[Evolution] use of contacts in Evolution 1.2.2-4

2006-04-16 Thread me
Hi - I am new to Evolution, running the version of that came on
the Red Hat 9 CD's. All seems to work except using contacts
for email addresses. As long as I type the address myself
things work. If I attempt to enter a nickname in the address
field the program does seem to pull the email address out of the
contacts list, but then on attempting to send it the program generates
an error:

   Error while performing operation
RCPT to failed: Syntax error in parameters or arguments

At first I thought perhaps something had failed on importing the
addresses, but the same thing happens if I manually create a contact and
attempt to use the address.

When I look at the result in the out box the email address seems to be
properly placed, (it is underlined - I don't know if this is
significant). I haven't found anything about this in the help files.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

[Evolution] adding contacts from a text file list

2009-01-19 Thread me
Hi
I'd like to do an email shot and have the emails in a text file
ie one per line.

I don't want to add the contacts to a list as instructed...
ie File > New > Contact List.
Specify email in the single line field
click add
ie one at a time.

Is there some way I can cut and paste the list
into a new contact list in Evolution?

Any help much appreciated.

[Evolution] automatically genereted contacts

2006-08-13 Thread me stesso
hi everyone,at lest in the release 2.4.6 you can tell evolution to automatically add a contact to your address book at any replay you perform.  (options--> mail preferences-->>. )question: is it possible to tell evolution to pick up *every address* containd in the incoming mail and to put it in the contacts file? My problem is that after restored my system, i have succesfully imported the old mbox to the new installation, but i have lost my contacts. Is there a smarter way other than  tape my self everything?thanks!jo

[Evolution] RE : Re: automatically genereted contacts

2006-08-13 Thread me stesso
  >hi jo,hallo Andre>i always wonder why people ask a question (auto import all >email>addresses) totally unrelated to their problem (restoring their >address>books)... :-) well what shall I sayunder *precises* conditions, asking random questions could be a very renewing practice, did'nt you know? too complicated to explain, Andre. I have backed up my /home (befor a format and a new installation of ubuntu 6.06) but thats not the point, the contacts.db that is in it is ridicolously inconsistent  in relations to the size of my inbox (it contains not more than 20 addresses while there are more than 8000 incoming msgs in the inbox, from i guess, 100/150 persons with which i would like to be in contact). That's why i was asking a way to extract the addresses: I do not have a contacts file who is worthy to restore.so, if there is a way... I will be vry happy

[Evolution] comparison to Thunderbird

2010-04-24 Thread Write Me

Dear All

I am a frustrated Thunderbird (Kubuntu) user who cannot get full access
to the printing options. I have tried a fix that was assertive and had
success for others but did not work for me. I have been trying for over
a year.

I have used other distros and always had the same problem. Firefox
gives me full access to all the printing options and always has.

So now I have had enough and wish to move away from Thunderbird. I have
looked at KMail and Evolution. Both give me full access to the printing
options, and Evolution is the better inteface. But alas, alack I cannot
see how to make separate inboxes etc for each account. I have five
e-mail accounts and wish that they retain their separate inbox, drafts,
Trash etc.

In my Windows days I used Outlook Express but had to make separate
profiles and move between them to administer different e-mail accounts.
Of course there were no printing issues either. When I discovered
Thunderbird in Windows I was a very happy man.

It is the transition to Linux that is held up by these anomalies.
Imagine in this sophisticated Linux era not being able to chose which
quality of print you wish to do. Silly really.

Any help aor advise appreciated
