Re: GNOME Annual Report | Status Update - Layout Complete

2015-09-22 Thread Oliver Propst
Thanks so much for doing the layout Andreas, looks great.

Think we should aim to have a publish ready version of the report early
next week (which includes minor fixes).

Have started working on a announcement post (available in our WordPress
instance as a draft) which I plan to finish during the weekend.

Thanks everyone who have contributed to the report so far, now let's do the
minor fixes and get the report published!

Re: business cards..

I think email address sounds the best, but I think also mailing
lists should work fine.
I think only certain people use IRC, and the know how to reach our channel
and contact.

Social is pretty cool; Twitter, but also Facebook and G+: they are easy to
follow and help us make our followers base to grow.

My 2c

Cheers,

General theme when promoting 3.18

2015-09-22 Thread Oliver Propst
GNOME 3.18 is just around the corner hope everyone is excited.

When we're speaking about a new release we tend to use some keywords to
describe the release

For the last releases I know we have been talking much about polish and
refinement. Would be interesting to maybe use slightly different keywords
when describing this release

Some ideas about how to describe the release includes:

"Significant improvements to Core Apps", "Significant improvements both
under the hood and to the UI of Core Apps", "Significant UI improvements
to many Apps", "Vastly improved platform".

More suggestions/ideas are of course welcome.

Sorry, that won't fit. I took the text as handed to me and it would take
time I don't have to replan the layout to make the locations fit.

Also I don't see why FOSDEM isn't spelled in caps here.

Re: Rethinking our release press releases

2015-09-22 Thread Oliver Propst
I'm right when I assume that we will not publish a separate press release
tomorrow?
Will this somehow change the format of the news item?

If we are not publishing a separate press release I guess it maybe would
make
sense to elaborate the news item. The 3.16 news item [1] was very brief.

Thank you for the awesome work, Andreas! :)

Actually, I purposely did not include my signature as I believe this to
be a security risk: we have had occurrences of false checks being
emitted with Karen's signature in the past, and I think this could be
one way to somewhat reduce the risk of that sort of situation in the
future. For what it's worth, I looked at the Document Foundation's
annual report and it does not contain signatures either...

Re: GNOME Annual Report | Status Update - Layout Complete

2015-09-22 Thread Allan Day
Thanks for working on this, Andreas! It looks great.

I'm pretty busy with the release, so I've only had a quick look. Two
thoughts though:

1. It would be nice to visually distinguish this report from last
year's, possibly by changing the colours used on the cover?

2. As I mentioned previously, I'm kinda confused about the dates
covered by the annual reports, both as a reader and a contributor.
This one is called the "GNOME Annual Report 2014", which makes it
sound like it covers the 2014 calendar year. Confusingly, last year's
report had *exactly* the same title. If the reports are for the
financial year, perhaps it would be clearer to title it "GNOME Annual
Report 2014-15"? We could also clarify the exact time period covered
somewhere else, too (such as in the introductory letter, or in the
table of contents).

GNOME 3.18 Release Video is public

2015-09-22 Thread Bastian Ilso

Hi everyone,

I had uploaded it 'unlisted' to the GNOMEDesktop channel as a
translation reference, but the URL was unfortunately shared on social
media too soon by a translator. After some discussion in #engagement
we've chosen to embrace the leak, giving the release video the role of
a "preview" of what's coming up in less than 24 hours. So feel free to
share the video below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xu0VSKvfNEI

I think we can easily reshare the video after release too. I am also
going to write a blog post on behind the release video tomorrow to keep
the hype up. :)

2015-09-22 Thread nuritzis
Oliver published #GNOME and #3.18 separately on Twitter, so I was trying to
keep parity. I think #GNOME3.18 would work though!

We should have a meeting about hashtags, in general, sometime soon. As we keep
improving our social media strategy, we'll need to use them strategically and
consistently!
