[Edubuntu-bugs] [Bug 1562291] [NEW] Calibre starts and screws up the graphical user interface
Public bug reported: When starting Calibre from the sidebar by clicking on it, the splash screen is shown (a picture of a shelf of books) and the text loading user interface is displayed. After this, the user interface is corrupted. Not only for Calibre, but for other parts of the system as well. For instance the comments when hovering over the icons of the sidebar are displayed permanently, even when moving to hover over another sidebar icon. When right-clicking the Calibre icon on the sidebar and selecting Exit, the user interface seems to function normal again ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: calibre 2.48.0+dfsg-1build1 [modified: usr/bin/calibre usr/bin/calibre-customize usr/bin/calibre-debug usr/bin/calibre-parallel usr/bin/calibre-server usr/bin/calibre-smtp usr/bin/calibredb usr/bin/ebook-convert usr/bin/ebook-device usr/bin/ebook-edit usr/bin/ebook-meta usr/bin/ebook-polish usr/bin/ebook-viewer usr/bin/fetch-ebook-metadata usr/bin/lrf2lrs usr/bin/lrfviewer usr/bin/lrs2lrf usr/bin/markdown-calibre usr/bin/web2disk usr/share/applications/calibre-gui.desktop] ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-2.16-lowlatency 4.4.0 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-2-lowlatency i686 ApportVersion: 2.19.4-0ubuntu2 Architecture: i386 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sat Mar 26 12:41:45 2016 InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-01-08 (77 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release i386 (20140722.2) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: calibre UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to xenial on 2016-02-06 (48 days ago) ** Affects: calibre (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 third-party-packages xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Edubuntu Bugsquad, which is subscribed to calibre in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1562291 Title: Calibre starts and screws up the graphical user interface To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calibre/+bug/1562291/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~edubuntu-bugs Post to : edubuntu-bugs@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~edubuntu-bugs More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Edubuntu-bugs] [Bug 1562291] Re: Calibre starts and screws up the graphical user interface
I tried the following, inspired by one of the comments in another bug report. In a terminal I ran the following commands: sudo rm -fr /opt/calibre sudo rm -fr ~/.config/calibre After that I manually removed calibre from the desktop starter bar. After that I did an install from the Calibre website https://calibre- ebook.com/download_linux and ran the command headlined "binary install" in a terminal: sudo -v && wget -nv -O- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/kovidgoyal/calibre/master/setup/linux- installer.py | sudo python -c "import sys; main=lambda:sys.stderr.write('Download failed\n'); exec(sys.stdin.read()); main()" After that all seems fine now.. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Edubuntu Bugsquad, which is subscribed to calibre in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1562291 Title: Calibre starts and screws up the graphical user interface To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calibre/+bug/1562291/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~edubuntu-bugs Post to : edubuntu-bugs@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~edubuntu-bugs More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
