Atleast with 2.8 that I have, it doesn't work in the way you see. It

Evolution as of now does not support serve-side rules. But if you have
created rules from other clients, Evolution in no way can stop them from
executing.

You can set up a filter to pipe new message to a MTA. But the best
solution is server-side redirection as it does not require client to be
always open.

Copy the HTML code into a text editor and save it as an HTML file
somewhere. Then open with your favorite browser, or use 'lynx -dump' at
the command line. Images will likely be broken, but you should be able
to get the content.

[Evolution] my contact list does not work

2007-02-15 Thread Andrei Raevsky
Hi,

I am new to Evolution (I am using Evolution 2.6.1 under gNewSense 1.1, a
Debian/Ubuntu -based 100% free distro). I am puzzled as to why when I
click the "to:" button within the 'send message' window no contacts from
my contact list appear. Even a search does not yield any results even
though I am using the 'personal' address book (the only one on my
computer anyway).

But when I look into the 'Contacts' section I see all my contacts in the
'personal'.

How can I make my contacts appear in the "to" menu?

Many thanks,

When you click on the "To" button in the composer window, do you see
"Any Category" as the "Category"? If not, select "Any Category" and
you should be able to see all contacts.

[Evolution] gnutls and Suse 10.2 upgrade

2007-02-15 Thread jsteven4

I've just upgraded my laptop to 10.2. All other instances of my 10.2 are fresh
installs. I waited to do my laptop as it is so important for my work. Here is
my issue.

After upgrading from Suse 10.1 to 10.2, I try to start evolution and get this
error:

evolution: error while loading shared libraries: libgnutls.so.12: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

So I following the directions in this link:

http://www.mail-archive.com/evolution-list@gnome.org/msg05054.html

Now I get this error:

evolution: /usr/lib/libgnutls.so.12: version `GNUTLS_1_2' not found (required
by /usr/local/lib/libsoup-2.2.so.8)

I use evolution to connect to exchange. It's the primary and only real reason
that I use evolution. Has anyone experienced this issue before? I am not
certain yet how to back level except to go with the version of Gnutls that is
on 10.1, but then I'm not sure what it will break. Could I be missing some
other config file or command that I need to run to get evolution to work here?
Funny thing is that the first time I did the link, evolution started and when
it asked me for a password, it would blow up and die. Now after a reboot, it
will not even start. Upgrading Suse was done primarily to get to the new
version of evolution so that I would not have to live with so many bugs.

I have a lot of email saved in evolution and really need access to it. Any help
would be appreciated.

[Evolution] fonts in composer

2007-02-15 Thread Ricardo M. Costa
Hello all,
Firstly, thank you for a fantastic piece of programming. This is one
of the better apps I've come across since migrating to Linux (Ubuntu
6.10). I would like to make a few requests:

 1. It is a bit odd that I can select the font for incoming mail
from others, but I cannot choose the font for my own
compositions. Try as I may, I can't locate any menu options that
can get me around this.
 2. It would be very nice to also be able to set defaults for text
and background color.
 3. The reply composer should place one's cursor in a free space
either above or below quoted text, I think. Instead (at least
when one chooses "above" as I do) it places you on the same line
as the beginning of the quoted text.

Thank you again, and please keep up the great work.
Sincerely,
Ricardo M. Costa

I don't want to get into top-/bottom-/medium-/whatever-posting debate (I
am already in one flamewar about that on our internal list :-)), but
needless to say, that there are *some* sensible people who in *some*
scenarios (like personal reply in the firm, where top-posting is standard,
or when forwarding inline) prefer top-posting (see links covering the
discussion from both sides and IMHO pretty well on
).

It would be quite useful IMHO to be able to set up some configuration
options making in some scenarios default top-posting and in some others
bottom-posting (unfortunately, there is probably no way how to enforce
trimming of the previous messages :-)). So for example Reply-to-list
should certainly lead to the bottom-posting, but useer could be able to
configure that Reply-to-author, Forward-inline, or Reply-to-all (or all of
them) lead to the top-posting. I was able to make such configuration with
mutt (obviously, you can do anything in mutt ;-)), but it would be really
lovely to have this option in Evolution as well.

Does it make any sense to you?

Matěj

P.S.: Being this my first post to this NG/list, let me introduce myself. I
was for many years happy user of KDE (and KMail, and before that mutt),
but when I switched to my current job, I had to switch to Gnome. Although
(as good user of KDE ;-)) I did not expect much, I found the experience of
using Gnome surprisingly pleasurable one (with some exceptions, but of
course other exceptions would have to be taken from the general pleasure
of using KDE as well). Now, I would like to understand better Gnome and to
help to make it even better (that's my job, after all, as well).

You could (make a new account with type of server "Usenet"), but Evolution
is really not a good newsreader. I would very strongly suggest using
specific newsreader for that. Gnome standard is Pan (which I use myself
right now) and it is a really good newsreader.

[Evolution] Question about Smart Repositories for Evolution

2007-02-15 Thread jsteven4
Does anyone know of any valid, good Smart repositories or Channels for
Evolution. I use Smart with Suse 10.2, I have to be careful though since
it will try and remove my evolution software since it thinks it does not
belong. So, for now I'm only using what was on the OpenSuse 10.2 install
CD.
Thanks
Joe S.

[Evolution] Evolution looses password

2007-02-15 Thread Ralf Dannhauer
Hi,

I'm using Evolution 2.8.2 on Suse 10.2. I migrated directories

.evolution
.gconf/apps/evolution
.gnome2_private/Evolution

from an older installation. Now Evolution doesn't keep the mailbox
passwords although the checkbox to remember the pw is ticked.

thanks for helping.

[Evolution] Delete of last message doesn't select previous one

2007-02-15 Thread Paul Smith
I have a weird thing going on. I have two different systems both
running Ubuntu 6.10 (Evo 2.8.1), one at work and one at home. Both
connect to the same Exchange server (the home one through a VPN).

In both cases I have my inbox sorted by ascending date (that is, the
newest messages are at the end and the oldest ones at the top)--this
works best for me since when I read a message Evo automatically selects
the next one one down; if my messages are sorted the other way it
selects an older message instead of the next newer message.

On my system at home, after I delete the last message in my folder (the
one at the bottom), it automatically selects the previous one for me,
which is great.

On my system at work, after I delete the last message in my folder
NOTHING is selected at all. This is bad, because in this case if I
switch to another desktop and back, or a new mail arrives, or whatever,
Evo automatically jumps back to the top of the folder and then I have to
scroll all the way back down to the bottom to see any new mail. Very
annoying.

Can anyone tell me what I might have done to get the behavior I want on
my home system and how I could change my work system to behave the same
way? I've looked through all the preferences and I don't see anything.

[Evolution] Exchange Authentication

2007-02-15 Thread Matt Fago
Evolution is authenticating with our Exchange 2003 server using OWA
(using server type "Microsoft Exchange") several times per second.
Because of this the admin wants me to use IMAP mode. Unfortunately, in
this mode Evolution does not seem to support the Exchange Calendar or
Global Address List, making it no more useful than Thunderbird.

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing Evolution to do this, or how
to get everything to work with IMAP?

Any pointers to current documentation?

I'm running evolution in FC6 on x86_64 (everything current as of
2-10-07, waiting on the update to 2.8.3 for a bit).

[please cc me, as I'm not subscribed having trouble reading the list
archive]

Thanks,
Matt

[Evolution] Exchange Authentication

2007-02-15 Thread Matt Fago
Evolution is authenticating with our Exchange 2003 server several times
per second (using server type "Microsoft Exchange"), even though I only
check mail every minute.

I saw mention of exchange-brutus in a recent thread (perhaps eventually
we can use that instead of interfacing to OWA). Browsing the brutus
website lead me to believe that perhaps this is standard behavior for
OWA, possibly exacerbated by Evolution somehow?

Because of this issue the admin wants me to use IMAP mode.
Unfortunately, in this mode Evolution does not seem to support the
Exchange Calendar or Global Address List.

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing Evolution to do this (and
how to fix it), or how to get everything to work with IMAP?

I'm running Evolution in FC6 on x86_64 (current as of
2-15-07, including evolution 2.8.3).

Thanks,
Matt

Alas, no. Even with 'any category' there is nothing there...

Any other ideas?
