[Evolution] Ctrl-S to save message does not work - Bug?

2010-07-18 Thread Chris
Mandriva 2010.1, Gnome 2.30.0, Evo 2.30.2. Before filing a bug report I
want to find out if anyone else notices that the Ctrl-S key will not
bring up a window to save a message.

Do you mean from the composer or from the main mail-reading window? In
the composer there are a number of variants of Save, several of them
with shortcuts (e.g. Ctrl-S saves a draft and Shift-Ctrl-S saves the
message etc.). Do you mean these shortcuts don't work?

There are no shortcuts from the main window. Is that what you consider a
bug?

In the main mail reading window and yes, it used to be there how else
are you supposed to save a received message? It's even shown in the
Quick Reference help:

Save selection Ctrl+S

Therefore if I 'select' your message and press Ctrl-S a dialog window
should come up and ask me where I want to save the message, it sure
worked in the previous version of Evo that I was running with Mandriva
2010.0. Therefore I consider this a bug.

It doesn't make sense not to be able to save messages to a file.

You can save them to a file. It's called "Save as mbox", available both
from the File menu and via right-click on the message. I don't know why
it used to have a shortcut and now does not. Perhaps it was considered
to be of only occasional use. If you feel strongly about this, request
an enhancement on Bugzilla.

Note that the Quick Reference has Ctrl-S under "General", not
specifically under "Mail", so it may have a meaning in other parts of
Evo. I only use the Mail component so I wouldn't know.

I don't know if it's in the online Help, since frankly I think the Help
section is oriented as a tutorial and is pretty useless for reference
purposes.

Sorry, I didn't see hints on that in the welcome message of the list.

Yes, I know this. As I mentioned in another email, there was an
inconsistency between the number (11) reported in the window title and
the number (1) of emails shown. Now, both are consistent and seem to be
right. Evolution shows 3 emails and reports the same number in the
window title. Note also that the mailbox content and the search term did
not change. So there must have been something wrong in the data
structures of Evolution. But it is OK now. I additionally verified that
with other search terms, which did not work correctly before.

So, the only thing that remains for me is: How can I make Evolution
reorganise its data when I find a similar behaviour in the future?
Looking through the menus, I did not find something like that. So I
suppose my previous way -- creating a new account for the same mailbox
-- is the best to go.

Thanks Patrick for being so responsive.

Take a look at
http://www.go-evolution.org/FAQ#Why_do_I_get_an_error_.22Summary_and_folder_mismatch.2C_even_after_a_sync.22.3F
I know it's not the error you're seeing but it explains how to force
reconstruction of the indices.

[Evolution] Restore evolution backup under windows

2010-07-18 Thread RRacker

Hello,
I want to use evolution under Windows 7.
Install went fine, I am trying to restore a evolution.gz file but it
doesnt work
I use the 2.28.2-1 version from dipconsults
when I choose the backup and click on APPLY for a "very" short time a DOS
window pops up and I believe it is saying "Windows couldnt find he path ..."
or something like this.
As dipconsults are stating :
Our package sets the environment paths automatically, which again makes
things manageable for your 'average', non-geek user.
I guess it didnt set it on my PC, I see only the usual path settings after a
usual Windows installation.

thx

Re: [Evolution] Hidden emails when searching in the whole account

2010-07-18 Thread Walter Bamberger
Hi,

I finally got things working with the following:

I create a second account for the same inbox and, this time, with the
default settings. It turned out that it worked then. It was strange
though that my first account was not visible in the left pane now. So I
deleted that second account. After a restart, my old account was visible
again. And it works for this as well now. I also observed that there
were only 3 emails for the search term I used previously in my mailbox,
not 11 as reported by Evolution before. All three emails are visible
now.

>From this, I draw the conclusion that Evolution must have an index,
which was inconsistent with the email data. So, Evolution knew of 11
(probably already removed) emails and those were not there any more. The
creation of the new account seems to have reorganised this index, so it
is working good now.

Does someone know a better method to recreate the local index?

Thanks Patrick and Thomas for your help. Best regards,

Simon
