receive: entering [preauth]
  debug3: mm_request_receive: entering
  debug3: monitor_read: checking request 44
  debug1: Miscellaneous failure (see text)
  encryption type 20 not supported

  debug1: Got no client credentials
  debug3: mm_request_send: entering, type 45
  debug3: userauth_finish: failure partial=0 next
methods="publickey,gssapi-with-mic" [preauth]

Encryption type 20 refers to the aes256-cts-hmac-sha384-192 algorithm. It is
defined in RFC8009 (https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc8009.html#section-7) and
has been supported since Heimdal 7.0.1, released in 2016.

Looking at the FreeBSD base system, we are on Heimdal 1.5.2, released in 2012.
Are there any plans to update Heimdal in the base system to a more recent
version?

Hi, this is by design. Makefiles have completely different syntax than shell
files. It's only an unfortunate illusion that sysrc could be used for anything
other than shell files.

I agree that it would be nice to have one tool that can edit all configuration
files on FreeBSD. I myself learnt the hard way that sysrc is not suitable for
loader.conf and sysctl.conf.

Fatal error: I/O error

./src/history.c:268
