Dear Sirs,

I am an absolute FreeBSD beginner and am writing here after suggestion got in
the Forum. Briefing: as in the title, DVD and image stick install process
aborts some lines after process starts and machine automatically reboots
showing GRUB2.
Better than words a short video can show you what I mean, here:

lshw machine here:
https://pastebin.com/nGx5K1NA

Two HDD on the machine: /dev/sda = only Windows 10
/dev/sdb = Linux GPT partitions ext4
(plus or minus 70 GB each plus NTFS for data, efi and
swap)

If needing more data, please, let me know.

downloaded and whether you have tried any others?

If you haven't tried any others, I would attempt the bootonly and memstick
images, if nothing else than to give us a couple of more datapoints

I have been downloading this one:

and this one:

https://download.freebsd.org/ftp/releases/amd64/amd64/ISO-IMAGES/12.0/FreeBSD-12.0-RELEASE-amd64-memstick.img

getting the same result.

After that, I have been trying this one:

it doesn't start a too.

[Bug 234614] rc framework should provide RC_SERVICE analog

2019-01-04 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=234614

Bug ID: 234614
Summary: rc framework should provide RC_SERVICE analog
   Product: Base System
   Version: CURRENT
  Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Some People
  Priority: ---
 Component: bin
  Assignee: b...@freebsd.org
  Reporter: kev...@freebsd.org

Created attachment 200770
  --> https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=200770&action=edit
git(1) diff against rc.subr

Some rc scripts in ports (e.g. uwsgi, apache, openvpn) allow for 'application
profiles' that usually require the rc script to be invoked again for each
active profile. Because there's no consistent way to determine the path because
it differs between manual/service(8) invocations and /etc/rc invocations, this
leads to patterns like these:

https://svnweb.freebsd.org/ports/head/www/uwsgi/files/uwsgi.in?revision=473044&view=markup#l104
(hardcoded script path)
https://svnweb.freebsd.org/ports/head/security/openvpn/files/openvpn.in?revision=420825&view=markup#l73
(guessing a $_file or $0 based on $0 = /etc/rc)

We should provide something similar to OpenRC's RC_SERVICE that rc scripts can
consistently use to re-invoke themselves as needed, rather than having to play
guessing games.

I'm attaching a diff that approximately does ${_file-$0}, but instead sets up
an rc_service var as execution goes. It will get set initially to $0, which may
be a terrible guess if we're being executed via /etc/rc, but this guess later
gets corrected for that case in run_rc_script before the script actually gets
sourced.

Whether we're directly executing and sourcing rc.subr for the first time, or
whether rc.subr is sourcing the script, rc_service provided by rc.subr should
be correct and available in the rc script.

[Bug 234622] [libc] getgrent() issue with large NIS groups

2019-01-04 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=234622

Bug ID: 234622
Summary: [libc] getgrent() issue with large NIS groups
   Product: Base System
   Version: 11.2-RELEASE
  Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Some People
  Priority: ---
 Component: kern
  Assignee: b...@freebsd.org
  Reporter: tcle...@ucdavis.edu

Created attachment 200779
  --> https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=200779&action=edit
Patch for 11.2

getgrent misses large NIS groups so the group list for those users is
incorrect.

To replicate simply make a large NIS group (500+ characters) and then run
groups on one of those users. From one of my systems:
> ypmatch crc group
crc::499:ccctim,itsnoopy,rodd,jkperla,ncmolina,ajnichol,itlm003,itlm005,itlm011,itlm012,itlm019,itlm022,itlm023,itlm031,itlm032,itlm033,itlm034,itlm035,itlm038,itlm039,itlm040,itlm041,itlm043,itlm045,itlm046,itlm049,itlm054,itlm055,itlm057,itlm061,itlm064,itlm067,itlm068,itlm070,itlm071,itlm072,itlm076,itlm079,itlm080,itlm082,itlm084,itlm086,itlm087,itlm088,itlm089,itlm091,itlm092,itlm094,itlm095,itlm097,itlm098,itlm099,itlm100,itlm104,itlm107,itlm109,itlm111,itlm112,itlm113,itlm114,itlm123,itlm125,itlm126,itlm127,itlm130,itlm134,itlm138,itlm140,itlm141,itlm145,itlm146,itlm147,itlm151,itlm167,itlm179,itlm196,itlm197

> groups ccctim
users lm hws projects office eyevocab roomres crcsuper

So while "ypmatch crc group" lists the entire group including ccctim, "groups
ccctim" doesn't list crc.

I've seen this issue on various releases of FreeBSD 9, 10 & 11. I think it's
the same as 96840. That bug report says fixed and closed, but I'm continuing
to see the same issue. I've been using that patch in 96840 to fix the bug each
release. So can you double check to see if the issue was really fixed?

I've attached the latest patch for FreeBSD 11.2.

Hi,

Immediately after upgrading from FreeBSD 11.2 to 12.0, network TX performance
dropped significantly. Seems to be related to TSO, or at least disabling it
resolves the problem for me. Setup is a physical FreeBSD 12 host connected to
a mixture of physical and virtual Debian and Ubuntu machines via a 10gbit

[Bug 234625] iMac early 2008 garbled screen during install from USB stick

2019-01-04 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=234625

Bug ID: 234625
Summary: iMac early 2008 garbled screen during install from USB
stick
   Product: Base System
   Version: 12.0-RELEASE
  Hardware: amd64
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Only Me
  Priority: ---
 Component: kern
  Assignee: b...@freebsd.org
  Reporter: j...@freebsd.org

After loading text, data and syms, the screen switches modes and becomes
unreadable. After booting completes you can make out a blue background and
whitish stripe across the middle of the screen which would be the first menu.

By booting into OS X I determined that the iMac has a Radeon GPU.

I was able to get around the problem as follows:

1. After booting to the first menu, type Ctrl+Alt+F4 to get to a shell. The
screen is still garbled here, so this alone does not help.

2. Blindly type "kldload radeonkms". The screen then resets to a readable
state.

I have not tried 11.2 on this machine, but would be willing to if it might help
isolate the issue.

Followup:

Must use the same trick when booting from installed system.

To fix add the following to /etc/rc.conf:

kld_list="radeonkms"

Can you tell what is accessing the disk via the non /dev/label interface? Some
geoms can hardcode the label name to avoid tasting the other name.

Either way, I think our current interface of randomly killing device names that
lost the first-open race is definitely *a* bug. I don't know if we're tracking
it in some other PR or not.

I just want create a label that can be used in /etc/fstab, if I add a new hard
disk, the device number maybe be changed, for example, from ada7s11 to ada8s11;
if I use /dev/ada7s11 in /etc/fstab, freebsd system will be suspended, failed
to statrt.
