[Dx-packages] [Bug 1296431] Re: Phone doesn't alert user of critical power situations

2014-04-11 Thread Pat McGowan
Would be nice to provide this, just hit the update button prior to an emergency
shutdown on the nexus.
The design says warn at 20% on phone, that seems quite high since it should be
as long as a days use remaining.

Phone doesn't alert user of critical power situations

Status in “indicator-power” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The phone doesn't currently alert the user when the battery is critical.
This leads to power loss at times and the user doesn't know it's about to
happen or had happened.
e.g. during a call, or while listening to music. Also if the phone is sat on
the desk unplugged from power connection.

Unity does not get touch events when SDK apps running

Status in OEM Priority Project:

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When running an SDK app on the desktop, it's not possible to use the
touchscreen to move windows, use the launcher, etc. The SDK app seems
  to consume all touchscreen events.

  To reproduce:
  1) On a desktop/laptop with a touchscreen (I am using a Dell XPS13), install
14.04 and check that the touchscreen works for moving windows
  2) Install the camera-app package from universe (I have
2.9.1+14.04.20140331-0ubuntu1)
  3) Launch the camera app
  4) Touch once inside the camera-app window
  5) Use the touchscreen to drag the camera-app window

  Expected results:
You can move the camera-app window using the touchscreen

  Actual results:
You cannot move the camera-app window, or perform any other touch tasks in
unity, with the touchscreen

This only affects touchscreen input - mouse/touchpad input is not
  affected

This affects all apps written with the SDK (I tried camera-app,
  gallery-app, reminders-app). It's 100% reproducible.

Re: [Dx-packages] [Bug 1338939] Re: Alarms go off 3 times on mako and flo

2014-07-11 Thread Pat McGowan
In my case,
- the same event goes off twice in succession. (like a few secs after
dismissing the first one the second appears)
- There is only one event instance shown in the indicator
- All events are notified twice.
- These were all sync'd from google.

  1. Access any of the brightness sliders: in System Settings > "Brightness",
or System Settings > "Battery", or the Battery menu (bug 1289470).
  2. Rapidly slide the slider from minimum to maximum and back again, about ten
times, then let go.
  3. Wait.

What happens: The phone repeatedly dims and brightens over several
seconds after you stop touching the slider.

What should happen: The current brightness level is always either on,
or less than ~500 ms from reaching, the brightness shown by the slider
*right now*. Any values that the slider was on previously should be
  ignored.

Compare bug 1306499, the equivalent problem with the volume slider.

  cairo-dock-plug-ins: needs rebuilding
  gnome-applets - patch at bgo:730588

mate: all mate packages need rebuilding
  python-dbusmock: lp:1324791
sugar: Upstream bug now filed. Unlikely to be ready in time for 14.10. We

wmbattery: needs removal. orphaned upstream/debian and doesn't work with new

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1367818] Re: [indicator] + [dialog] Silent Mode causes no indication of a change in [icon] state.

2015-04-16 Thread Pat McGowan
When silent mode is enabled the icon in the top panel changes to show that mode
Users were forgetting they enabled silent mode

The icon does not change when muted. One could argue it should also
change in that case but that was not the design direction that was
understood. I assume that is because increasing volume will rectify that
when actively using the phone, whereas with silent mode you can miss
calls and texts.

With autobrigthness enabled we need to define the behavior for what
happens when the user tries to use the slider:

1 - it works but auto is still on and will reset it
2 - it signals user wants manual settings so disable auto
3 - the slider is disabled but reflects current brightness value

in #unity-api, mzanetti reports that alarms on a ubuntu-touch/rc-
proposed/bq-aquaris.en are not showing up at the right time; rather,
they're skewed by timezone. He's in UTC+2 and set a 6:30 alarm that
  didn't go off until 8:30.

Alesage in Orlando is also reporting missing alarms when he tests on
  arale.

When I test on a fresh flash of ubuntu-touch/rc-proposed/bq-aquaris.en

odd though is when I apt-get source that version of indicator-datetime

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1450894] Re: [Indicators] Messaging indicator does not indicate that there is a new message

2015-06-01 Thread Pat McGowan
Seems that since the led flashes blue for new messages it would be consistent
to use blue in the indicator
Also the indicators are not all moochromatic as the battery still changes to
green to indicate charging so it seems this would not violate some policy
unless the battery is also due for change of some sort.
A number of users were confused by the change to remove color

Since we now know the led was blue to match the original indicator
color, which then changed to green then white then back to green, I
suggest we now make the indicator green as well.

This is a wishlist bug to eventually remove GTK3 from Ubuntu Phone

  -- gnome-control-center-signon --
Since libaccount-plugin-1.0-0 is included on Ubuntu Phone images, would it be
possible to refactor it so that it would not depend on GTK3 bringing it on the
images?

  -- address-book-service --
address-book-service depends on evolution-data-server, which depends on GTK3.
evolution-data-server further depends on libgweather-3-6 and libgcr-ui-3-1
which both directly depend on GTK3 too.

Would it be possible to work with libfolks-eds25 and other libraries
alone? Or would it be possible to modify evolution-data-server
building to not depend on GTK3 since we're not using the toolkit
  anyway?

  -- themes (unity-asset-pool, adwaita-icon-theme...) --

  humanity-icon-theme, ubuntu-mono and unity-asset-pool depend on
  adwaita-icon-theme. adwaita-icon-theme directly depends on GTK3.

  -- ubuntu-system-settings --

ubuntu-system-settings depends on libtimezonemap1 which directly
depends on GTK3. Maybe the library could be made not to depend on
  GTK3?

Bug description:
This is a wishlist bug to eventually remove GTK3 from Ubuntu Phone
  images to save some space.

  -- gnome-control-center-signon --
Since libaccount-plugin-1.0-0 is included on Ubuntu Phone images, would it be
possible to refactor it so that it would not depend on GTK3 bringing it on the
images?

  -- address-book-service --
address-book-service depends on evolution-data-server, which depends on GTK3.
evolution-data-server further depends on libgweather-3-6 and libgcr-ui-3-1
which both directly depend on GTK3 too.

Would it be possible to work with libfolks-eds25 and other libraries
alone? Or would it be possible to modify evolution-data-server
building to not depend on GTK3 since we're not using the toolkit
  anyway?

  -- themes (unity-asset-pool, adwaita-icon-theme...) --

  humanity-icon-theme, ubuntu-mono and unity-asset-pool depend on
  adwaita-icon-theme. adwaita-icon-theme directly depends on GTK3.

  -- ubuntu-system-settings --

ubuntu-system-settings depends on libtimezonemap1 which directly
depends on GTK3. Maybe the library could be made not to depend on
  GTK3?

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1396986] Re: System Settings > Sound > Ringer volume - only changes ringer volume when no other sounds playing

2015-07-24 Thread Pat McGowan
The design is at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Sound#Phone

We need to enhance the volume controls a great deal, the primary control
is supposed to be labeled based on the active role.

We currently have no way to affect the alert volume. Its far to brief a
tone to control during an alert and should have a permanent control in
the panel imo.

In fact it would be much clearer to have 4 controls in settings one for
each mode - alarm, alert, multimedia, and phone (which I assume means
ringtone). so the user could both check and control the levels.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1283065] [NEW] Use the existing audio stack to play event sounds

2014-02-21 Thread Pat McGowan
Public bug reported:

This merge introduced several new packages in order to produce sounds on
calendar events
https://code.launchpad.net/~charlesk/indicator-datetime/alarms/+merge/204420

We should rather use existing APIs in QtMultimedia or go directly to the media
service in the platform api.
- reduce number of packages supported
- allow coordination for audio playback from multiple sources
- support multiple encoding formats

2014-02-21 Thread Pat McGowan
Defintiely agree not to add a new large dependency. Please check the media-hub
then for suitability.
I did not see any dependency into gstreamer so was concerned, also added
libvorbis decoder.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1283236] Re: Alarm is shown with an incorrect time and does not trigger

2014-02-23 Thread Pat McGowan
It seems some layer is interpreting the alarm time being requested as
UTC instead of the local timezone, thereby scheduling it 5 hrs too far
ahead. It looks like clock and the alarm api expect localtime although
this is not explicit in the API doc.

We should ensure that timezone changes are reacted to properly for saved
alarms. Perhaps all alarms should be saved in UTC and converted as
appropriate.
