[Bug 252743] rs(1) with -C adds spurious trailing separator

2021-01-16 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=252743

Bug ID: 252743
   Summary: rs(1) with -C adds spurious trailing separator
   Product: Base System
   Version: Unspecified
  Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Some People
  Priority: ---
 Component: bin
  Assignee: b...@freebsd.org
  Reporter: free...@tim.thechases.com

To reproduce:

$ jot 3 | rs -C,

Expected output:

1,2,3

Actual output:

1,2,3,

(note the trailing comma)
_

By default, rs(1) will strip trailing delimiters:

$ jot 3 | rs
1  2  3
$ jot 3 | rs | hexdump -C | head -1
  31 20 20 32 20 20 33 0a   |1  2  3.|

and `rs -m` will properly preserve them:

$ jot 3 | rs -m | hexdump -C | head -1
  31 20 20 32 20 20 33 20  20 0a|1  2  3  .|

(note the additional two hex "20" space values).

Similarly, the -S$DELIM option properly strips trailing delimiters while `-m`
keeps them:

$ jot 3 | rs -S,
1,,2,,3
$ jot 3 | rs -mS,
1,,2,,3,,

However, when specifying an output delimiter with -C, it doesn't strip the
trailing delimiter:

$ jot 3 | rs -C,
1,2,3,

That's the output I would expect from `rs -mC,` to maintain a trailing
delimiter:

$ jot 3 | rs -C, -m
1,2,3,

as the man-page for rs(1) says

> -m Do not trim excess delimiters from the ends of the output array.

suggesting that trailing delimiters (including those from `-C`) should be
trimmed unless `-m` is specified.

[Bug 252734] FreeBSD virtual machine disk images should have greater virtual hard disk capacities

The correct solution is to grow the provided image. Otherwise we could not
provide one image that would be installable in tiny environments as well as
your huge 2TB environment. Growing VM images is common and widely supported.

[Bug 252709] exit status of ping utility floating error

2021-01-16 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=252709

--- Comment #2 from sgm@gmail.com ---
1. False result in result of execution of "if /sbin/ping -c 3 -W 3 some_host".

2. Scrips were changed to:
===
if /sbin/ping -c 1 -W 1 hostaddr > /var/log/periodic/ping/testhostaddr.txt
then
MSG="test hostaddr OK"
else
MSG="test hostaddr failed"
echo `date` >> /var/log/periodic/ping/testhostaddr.err
cat /var/log/periodic/ping/testhostaddr.txt >>
/var/log/periodic/ping/testhostaddr.err
fi
===
where "hostaddr" is variable for different scripts for different hosts.

Results:
- last night script worked for only one host. No one error appered.
- after adding into crontab 6 script for different hosts, errors took place
nearly 3 times an hour.
  Files "testhostaddr.err" contains no errors, only time of errors appeared.
  It looks like /sbin/ping did not start if more than one scripts started
simultaneously.

--- Comment #13 from Mateusz Piotrowski <0...@freebsd.org> ---
(In reply to Yuri Pankov from comment #12)

Piątek is abbreviated as pt. on FreeBSD (which seems to be what Wikipedia says:
https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi%C4%85tek). Gentoo, for example, prints "pią"
instead. I think that the FreeBSD abbreviation is OK.

According to Wikipedia, week and month names follow the same abbreviation rules
as other standard nouns.

I've also checked GNOME calendar. Month names are displayed correctly (i.e., "1
czerwca", "czerwiec").

I believe we can close this PR.

Hah. I came to the same conclusion before seeing your comment. Indeed, the
macros are undefined when using the gcc that ships with the base system but
they are defined when using gcc9 from ports. (And by looking at the source
tree, I understand that they are defined as well when using the clang in the
base system.)

[Bug 235016] ASIX AX99100 based uart controllers broken on 12.0

2021-01-16 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=235016

--- Comment #2 from da...@dcrosstech.com ---
Created attachment 221648
  --> https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=221648&action=edit
Patch to fix uart_bus_pci.c

This is my working patch. After consulting with the pci_alloc_msi and freebsd
MSI page as well as looking at other drivers I think this is probably the
'best' patch at this point.

Given: https://people.freebsd.org/~grehan/msi_api.txt (yes, it looks a bit
dated), that makes it explicitly clear that if you get back fewer MSI resources
than the device expects the driver is responsible for ensuring the device
doesn't generate MSI greater than has been allocated.. There is no such code in
the UART space. Additionally there are numerous other drivers that expect a
single MSI count and if they get it establish MSI for that, and if not fall
back to legacy IRQ.

I couldn't get anything resembling "real" documentation out of ASIX for what is
going on, but given a few facts: That MSI interrupts must be allocated in
powers of 2, that NO MSI interrupts are visible on this device when it is
enabled (that I have ben able to find), and there are 5 UART interrupt
registers (tx, rx, sigchange, overrun, break) I am *guessing* they map 5 MSI
interrupts to each of those individual serial interrupt registers. I briefly
contemplated attempting to wire these directly to the uart_intr_* calls, or all
of them to uart_intr itself, but there were too many questions about the right
way to pass this along, to abstract it, and the concurrency (multiple
interrupts firing at once on different cores).. given that, i think this is the
best patch.

Thanks!

Is this still applicable? That description now reads:

  BUS_DMA_ALLOCNOW  Pre-allocate enough
resources to handle at
least one map load
operation on this tag.  If
sufficient resources are
not available, ENOMEM is
returned.  This should not
be used for tags that only
describe buffers that will
be allocated with
bus_dmamem_alloc().  Also,
due to resource sharing
with other tags, this flag
does not guarantee that
resources will be
allocated or reserved
exclusively for this tag.
It should be treated only
as a minor optimization.

[Bug 252757] WITHOUT_INSTALLLIB build option fails on usr.bin/fortune

2021-01-16 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=252757

Bug ID: 252757

   Product: Base System
   Version: CURRENT
  Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Only Me
  Priority: ---
 Component: bin
  Assignee: b...@freebsd.org
  Reporter: edi...@callfortesting.org

If WITHOUT_INSTALLLIB=YES is set in /etc/src.conf on 13.0-ALPHA1 amd64, the
following error is generated:

--- _bootstrap-tools-usr.bin/fortune/strfile ---
cc: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation)
--- _bootstrap-tools-usr.bin/mandoc ---
--- .depend ---

>> .depend
--- _bootstrap-tools-usr.bin/fortune/strfile ---
*** [strfile.full] Error code 1

This patch appears to address it but I cannot say if strfile should be excluded
within fortune, or simply all of usr.bin/fortune when the build option is
requested:

I have experimented with a number of conditional exclusions in lib/Makefile but
was not successful in resolving the issue.

[Bug 252761] multichannel USB audio device reports only 2 channels via SNDCTL_AUDIOINFO

2021-01-16 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=252761

Bug ID: 252761
   Summary: multichannel USB audio device reports only 2 channels
via SNDCTL_AUDIOINFO
   Product: Base System
   Version: CURRENT
  Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Only Me
  Priority: ---
 Component: kern
  Assignee: b...@freebsd.org
  Reporter: ema...@freebsd.org

After attaching an 18-in / 18-out device:

ugen0.7:  at usbus0
uaudio0 on uhub0
uaudio0:  on usbus0
uaudio0: Play[0]: 48000 Hz, 18 ch, 32-bit S-LE PCM format, 2x8ms buffer.
uaudio0: Record[0]: 48000 Hz, 18 ch, 32-bit S-LE PCM format, 2x8ms buffer.
uaudio0: MIDI sequencer.
pcm2:  on uaudio0
uaudio0: No HID volume keys found.

SNDCTL_AUDIOINFO reports min_channels = 2, max_channels = 2

pcm/dsp.c::dsp_oss_audioinfo() only reports 1 or 2 for min/max it appears:

for (i = 0; caps->fmtlist[i]; i++) {
fmts |= caps->fmtlist[i];
if (AFMT_CHANNEL(caps->fmtlist[i]) > 1) {
minch = (minch == 0) ? 2 : minch;
maxch = 2;
} else {
minch = 1;
maxch = (maxch == 0) ? 1 : maxch;
}
}

Being dtc related, this fix would need to be conditional on ARM platforms.

[Bug 252720] powerpc64 gcc toolchain missing __BYTE_ORDER__ et. al.

2021-01-16 Thread bugzilla-noreply

--- Comment #4 from Julio Merino,+1 347 694 0576,New York City

Created attachment 221660
  --> https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=221660&action=edit
Avoid __BYTE_ORDER__

I scanned the stable/12 source tree and found a bunch of files that query
__BYTE_ORDER__. Most seem to have provisions for this macro not being defined,
but a couple of them do not. The attached patch seems to have helped generate a
new powerpc64 userland that works well.

I do not know if this kind of patch is desired, or if instead sys/endian.h or
something like that should be modified to define __BYTE_ORDER__ in terms of
other available macros when the former is detected to be missing. It seems to
me that this would be slightly more robust.

There is also the question of how this problem slipped through QA into a
release.
