Thanks so much for the quick response. I love Open Source and the Evo
developers who respond so quickly.

 1. 10:00AM, Tuesday 1/13: run Ubuntu updates, notice an update to
Evolution. Restart Evolution. It crashes. Kill all evo
related processes. Still crashes. Run from the command line.
Note errors upon crash.
 2. 10:35AM, Tuesday: post the problem to evo list.
 3. 10:46AM, Tuesday: first response from evo developer
 4. 10:48AM, Tuesday: a report that a bug has already been posted by
another user.
 5. 1:39PM, Tuesday: problem diagnosed and the repository update
scheduled.
Yesterday I worked from home where hardy is installed and unaffected by
the problem.
This morning I run the updates at work, and evolution is working fine
again.

Thanks, I really appreciate this.

[Evolution] PST import plugin for Evolution added

2009-01-15 Thread Bharath Acharya
Hello,

I have committed a PST Importer for Evolution.

pst file:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.pst

The commit revision of Evolution:
http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/evolution?view=revision&revision=37078

It will require libpst version 0.6.17 as of today. Still need to make
appropriate changes to the sources to get it working with the latest
version. I have composed a small wiki for now.
http://www.go-evolution.org/Libpst

The tracker bug for this is
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=208426

Do let us know your experiences and suggestions. TIA

This is really good news. How long before it makes it into a release?

A big thanks should also go to the self sustaining community members who
so diligently respond in mailing lists, write tools for easily building
evolution, file bugs, triage issues, update FAQ etc.

I was so personally excited when my migration work was given a lot of
feedback, so many times, after every iteration of improvement.

Thank you Folks :-)

This should be available on 2.26 (and is, right now, available on
trunk).

BUT -- for us, in Ubuntu, we will need to repackage libpst and propose
it for inclusion in the main repository, in order to make it available.
I would expect this will be in the evolution-plugins-experimental (2.26)
package (in other words, in Jaunty).

I am currently checking on what is needed to be done.

Bharath -- the libpst patch you list: has it been proposed (& accepted)
upstream already? If not, could you tell us when it is? I would rather
have libpst packaged as pure as possible from upstream...

Thanks,

[Evolution] Evolution for Windows: wont start

2009-01-15 Thread Dustin Hamilton
[Note: apologies if this gets listed twice; my mail server stated the original
bounced... this is a re-try to post]

I just installed Evolution for Windows in prep for making a future jump from
Window to Linux... unfortunately I cant even get it to launch. I installed
v2.24.0 and when I try to run it I get the error "This application has failed
to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found..."

A search shows many different copies of this file, most of which are in a Java
subdirectory... so I am thinking it is already registered and perhaps Evolution
isn't able to access it?

Thanks for any assistance...

[Evolution] Evolution 2.24.2 on Fedora 10 - Global Contact List Error

2009-01-15 Thread David Weintraub
I am on a Dell PC with 3Gigs of memory running Fedora 10 (x64 version).

I have Evolution 2.24.2 setup to use my Microsoft Exchange Server, and
I can access my mail and send and receive email. I have the
mail-notification set to check my MAPI email box because it appears
that the mail-notification doesn't work with Evolution unless
Evolution itself is up and running.

My problem is my company's global contact list.. I get the following error:

Error loading address book.

We were unable to open this address book. This either means you have
entered an incorrect URI, or the server is unreachable.

However, my personal contacts from the Exchange Server are coming
over. And, so are my calendar appointments.

Basically, everything except the Global Contact List. Any ideas?

BTW, I had Ubuntu 10 installed on this computer and I could access my
Global Address Book. I had other issues with Ubuntu, and installed
Evolution because other people at my company used it without problems.

Good job!

The last time when i tried libpst 0.5.3, i encountered problem that it
reads only pst file created by Outlook before version 2003. What are the
versions supported by this Importer?

Thanks and Cheers

It's an optional dependency. If you have libpst (and its -devel
counterpart) when compiling Evolution, the plugin would get built
automatically*. It will not be an "external dependency" for Evolution.

-Suman

* This automagic can be removed and an appropriate configure option
can be added very easily.

http://hg.five-ten-sg.com/libpst/rev/ff1743cbe4aa
^^^ That's the commit for generating a shared library. The other patch
I'll make changes to the Evo code sometime soon to fix it up locally
than upstream in libpst. For now its a patch on top of libpst.

I'll build the new packages released and let you know the results.

Yes, libpst 0.5.3 just worked with the older formats. We have introduced
support for the new version (2003 and 2007) since 0.6.1

So yes the Evolution importer would work well with the new formats of
version 2003,2007.

The new pst versions are encoded in unicode format.

Thanks, Bharath. You other patch had to be rebased on 0.6.27 (see
attachment). I am not sure about libpst trunk, though, did not look at
it.

I am building a libpst package for Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04), and will see
what happens.

Again, thanks,
