I have exactly the same issue, and have made no progress.

Laptop:
Chromebook Pixel with Developer mode and SeaBIOS enabled as per:
http://vger.kernel.org/~davem/chromebook_pixel_linux.txt
32GB SSD
Intel CORE i5 Ivy Bridge with Panther Point PCH

Flash Drives tried:
Strontium 16GB
Apacer 4GB

Formatting USB Drives with Disk Utility on OSX as Fat32, tried MBR and GUID.
Also tried formatting with Windows.
Using DD on OSX to write to the bootable USBs:
dd if=FreeBSD-10.1-RELEASE-amd64-memstick.img of=/dev/disk2 bs=64k conv=sync

Tried:
FreeBSD-10.1-RELEASE-amd64-memstick.img
FreeBSD-10.1-RELEASE-amd64-uefi-memstick.img

Noticed the comment RE mem=XX, which is mentioned at step 7) of the above link.
Have not figured out how to set this kernel parameter on FreeBSD.

This issue is fixed after flashing coreboot firmware on my chromebox.

Seems that stock firmware doesn't have support to non-linux os. But please be
noted that after flashing coreboot firmware you won't be able to boot back to
chromeos as your chromebook will turn to a "ordinary x86 machine".

Thank you very much for the prompt response.

Is it easy/possible to revert the firmware change?
I'd consider doing it temporarily to the Pixel, but don't think I would if it's
basically permanent.

You can restore to stock firmware using chromium os. They have the same set of
recovery commands as in chrome os.

Firmware images may available on the internet but it is better to do the backup
before flashing.

You may refer to the the link I posted before for the actual steps. Good luck
and enjoy !

As a note for others:
The Chromebook Pixel is an Intel Core i5-3427U (dual-core 1.8 GHz) CPU, meaning
that using the specific firmware in the guide above will likely brick the
device. The guide is for ChromeBoxes.

Thanks again ApplePuffs.

[Bug 195078] em tx_dma_fails and dropped packets

2015-01-09 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=195078

After further testing, even platforms that have hw.em.rxd/txd set to 256 will
start logging errors like tx_dma_fail at high throughputs.

The only solution is to turn off txcsum, rxcsum and tso4 for these em0 cards.

[Bug 196646] r276149 breaks gif with if_bridge and EtherIP

2015-01-09 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=196646

Bug ID: 196646
Summary: r276149 breaks gif with if_bridge and EtherIP
   Product: Base System
   Version: 10.1-STABLE
  Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Some People
  Priority: ---
 Component: kern
  Assignee: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org
  Reporter: j...@jnielsen.net
CC: a...@freebsd.org

I discovered this under 10-STABLE but it probably affects 11-CURRENT (after
r273087) as well.

I've been using a gif(4) Ethernet (EtherIP/if_bridge) tunnel between two
10-STABLE FreeBSD machines for a while with no problem. After updating both
sides on 2014-12-30 the tunnel stopped working.

Today I reverted r276149 (the MFC of the if_gif overhaul) from my source tree
and rebuilt the kernel. The tunnel works again.

I'm sure the if_gif overhaul was needed but it would be great to get the
EtherIP functionality restored.

Both ends of the tunnel are running: 10.1-STABLE FreeBSD 10.1-STABLE #2
r276732M [minus r276149]: Fri Jan 9 11:16:55 MST 2015

I'm happy to test patches.

[Bug 196650] [PATCH] Display progress during getmemsize() so the kernel doesn't look like it hanged

2015-01-09 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=196650

Bug ID: 196650
Summary: [PATCH] Display progress during getmemsize() so the
kernel doesn't look like it hanged
   Product: Base System
   Version: 11.0-CURRENT
  Hardware: amd64
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Some People
  Priority: ---
 Component: kern
  Assignee: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org
  Reporter: rpok...@panasas.com

Created attachment 151564
  --> https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=151564&action=edit
Add a progress indicator to getmemsize() memory mapping - print a dot every GB

Several people have noticed that there can be a long, silent pause early in
boot on amd64 systems with large amounts of physical RAM. This is while all the
memory ranges are getting mapped in. Even with the memory tests disabled, this
can take a noticeably long time, to the point that its easy to think that the
kernel has stopped booting. The attached patch provides a basic progress
indicator (print a dot as every GB is mapped), so it is obvious that progress
actually is being made.
