Re: [Orgmode] [Babel] LaTeX code not exported

2010-12-14 Thread Eric Schulte
Hi Francesco,

The code snippet below *is* exporting however for LaTeX code blocks the
default results type is ":results latex", try setting the results type
to ":results scalar" and you should see the expected export behavior.

Best -- Eric

e.g.

#+begin_src latex :results scalar
\documentclass{article}
#+end_src

Sure, this is how I did usually, but last time I did that IIRC and
Carsten asked me to resend the patch with my text in the commit message.

So please someone really tell me what I should do ! :-)

Thanks, everyone, at least now I know there's no easy and straightforward way to
do this. May I suggest a feature addition? ;-)

TBH it really sounds like too much configuration for the occasional export that
I do... So the next time the need occurs, I'll have forgotten how I did it. But
because WHEN I need to export stuff, it's usually more than a single region,
it's annoying that the "export to buffer, save to temp dir, run latex"-sequence
cannot be automated...

Hi, Julien,

It should be described here:
Commit messages and ChangeLog entries
on http://orgmode.org/worg/org-contribute.php [1]

Unfortunately it seems to be down, I hope you have cloned
worg ;-)

You can see also:

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/emacs-orgmode/2010-07/msg00037.html

I think that you can put some extra, useful, information, that can go
in the Changelog, as lines not beginning with "*".

But if you write very unformal/personal comments like:
'I may have done this badly, ...' you should write after the ---.

cheers,

Sigh. The FSF and my University still haven't been able to come to an
agreement on a disclaimer. So, by all means, use Mathieu's code if it
is less bureaucratically encumbered. It would be nice if the link format
was compatible; there are few brave souls using my patch.

I get the same bug.

Manually evaluating the following sexp at the very start of org.el
fixes it:

: (defvar org-inhibit-highlight-removal nil)

But I can't see any reason why that line would not be evaluated at
startup??

I responded to Sébastien's post earlier, but I'm afraid my message may
have been stuck in Gmane's email obfuscation roundabout.

This error was introduced by a stray apostrophe in a previous patch. I
submitted a fix last night:

http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.orgmode/35046

Until the fix is applied, the easiest solution is to go to the top of
org.el and manually remove the extra apostrophe at the beginning of the
file.

I apologize to all who are receiving this error.

Best,
Matt

Am I right if I say that the ":compact t" option is not allowed, or does not
have any effect for a "columnview" table?

Yes, the site was down, it's up again -- sorry for the trouble.

It looks like the publishing process of Worg was eating too much memory.

I've turned down the publishing cron job for now and I will investigate
what goes wrong tomorrow (I have a day off).

Don't hesitate to ping me directly at b...@gnu.org instead of sending a

Yes I have seen this project, but the way it was done doesn't suit what I am
looking for (totally object interface, possibility to add any kind of objects
type in Nodes, writing files). I made my module first for being able to write
org-mode files and it grows larger.

I hope we could find a way to get the best of each others solutions !

Feel free to tell me what you are using your module for to see how it could be
interfaced with my module (and which things need to be added).

Yes, but an org file with babel is not python native. So I needed for one

org-babel is nice for orgfiles doing computations but not for software

Yes, but I'm looking for a way to use org-mode kind of treating with

What about tangling? When you tangle your org file, you get a source

I reverted to my last pull on Dec 6, and it works correctly, so I
presume the change is somewhere between those two dates.

Can anyone confirm this?

2010-12-14 Thread Karl Maihofer

Hi Eric,

Zitat von Eric Schulte :

Are you sure you are using the latest version of Org-mode?

I am quite sure. That is what "org-version" says. But I do not compile
the elisp files. I only use the following to load a different
org-version in my init.el:

(add-to-list 'load-path "~/elisp/2010-12-14_org-mode/lisp/")
(add-to-list 'load-path "~/elisp/2010-12-14_org-mode/contrib/lisp/")

Perhaps this is not enough to load a fully functional version of Org?

I tried different Emacs-Versions on Linux, Mac and Windows and
different git snapshots of Org of the last few days. But on all
machines the same problem. Strange.

[Orgmode] Embedding the style when exporting to HTML

2010-12-14 Thread Francesco Pizzolante
Hi,

I'm still in the process of managing a project with Org while trying to
evangelize my colleagues to Org. The goal is to share documents in the
simplest possible way.

What I'm trying to do is to have my style be embedded (inline) to my exported
HTML file.

Today, it can done by customizing org-export-html-style or add my whole style
in my Org buffer with the #+STYLE directive.

This has the following disadvantages:

- I have to share my .emacs file with my customizations in order for other
people be able to export the Org file as required. Thus if someone has
  another configuration file, it will not work;

- The style itself (the CSS) is not easily testable and not separate from the
data (it is included in my Org file or in my .emacs).

It would be good to specify a file for the style in the Org buffer itself and
have an option telling Org if the style has to be embedded (or inline) to the
exported HTML or not.

Having this option has the following advantages:

- my exported file is self-contained and is easily shareable;

- anybody can export the Org file and will get the desired result (even with a
  different Emacs config);

- the CSS itself is easily testable and maintainable by different guys and
can even be a different project.

What do you think?

Is it possible to achieve this with the current version of Org?

Any suggestion is welcome.

Regards,
Francesco

[Orgmode] How to use headlines and lists in Org to structure your thoughts?

2010-12-14 Thread Karl Maihofer

The ongoing discussion about inline tasks and drawers withhin lists
much depends on the way you use Org, I think. Perhaps it is a good
idea to brainstorm some fundamental aspects in regard to headlines and
lists.

Why and in which situations do we use lists? I use lists a lot to
write down my thoughts. I think there are mainly two reasons for this:
- Headlines are exported as headlines, not as list items. ;-)
- In Headlines you do not have word wrap. So you always have to phrase
a headline and then write your text below this headline. For me it
is much easier to use lists and write, write, write... with word
  wrap.

I think these are the reasons for me to use lists a lot. But if I do
so, I cannot define tasks in my texts - the core concept of Org. To
solve this dilemma, I can think of two different approaches:

1. Make it possible to use inline tasks withhin lists. This is what
Nicolas implemented (thanks a lot!!!) and what works very well. But
it is not a "nice" concept. We discussed this already and I
understand the reasons why Carsten and Nicolas himself have
reservations. It it only a workaround.
2. Make headlines behave like list items. This means enabling word
wrap for headlines and export the headlines as lists. If a headline
should be exported as a headline you could use a tag :HEADLINE:. If
this would be possible, I cannot see a reason why I should make
   such extensive use of lists.

What do you think? How do you use lists? Do you think the second
approach would make sense? Or do I miss something essential?

Regards,
Karl

[Orgmode] Link descriptions

2010-12-14 Thread Thomas S. Dye

Aloha all,

After reading through the documentation fairly carefully, link
descriptions are yielding unexpected results. Perhaps I missed
something?

I have a link defined for citep:

#+source: define-citep-link
#+begin_src emacs-lisp
  (org-add-link-type
   "citep" 'ebib
   (lambda (path desc format)
 (cond
  ((eq format 'latex)
   (format "\\citep[%s]{%s}" desc path)
#+end_src

With input like [[citep:jones][Jones]], it works fine, yielding
\citep[Jones]{jones}.

My hope, however, is to pass page numbers in the description so with
[[citep:jones][123]] I get \citep[123]{jones}. When I have a
description like this, I get [[citep:jones]$^{123}$] instead.

This looks like a bug to me (at least I wish it would work to pass
page numbers to the \citep command). Have I overlooked a restriction
on link descriptions?

All the best,
Tom

I've struggled with this a lot as well. I basically just use headlines

has been org-capture, which I've configured to save a link back to the
file from which it was called. As long as items show up in the agenda,
I'm less than picky about whether they show up in project notes.

Having said that, I think having TODOs in list items would be useful
for me. I haven't followed the discussion regarding Nick's patches, so
something like the following may not be feasible:

- TODO A list item todo, with properties.
  :PROPERTIES:
  :NIFTY: t
  :END:

But, I can imagine using such a feature often.

Best,
Jeff

[Orgmode] [Bug] Lists with checkboxes

2010-12-14 Thread Achim Gratz

Today I have updated org-mode at work and promptly ran into a regression
introduced between 7.01h and 7.02... Lists with checkboxes don't work
anymore like they are supposed to, the sub-checkboxes are not taken into
account anymore and you can check list items that still have some of
their children unchecked. The progress indicator in the heading still
takes the first level of lists into account correctly. Below is a test
with a "good" version.

* [1/3] List Checkbox Test

  - [ ] First
+ [ ] Sub1
+ [ ] Sub2
+ [ ] Sub3
  - [-] Second
+ [ ] Sub1
+ [X] Sub2
+ [ ] Sub3
  - [X] Third
+ [X] Sub1
+ [X] Sub2
+ [X] Sub3

With the bad version you can do things like this:

* [2/3] List Checkbox Test

  - [X] First
+ [ ] Sub1
+ [ ] Sub2
+ [ ] Sub3
  - [ ] Second
+ [X] Sub1
+ [X] Sub2
+ [ ] Sub3
  - [X] Third
+ [ ] Sub1
+ [ ] Sub2
+ [ ] Sub3

The first bad commit is

[045e3aea280da14a4db36d7b81d959efde4b593a] Fix checkbox statistics

by Nicolas. Emacs 23.2 at work, 23.1 at home, same behaviour on both.
I hope this is an easy fix... I do use that feature quite a bit, but
really like to get some of the fixes that have happened inbetween.

Re: [Orgmode] Embedding the style when exporting to HTML

2010-12-14 Thread Christian Moe

Hi,

The following would make the exported HTML link to an external stylesheet.

#+STYLE:

But that 's not what you're after? You want the stylesheet to be
/outside/ (linked from) your Org file, but /embedded in/ the exported
HTML? Did I get that right?

Thus if someone has
   another configuration file, it will not work;

- my exported file is self-contained and is easily shareable;

- anybody can export the Org file and will get the desired result (even with a
   different Emacs config);

- the CSS itself is easily testable and maintainable by different guys and
can even be a different project.

What do you think?

Is it possible to achieve this with the current version of Org?

Any suggestion is welcome.

Regards,
Francesco

For those old enough to remember PC-Outline, that is the way that
headlines behaved. I'm not sure, but I think that Grandview also had a
similar structure.

Indeed. That would be the ideal solution for me: it would bring all the
advantages I'm looking for:

- separate files for developing separately the style and the content;

- anybody could export the file as no special Emacs configuration is needed;

- the exported file would be self-contained.

Do you think about one way of doing this?

Thanks,
Francesco

[Orgmode] Announce: org-mode and thunderbird integration

2010-12-14 Thread Martin Svenson
I've successfully integrated org-capture with thunderbird

It is very trivial, but since I saw earlier posts on this: check
https://bitbucket.org/phromo/org-thunderbird/src/b6ac29949911/thund.js

It has a few limitations
 - works by org-mode shell links (see note in paste)
 - can't find the email if it gets moved to another folder.

Please post any improvements or suggestions to me or on bitbucket

Hi Tomas,

I believe what you want is to change the

  :exports none

header arguments to

  :exports results

see http://orgmode.org/manual/exports.html#exports

Replace all ":exports none" by ":exports results".

No idea, but I have the exact same behavior with totally different code
blocks. I can reproduce this as well.

I have had no time yet to try and make a complete minimal example. Yours
should be sufficient to serve as bug report to the real Babel experts (Eric
and Dan).

Best regards,

Thats a bit complicated, I#m afraid. I load many libraries from Dropbox
and not from the normal places, so with emacs -Q nothing works anymore.

I wouls like to find the definition of the C-c . and C-u-c . key
strokes. I did a multi-isearch in all .el files in the org directory -
the only hit was in a comment in org.el. Where are these keys defined?
