Bug description:
When I switch between windows, or switch between tabs in the same
window, or switch desktops, part or all of the affected windows often
fail to repaint (or repaint and then revert to "stale" content).
Unfocusing/refocusing the affected window usually forces it to repaint
again (but may then leave another window "stale").

It doesn't seem toolkit-specific (happens with xchat, firefox, chrome,
  skype, gnome-terminal, ...).

Attached is a screenshot showing an example of corruption after
switching between two tabs in xchat.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1206203] [NEW] gnome-calculator disapear when I switch (alt+tab) to others

2015-09-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

When I start gnome calculator, this one doesn't appear on launcher (strange)
So when I switch other application with alt-tab shortcut I can't retrieve it !

I had to minimize all applications to see my calculator. (In my case, I
recovered 7 calculators because of my tests :p)

  To reproduce:

  1. Have a dual head system with nvidia/twinview.
  2. Open a window on leftmost/primary monitor.
  3. Drag window to right edge of rightmost/secondary monitor.

The window goes half-maximized on the left monitor instead of the
right monitor. This doesn't happen when dragging to the top or left of
the rightmost monitor. If you drag the half-maximized window directly
over to the right edge again, it maximizes correctly. See attached
  video...

Bug description:
Grid plugin inst working as it should .

The experience is not even close to what we get from other OS ( Ms
  windows 7 ) .

Im speaking like the bug is already confirmed because i got this one
in every pc with ubuntu that im using with different hardware
configurations. ( nvidia , ati , intel , blah blah ) so i know its
there . It was affecting oneiric and still affecting precise.

This should be consider as a feature not enabled by default because
the experience is very bad (until is fixed).

The grid is not enabled every time a window touch an side , it feels
very random no matter how fast you are approaching the side or how
many pixels are you pushing further of the screen edge. If you can
manage to initiate grid most of the time instead of actual maximize
the window you are only get the shadow effect maximized and stuck
  there.

Im attaching a video with the problem because its a bit complicate to
  explain .

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1482181] Re: Media keys (ctrl-alt-t, brightness, play/pause) don't work randomly after logging

2015-09-25 Thread Didier Roche
I'm getting it for a couple of releases. It was one on 10 login before.
It seems recently, it's one every 4 of them, so quite high in term of
frequency.

monitoring and pressing a media key gives:
signal time=1443171424.483295 sender=:1.28 -> destination=(null destination)
serial=7116 path=/org/gnome/Shell; interface=org.gnome.Shell;
member=AcceleratorActivated
   uint32 33
   uint32 0
   uint32 9782134

So, the signal is sent.

I checked, and I have u-s-d running.

Note that this started at least in 14.10.

Restarting Unity "fixes" it (or logging out/logging back), so it seems
a race between Unity and settings daemon at startup.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1158183] Re: Pressing alt + tab quickly, but alt-tab window appears

2015-09-25 Thread Treviño
Well, basically right now there are about 80ms to show the window, so it
really depends in how fast you are.

In generally showing the view quickly is good (as if you want it to be
presented is not nice to have a longer timeout), while it's not possible
to predict what kind of switching the user will be, and thus showing it
for a few ms before closing it again, IMHO is better than waiting longer
to see it when you want that.

Maybe we might make those timeouts tunable from settings, though.

Bug description:
Summary: Unity 3D desktop crashes in Oneiric using ATI Mbility Radeon
  X1600

  Problem:
There doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason to this, be it having Firefox
running, opening a link in Chromium to open in a new tab or watching a .flv
video clip, using the subcontextual menus of Thunderbird, or watching videos in
Totem. The desktop crashes bringing one to the login screen. Sometimes the
desktop crashes as it's appearing.

The last thing one sees is a black screen with text, and something
about Pulseaudio, but I'm not sure it's an error as I see no red text
(just white), and there's no time to read it before the login screen
  appears.

  Steps to reproduce:
  Login using Unity 3d.
  Use your system.

  Results
  The desktop crashes

  Comments:
At one point I thought the problem was due to indicator-weather, but I
removed it, and although crashes became less frequent, they increased
drastically two days ago (after updating).

This behaviour was non-existent in Natty.

I went a whole day without this behaviour by logging in using Unity
2D, and went along using all the above apps to no crashes.

I noticed there is a history of problems with Radeon video drivers,
but they didn't describe this type of crash, and they seemed to be
fixed in Natty, which makes me think it might not be a regression.

The only other issue I can think of that might be related is that
turning compiz plugins on and off (Widgets Layer, and Zoom Desktop),
presumably the non-default one, crashes Unity. I looked into it and
sources say that this could be an issue with my video card, which I
find outrageous considering it's only a few years old (well within the
5 year margin for compiz support), which points to a faulty driver
and/or lack of proper driver support.

System Info lists my graphics support as Gallium 0.4 on ATI RV530. I
found that odd. Wikipedia says that the my video card, although based
on the RV530, is NOT the ATI RV530. So, I don't know if it's a matter
of the wrong driver being assigned and there's no longer a Xorg.conf
file to check, so I'm at a loss.

I'm assuming the issue is related to Compiz, but I'm not 100% sure.
When I'm switching workspaces, it occasionally locks up (becoming more
frequent). Most of the time, I'm going from the current one down
(Ctrl+Alt+Down Arrow), and it freezes mid slide. Typically, I'm able
to correct things by backing out to a terminal then returning
(Ctrl+Alt+F1, pause, Alt+F7), but sometimes when I return the dual
screen setup acts as one large screen (windows are stretched to the
full width of both screens) and many of the windows collect on the
  first workspace.

  Ubuntu 11.04 (Classic)
  All packages up-to-date.

If there are any logs/etc that would be helpful, let me know.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1455835] Re: Assignment of multiple navigation keybindings does not work

2015-09-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker

Title:
Assignment of multiple navigation keybindings does not work

Status in Unity:
  New
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Using gsettings/dconf on the command-line it should, in principle, be
possible to assign multiple keybindings to each action in the
"windows" and "navigation" groups, since the keys in
  org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings are lists.

  For example:
  Action:
  In a terminal enter:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings close "['Pause', 'F4']"

  Expected result:
Pressing either Pause or Alt-F4 results in the current window being closed.

  Actual result:
Pressing Pause (i.e. the first keybinding in the list) closes the current
window but Alt-F4 has no effect.

  Present in Ubuntu 15.04.

(This bug is not very important, since the graphical "System settings >
keyboard > Shortcuts" permits only the definition of one keybinding per action.
However, the desired functionality (allowing multiple keybindings) is more
logical and should work according to the wiki page:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Keybindings
  (section org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings).
Also, in GNOME-shell, the definition of multiple keybindings via gsettings
does work.)

[Clock] Should be able to silence alarm using power button

Status in Ubuntu Clock App:
  Incomplete
Status in Ubuntu UX:

Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  krillin @rtm #16

  Reproduce:
  1. Set alarm
  2. Let alarm go off, but do not turn it off immediately—do not touch the
phone surface, wait until the screen goes black
  3. Try to disable alarm

  What happens:
You need to turn on screen, press "OK" on alarm

  What should have happened:
I should be able to silence the alarm using the power button. On iOS and
Android power button enable snooze to prevent accidential disabling alarm.

Rationale: I set two alarms on weekdays, one at 07:07 and one at
09:07. When I wake up at 07:07 and go to school, the 09:07 alarm goes
off during class. Removing the phone from my pocket, swiping,
unlocking and dismissing the alarm, always takes about 3-4 rings.

Also when someone forget phone in the office, then it will be no
  possibility to disable alarm.

  Related to bug 1340329.

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  On ubuntu 14.04 64bits
  unity 7.2.2+14.04.20140714-0ubuntu1

When opening/closing multiple windows of the same application, the indicator
of the number of open windows in the sidebar (that can be 1,2 or 3 arrows)
doesn't refresh immediately.
To get it refreshed, one has to switch the focus to another application and
then back to the original application.

  How to reproduce:
  - close all windows of the "files" application
  - open a new one ; the icon highlights indicating 1 window
  - open yet another one (right click, new window) ; the icon still indicates
one window
  - switch the focus to another application ; the icon of the "files"
application now indicates 2 windows
  - close *the original* "files" windows (otherwise works properly) ; the icon
still indicates 2 windows

would need to fix anything. Please check the instructions before
reporting any further bugs. Thanks!

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1437598] Re: Sound-Indicator should provide more advanced options

The opposite of this bug report is bug 1441819, "The sound indicator is
a bit cluttered".

Title:
Sound-Indicator should provide more advanced options

Status in indicator-sound package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Device: BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition
  OS: Ubuntu 14.10 (r20)

I really love the new experience with the scrollable indicators at the
top panel. They give the possibility to have a lot more room for each
category while being easily accesible. This is why each indicator
should take advantage of this and put all the screen size into good
use. Sound indicator is one of those. I'll explain:

When you scroll down the sound indicator, it just gives you the option
of "volume" level. But this is a bit confusing as you don't actually
know if you are changing the volume for incoming calls, notifications,
music/games, alarms... So I think this should be "expanded" and
provide different controls for each category (as I show in the mockup
  pic I attach).

If this was implemented, the user would be able to easily change the
volume and vibrating for each type of alert: calls, notifications,
media and alarms. Easy on the eye, accesible with one touch even from
blocked device. Simple. No need for complex "Priority" or "At work" or
any other modes as in other OS.

Activating "Silence mode" button would just make the four categories
mute and vibrating-less, and inactivating the button the controls
would just revert to their last previous state. If from silence mode
you activate one vibration or level up some volume, the button would
automatically turn off as there is no silence mode any more.

Hope you can implement something like this soon in future system
updates, since it's really needed to make basic sound settings much
more clear and easy for the eye. As Shuttleworth would say, "Sound
  settings at your fingertips" :)

[Dx-packages] [Bug 652978] Re: Notify-OSD should be suppressed when using the sound menu

2015-09-25 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
** No longer affects: indicator-sound

** No longer affects: ayatana-design

** Description changed:

When using the sound menu, the user is immediately visually notified
about switching of tracks by the menu itself.

  +

When notifying using Notify-OSD, it covers some parts of sound menu
itself. I think Notify-OSD should not be shown when switching tracks
using the sound-menu and MAY BE whenever switching manually.

  Example video:
  http://dl.dropbox.com/u/275756/out.ogv

-
  PS:
U1 was not working, so dropbox. :)
and yes, I did spend like 10 minutes thinking which songs I should show in
the video. :P
+
+ The equivalent for the volume slider is bug 1389761.

   * Use either the hardware buttons or the slider on the sound indicator to
modify sound level
   * Drop the sound to minimum

  Expected result:
   - the sound level icons used on the indicator and on the OSD popup should
match so the user has a consistent understanding of the state of the phone

  Actual result:
   - At minimum the OSD popup shows a speaker next a cross whereas on the
indicator it is a speaker next to dark grey segments (a speaker with a cross is
used to indicator silent mode)

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1449794] Re: Week day and Date & Month not working on menu bar on upgrade to 14.10

2015-09-25 Thread Rodney
For the first question:

Ahh. The locale setting does make a difference. I normally have
/etc/default/locale set as:

LANG="C"

If I set it to:

LANG="en_US.utf8"

it solves this problem, but I set it to "C" on purpose, as I don't
care for the sort sequences (for instance of an "ls -l" command) if it
is set to "en_US.utf8" -- it intersperses lowercase & uppercase and "/."
files according to the first alphabetical character in the file name w/o
regard to the case. The collating sequence of "C" seems more sensible
to me.

For the 2nd question:

No, I cannot do a screenshot. I tried the application "Screenshot", but
the very first line in the screenshot (of the graphical screen), where
the title bar is, it does not show the information that is on the right
side of that line, like: 1) The up/down arrows to get to the networks,
the language setting, the speaker volume, the date/time/etc, the
settings icon. And, it is the date/time displayed right there that I am
talking about.

Title:
Week day and Date & Month not working on menu bar on upgrade to 14.10

Status in Unity:
  Incomplete
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I recently upgraded from 12.04 to 14.10 (had to first upgrade to a
prior 14.?? version first), and then later on to 15.04 (see below). On
the far right-side of the top bar of the graphical screen, I
previously had displayed the date & time, weekday, and date/month
(without clicking on it and it displaying the full calendar). With the
upgrade most of that is now gone and I can only see the time on the
menu bar. If I go into System Settings --> Time & Date -- Clock, I see
that in the "In the clock, show:" grouping of properties "Weekday" and
"Date and month" are unchecked. Towards the top the "Show a clock in
the menu bar" is checked, and I also have "12-hour time" checked.

I want the "Weekday" and "Date and month" checked so that they will
show on the menu bar, but when I check either or both of them, the
clock goes away right then -- that is, it doesn't show the time that
it was showing just moments ago, nor does it display anything about
the date or time. As soon as I uncheck both "Weekday" and "Date and
month" the time will show right back up, with no delay.

  I have updated/upgraded/reinstalled indicator-datetime, removed it and
installed it again, "dpkg-reconfigure" the package, each time doing a
"killall unity-panel-service" to restart the service, and even
  rebooted some times.

Nothing seems to help -- If one of those 2 settings (or both) are
checked all date/time settings go away on the menu bar.

The above is for my regular login account. I created a "Guest
Session", of which it creates a temporary login in /tmp, and saw that
it deleted it when I logged out of it. It did the same as my normal
log ID did -- that is, only the time showed up on the menu bar, and
when I went to clock settings and changed the "Weekday" / "Date &
  Month" settings, the clock disappeared.

I did a fresh install of ubuntu 14.10 on another machine after I did
this upgrade. The fresh install was on a Win computer that I resized
the Win partition on. It does the same thing as the upgrade I talked
  about above.

I first posed the above as a question, and no one was able to help me,
and they said I probably should report a bug, but I might want to wait
until 15.04 was released and I upgraded. I have now upgraded to 15.04
on both of my computers, and they still do the same thing.

I have encountered another problem with the "Time & Date Settings". I
have my location set up as "Chicago". I noticed that when you go into
the "Clock" tab, you can set up additional "Locations". I set up an
additional location for "UTC". Both of these times display when you
click on the clock on the top menu bar and it pops up the Calendar.
They display at the bottom. It works fine for most of the time. "UTC"
is (now) 5 hours ahead of "Chicago" time. When "Chicago" time reads
18:59 UTC reads 23.59. "Chicago" clicks over to 19:00 and "UTC"
clicks over to the next day, the "UTC" time then disappears. I take
it that it disappears until "Chicago" time clicks over to the next
day, so that "Chicago" and "UTC" are then on the same day again.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1301776] Re: Update manager is really small and not resizeable

2015-09-25 Thread Jason
I don't know why this bug was only fixed in unity and not in update-
manager, but here's a workaround for those of us not using unity (since
all the other workarounds posted here don't work):

sudo apt-get install wmctrl
wmctrl -F -r "Software Updater" -e 0,0,10,600,700

  [ Test Case ]

Run the Ubuntu update manager and attempt to resize the window. See
  above.

  [ Regression Potential ]

Any code change to the Unity desktop shell has the potential to
  introduce new crashes or lockups.

  [ Additional Info ]

The Unity SRU fix for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS was cherry-picked from Ubuntu
14.10 where it has been in production use for some time without
  apparent regressions.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1396553] Re: No rating and 0 reviews shown for all applications in the dash

2015-09-25 Thread Kiwinote
This has been broken for quite a while - there are two parts to this:

--> UNITY_LENS_APPLICATIONS
Unity-lens-applications reads a Berkeley DB file which is generated by
software-center. The filename contains the version number of libdb. In February
2012 the transition [0] to libdb5.1 was done, in November 2013 there was a
transition [1] to libdb5.3, but the filename was not updated, which means that
since then the source code of unity-lens-applications had had a wrong filename
in line 42 of src/unity-ratings-db.c [2].

[0]
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~unity-team/unity-lens-applications/trunk/revision/17.1.166
[1]
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~unity-team/unity-lens-applications/trunk/revision/375
[2]
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~unity-team/unity-lens-applications/trunk/view/head:/src/unity-ratings-db.c

--> SOFTWARE_CENTER
Upon launching software-center, software-center generates a file for
unity-lens-applications to read. For at least a year, if not multiple years,
software-center crashes whilst trying to generate this db. The crash occurs in
line 336 of [3] with "DBInvalidArgError: (22, 'Invalid argument -- BDB0054
illegal flag combination specified to DB_ENV->open')". Experimentation seems to
show that removing the "|bdb.DB_NOMMAP" stops this crash. The NOMMAP flag was
introduced in [4], but I don't know enough about the Berkeley DB format to know
why the NOMMAP flag should or shouldn't be in use. The internet seems to
describe the flag as "Always copy read-only database files in this environment
into the local cache instead of potentially mapping them into process memory".
I couldn't pull up any other illegal flag combinations using NOMMAP errors
besides software-center.

[3]
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntuone-control-tower/software-center/trunk/view/2869/softwarecenter/backend/reviews/__init__.py
[4]
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntuone-control-tower/software-center/trunk/revision/2434

After installing a modified version of unity-lens-applications and
changing software-center and launching software-center I needed to kill
the unity-scope-loader process after which the ratings reappeared in the
dash (obviously only for apps which have ratings, which are not the
newest ones).

Another issue affecting the applications lens is the missing
applications descriptions due to bug #1486061

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  case A:
I want to access an item of a submenu of a menu of an application. That is,
menu Foo->bar->something

  Case B:
by right-clicking on something, I want to access an item of a submenu of the
context menu, for example in Nautilus: right-click on a file -> open with ->
someApplication

So, I unfold the first level menu (of an application) or the context
menu (by right-clicking), I move the mouse cursor onto the menu item
so that the final submenu unfolds, and I CLICK on the submenu parent
item (e.g. I click on "open with" from the context menu).

EXPECTED (and how it used to work):
By clicking on the item that unfolds the submenu (e.g. "open with"), as
opposed to simply hovering over it, the submenu should remain open, even if you
accidentally move the cursor out of the submenu's parent item before you reach
the area in the desired submenu.

  OBSERVED (since recently):
Clicking as you navigate through the hierarchy doesn't change the behavior.
Whether you click or not, in order to reach the final submenu and the desired
item within it, you have to carefully move the cursor in an almost perfectly
horizontal direction to the right, without going the slightest bit out the area
of the submenu's parent item. Otherwise, the submenu will disappear before you
reach it.

For example, if the final item in the submenu you want to reach is the
third, it is very likely that, after hovering (and clicking) on the
menu item that opens the final submenu, you will move in diagonal
downwards-rightwards, and in this trajectory you'll exit the area of
the menu item that unfolded the submenu, making the submenu disappear
  before you reach it.

Usually, this happened only if you only moved the mouse through the
menu items and submenus without clicking. But when you clicked on an
item that would unfold a submenu, that submenu would remain more
"sticky", allowing for more freedom of movement, and remaining open
even if moving out of it (until you clicked somewhere else, and
perhaps also when you moved far enough from it).

So, if you were super-precise and/or slow enough in your movements, you could
reach the desired item in the sub-sub-menu by simply moving the mouse without
clicking, but if you wanted to reach it quickly and carelessly, you could just
click on each item of the hierarchy you were traversing.
Which is what I used to do, because I like to navigate through menus quicky
and without having to train myself to move my hand with surgical precision.

Cool.

Now, Wily isn't released yet, and 15.04 won't reach its end of life
until january, so the fix should be backported to 15.04
