DeeModel should have a simple transaction concept. We'll build this
around what DeeSharedModel already uses under the hood, which should
  make it straight forward.

The concrete plan is to implement a DeeChangeSet which extends
DeeSerializableModel. This will in essence be like a "patch" you can
apply to any old model with the correct schema.

Doing it this way also makes DeeSharedModel more deeply testable, so
it's not only the more advanced API that is the benefit here.

The list of installed apps is no longer in ascending sort order. They

  This makes viewing very difficult.

Searching is an option, but only if you know the name of the desired
  app.

Bring back the sort order for personal productivity.

Bug description:
DeeSequenceModel falls back to the default impls of the type specific
  getters; dee_model_get_bool(), dee_model_get_*(), ... . These are
implemented in DeeSerializableModel using a generic
dee_model_get_value() call that twiddles the ref count on the
variants. There is no need for this when doing it internally in the
DeeSequenceModel, and we should add optimized impls of these functions
since they are a *very* common code path.

Methods using Dee.ModelTag are bound using void*, which makes mem-
management very difficult (in vala terms). The class should be defined
  as a generic one.

As an example currently it's not really straightforward how to put an
owned string to a tag, one would probably use:

  unowned Dee.ModelTag tag = model.register_tag (GLib.free);
  model.set_tag (iter, tag, "foo".dup ());
  debug ("%s", (string) model.get_tag (iter, tag));

But the variable with "foo" is freed right after the set_tag call.

  (cutting and pasting from
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1981201)

From a 32-bit PrecicePangolin laptop running a vnc client
(RemoteDesktopViewer), I am connecting to a vnc4server running
on a 64-bit PrecisePangolin machine. (virtual machine running under Xen 4.1).

When I connect via VNC, I can see the Unity launcher and top menu bar.
But if I try to drag an application from the Dash/Search application
to the Unity launcher, it doesn't stick.
I can't add an App to the Unity Launcher.

But I am able to right click an icon in the Unity Launcher and choose
  "Unlock from Launcher" successfully.
So I am able to delete Apps from the Unity Launcher.
(the deletion is persistent on the actual Console after logging out then
  back in again.)

FYI: I have the same results when going from a 64-bit LucidLynx
RemoteDesktopViewer client, to the 32-bit vnc4server PrecisePangolin
  laptop.

FYI: I am able to connect to a 64-bit vnc4server LucidLynx machine
and add an application to the quick launch section on the top menu bar
which is also noticable on the real Console of that machine (after logging in
and then out).
I thing that is a comparable test that shows the console should be alterable
via VNC.

Summary: Can anyone change the Unity Launcher on PrecisePangolin
via any VNC Server product (preferably vnc4server).

I think that it would be really good if there was not just an auto-

'off'. For this is the reason why I moved away from Unity and to GNOME
because I wanted to replace the Unity Launcher properly with Docky,
but as there was no proper way of doing this I had to move away from
Unity to properly achieve this, but I would have very happily stayed
if there was just an option not to use the default built-in Unity
Launcher, so I propose a new feature that would allow for you to turn
the Unity Launcher off if you want to use another docking program
  instead of it.

Bug description:
Usually under unity when having switching back to an application that
has more windows open then unity switches to the last one that had the
focus before leaving the application focus.

Behaviour on Nautilus is different when a copy operation is ongoing.

  Steps to reproduce:
  a) Open two Nautilus windows.
  b) Initiate a longer copy operation from one to the other (to have enough
time to test).
  c) Make sure that the copy progress window is in the foreground and has the
focus.
  d) Switch to a different application.
  e) Switch back to Nautilus.

Desires effect: Copy dialog on top and being the active window.
Current effect: One of the Nautilus folder windows is brought to foreground.

As a small progress indicator is displayed on the unity launcher for
Nautilus it seems to be clear that the copy progress window belongs to
Nautilus. Hence the expected behaviour when clicking on the Nautilus
launcher is to bring the previously active and front progress window
  back.

firefox profile launched from second launcher combines with first

Status in Unity:

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I have created a second launcher for firefox (for launching an
alternate profile) and pinned it to the unity bar. I also modified
the original slightly so that I can run both profiles at once. The
two launchers run the following commands:

  firefox %u -P default -no-remote
  firefox -P Bjorn -no-remote

up until a recent update (I think in the last week, but I'm not sure),
this worked great; each launcher worked independant of the other,
launching the intended instance if it wasn't already running, and
switching to it if it was. Now suddenly when I click the second one
(Bjorn profile), it launches the correct instance, but the small arrow
that's normally to the left of the launcher indicating an open
window/running instance is instead shown next to the first launcher
  (for the default profile).

This is rather inconvenient as if the default profile instance isn't
already running, I can no longer use that launcher to launch it
because it simply activates/focuses the already open window from the
second profile. As a workaround I currently always launch the default
profile first, and then the other (so I now have two arrows to the
left of the default launcher - as illustrated in the attached
screenshot), but it's still inconvenient because it's now two clicks
to switch; click on the default launcher and then choose the window I
want. Clicking on the second launcher just informs me that "Firefox
is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you
must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your
  system."

The expected behavior, I believe, is that a launched application
should always get associated with the launcher it was started from (as
  it used to).

Bug description:
Users trying to report a bug on unity when it comes from a ppa such as
ppa:sil2100/quantal (currently at version 6.0.0-0ubuntu5~test1) get an
ugly error from apport, then if they try the fallback method get an
ugly error from launchpad. See for instance bug 1024836 comment 3,
which also involves further apport fallout on quantal.

This is because launchpad enforces tags are in a particular form:

"Tags must start with a letter or number and be lowercase. The
characters "+", "-" and "." are also allowed after the first
  character."

However, debian policy also allows ":" and "~" in package versions:

The unity apport hook should either not add the version as a tag (it
appears prominently in the Package field anyway, along with a
reference to ppa origin), or should ensure the tag is in fact valid.

Bug description:
This failure occurred while testing unity 5.14.0+bzr2400ubuntu0+704
from the Unity SRU channel PPA. It could not be reproduced after
  reverting back to 5.14.0-0ubuntu1.

  [Test Case]
Test Launcher with Chromium Web apps

This tests shows the integration of unity with the Chromium Web Apps

  Setup:
   * Open Chromium and go to a website, say ubuntu.com
   * Go to the menu "File" -> "Create Application Shortcuts..."
   * Select the checkbox "Applications Menu" (you can deselect the "Desktop"
one)
   * A new window is opened, and the launcher will continue matching it like a
 chromium application.
   * Close the chromium window.

  Actions:
   * Open the dash and search for "chrom"
   * An application called "Home | Ubuntu" should be shown
   * Launch it

  Expected Results:
   * The launcher will show an icon for the "Home | Ubuntu" application

  (remainder of test ommitted)

  Actual Outcome:
The web app window was created and a new chromium-browser icon was inserted
in the launcher. A search for "chrom" in the dash only found chromium-browser.
Once the Ubuntu web app was closed, there was no way to restart it from the
dash or launcher.

causes context menus to show up, the configure KTorrent window works.
However, after closing that window/context menu/etc. and then
minimizing and subsequently restoring the window, anything that was
opened before no longer opens properly. Anything that was not opened
  before is still fine.

When right-clicking for a context menu, the GUI seems to recognize
that the user is trying to open a context menu and behaves as if one
did open. It highlights the torrent, and then clicking empty white
space one keeps the torrent highlighted (as if the user just closed
the context menu), and then deselects the torrent after a second
  click.

The problem persists until KTorrent is fully closed (not just the
window). A fresh start restores everything.

Note: This problem does not occur if the user closes the KTorrent
window instead of minimizing. At the same time, the problem persists
if the user only closes the window.

  Reproducible: Always

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Start up KTorrent. Open the Configure KTorrent dialog box, or right-click
a torrent to bring up a context menu.
  2. Close the dialog box or context menu. I use the Cancel button for the
settings dialog, but I don't think it should make a difference.
  3. Minimize KTorrent to the task bar (don't close the window). Restore it.
Try to open the Configure window or context menu again.
  Actual Results:
If the Configure KTorrent window was opened before minimizing, it will not
open anymore. If a torrent was right-clicked and the context menu shown, doing
so will not open the context menu after minimizing and restoring.

  Expected Results:
The Configure KTorrent window and any context menus should show up as per
normal.

I started with Ubuntu 11.04 on this computer and have upgraded through
11.10 and now 12.04. The problem has been persistent throughout.

There is no special configuration that I'm using, and there are no
proprietary drivers installed. It is just the default Ubuntu
  installation with the Unity desktop.

I have a lot of background programs running but I don't think they
  should be causing the problem.

  CPU/Graphics: Intel i5 2400 with HD Graphics 3000.

Title:
right-click option "format" launches 2 instances of Nautilus when
  finished

Status in Unity:
  New
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
To format a USB pendrive, I usually right-click it on the unity bar
and select "Format...". This is very handy as it is a user-friendly
command to an otherwise more cumbersome manipulation in Disk Utility.
However when done, the script tries to launch Nautilus on the newly
formated USB pendrive. On my computer, this results to 2 instances of
Nautilus being launched instead of a single one. Both of them
correctly default to the Pendrive mount point.

  Steps to reproduce the bug:
  1) Insert the pendrive to format
  2) Right-click on its icon appearing in the Unity launch bar
  3) Select "Format..."
  4) Leave the default options, ie: FAT and New Volume
  5) Wait for the script to finish
  6) When done, 2 instances of Nautilus gets launched.

  Expected results:
  - Only one instance should be launched

ctrl+ shortcut in do not work with show cursor in certain apps

Status in gnome-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Problem:
When I enable 'Show position of pointer when the Control key is pressed' in
the settings->mouse menu, I can no longer use ctrl-X/C/V in chromium. The
showing of the cursor position deselects the inputbox.
Im pretty sure I have seen this behaviour in other apps too. Not only
chromium. Except for ubuntu-like apps, they work fine.
  Could it be Qt? GTK2?

Disabling the 'Show position of pointer..' function solves the issue
  and ctrl-C etc works again.

  Reproduce:
   * turn on 'show position of pointer...'
   * start chromium
   * navigate to website with inputbox
   * Select text
   * press ctrl-c to copy text
   * observe text being de-selected

Expected behaviour: Copy the selected text to clipboard
Observed behaviour: Selected text gets de-selected and does not get copied to
the clipboard.

Thank you for your bug report. That ticket is quite old and we didn't
get recent report of the problem, also it seems to work correctly now,
closing. Feel free to reopen if you can still reproduce in more recent

So using Ubuntu 12.04 and Unity3d, with all the latest updates, when
using the regular task switcher (alt + tab) everything is fine. But
when I start the switching with ALT+SHIFT+TAB, the windows are
changing ok, and after I land somewhere, the blinking cursor in all
editboxes will be invisible, or won't appear at all I don't know. That
state is present in all the currently open applications, not just the
one where I landed after switching windows. And it will last until I
close all these affected applications and reopen them.

When installing updates to a 12.10 beta release (i.e,. already on

the launcher bar are lost. I.e., I have added apps with the "lock to
launcher" option, but they don't survive the updates. This is true of
both native apps and web apps.

Expected behaviour? Configurations like this should be perserved
through updates (and upgrades, although at this point I can only
confirm that they are lost in updates. I suspect they are lost in
upgrades as well but am not in a position to check). Maintaining user
configurations is a long-standing Ubuntu precept, and thus I consider
this new behaviour a regression in addition to a bug.

Thanks Mateusz. The only right-click context menu I tested was the

I can confirm the behaviour you described with the right-click context
menu in Nautilus. Excellent description too, by the way.

Bug description:
Using the power cog menu to open System Settings works if it is either
not already open, or nothing has been selected. Otherwise, even if you
are in the main view, it will not appear, but the Unity Launcher entry
will instead get urgency (wiggle). This can be confusing and difficult
to notice since your eyes are drawn to the opposite side of the
screen. The effect is that it doesn't seem to do anything at all. Even
when you know that this is the case, it is actually quite difficult to
get used to, because it might be ten hours since you used the volume
control and now you can no longer open System Settings.

What I would like to happen, is that if you select Audio Settings from
the Audio Menu, then the System Settings dialog is opened or focused.
If you open the power cog menu and select System Settings, the System
Settings dialog is presented. This is not currently what happens. In
other words; it should not just launch. It should also Focus If Open.

Quick and easy steps to reproduce:

  1) Click the power cog and select System Settings.
  2) Click outside the System Settings dialog so that it is completely hidden
by a maximized window behind it.
  3) Perform step 1 again.
  4) Notice that System Settings is focused, as you would expect.

  5) Select an entry in the dialog, such as Sound.
  6) Hide the dialog again by clicking the maximized window as before.
  7) Open System Settings from the power cog again.
  8) Notice that this time, the dialog does not appear, but that the icon on
the launcher has urgency. (wiggles)

  9) Click the icon in the launcher to bring System Settings in focus.
  10) In the System Settings dialog, go back to the main view by using the
breadcrumbs.
  11) As before, hide System Settings by clicking on a maximized window in the
background.
  12) Reopen System Settings from the power cog.
  13) Notice that while the dialog looks identical to how it did in step 1, it
can no longer be reopened from the power cog.

As it is quite clear I can search using Applicazioni, but of course I would

My guess is that ' is not considered a bounduary word, which is wrong.

[regression] Remote login to Unity on quantal fails if the remote

Bug description:
After upgrading this computer from Ubuntu 12.04 Precise to Ubuntu
12.10 Quantal, I am no longer able to log in to it remotely with
vnc4server and use Unity. Upon connecting with VNC, I am presented
with the Unity greeter, and if I choose the default Unity session and
log in then I get a broken desktop. i.e., the Unity launcher and top
panel are missing, shortcuts don't work, etc.

If I understand correctly, this is because Unity 2D has been removed
in 12.10 and the fallback for situations without hardware acceleration
is supposed to be Gallium3D's LLVMpipe. However, proprietary graphics
drivers replace the Mesa libGL.so implementation, so using LLVMpipe is
not possible on machines with proprietary graphics drivers installed
and thus Unity/Compiz fails to run.

To solve this without reintroducing a fallback window manager, we
probably need the next-gen Linux OpenGL ABI to support side-by-side
libGL implementations from different vendors and auto-detect the
correct one to use in some way. See e.g.
  http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTE4NDA.

The work-around is to use GNOME Classic (without effects) instead of
  Unity.

Bug description:
  WHAT I DID:

I downloaded Zotero standalone from this page:
http://www.zotero.org/support/3.0#zotero_standalone
After opening the app via its executable, I locked it to the launcher by
right-clicking on its icon and selecting "lock to launcher".

  WHAT HAPPENED:
The icon was effectively locked to the launcher but jumped several positions
upwards (random number).
After closing the app, it wasn't possible to open it again from the launcher
(icon pulses but nothing happens).
Opening the app again from the original file would add a second identical
icon to the launcher.
After restarting the computer, the icon was lost.

  WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN:
The icon should be locked to the launcher at its actual position; it should
be able to use it to open the app again; and it should stay locked to it even
when the computer restarts.

I marked this as a regression as this wasn't a problem at all in
12.04: the icon would stay at its place, was able to launch the app,
and was still in the launcher at restart.

  Steps for reproducing this bug:
  - open a window
  - press ctrl-alt-number (on numpad), then the window will be placed on the
selected area
  - press super-s and select a different workspace

Expected behavior: the window does not appear on the other selected workplace.
What happened instead: the window appears on the other selected workplace.

The window follows the workplace selection only when it's done with super-s
or the "Select workspace" button. It works as expected when switching
workplaces with ctrl-alt-arrow keys.
When the window is grabbed out of the selected placement, then it stays on
the workplace where it has been grabbed out.

Bug description:
  hi

I`ve noticed that HUD is not displaying all available options
sometimes. plese see scr1 and scr2 afterwards. this issue is kinda
strange cause it happens in around 50% cases when I open up VLC.

sometimes when typing 'eng' HUD shows all options (english audio in
  this case) and sometimes not.

when HUD wont find 'english' after typing 'eng' for the first time
when starting time VLC, starting up HUD ('alt') again wont help. I
need to close VLC and then try another time with HUD. And like i said
before, its a 50% change that it will work properly.

if you need more info I will be happy to provide it to you.

I see a flash across the top portion of the screen (maybe down to the
second or third icon in the dock), but nothing apparently happens.
This is PROBABLY a compiz thing but I decided to go ahead and report
against Unity becaus the Dash is completely non-functional so maybe it
  needs a slightly improved fallback.

NOTE If I log out and log in using Ubuntu 2D, everything works as it
should. This failure only affects a "normal" ubuntu login.

I believe this may be the onboard video for this hardware, though I
can open up the box if you need to know.

I did NOT do a release upgrade -- I booted from a USB stick upgraded
by clicking the "install ubuntu 12.04.1" icon. I chose to preserve my

the upgrade I can look for the install log or whatever. HOWEVER I
believe when I tested 12.04 while in beta I had the same problem with
Unity, but I waited until now figuring this bug would be squashed by
  now.

When I test unity support, I get the following result:

Vino doesn't start until a particular user is logged in, and that user
has "desktop sharing" enabled. Consequently, unless "auto log-in" is
set for a user, and "desktop sharing" is enabled for that user, there
is no way to use VNC (vinagre) to log-in to a remote Ubuntu system.
Vino should be operable at the log-in phase (lightdm) to enable the
very basic functionality of remote access to a Ubuntu desktop system.

My suggestion is to have a way to start vino at the point where
lightdm is started. Even if I had to restart vinagre after logging in
via lightdm, at least it would be possible to remotely access the
  desktop environment.

Alternatively, I have submitted a bug report on the fact that "auto
log-in" only functions on initial bootstrap - it doesn't function
  after log-out.

Files in the Files-Lens. There should be a setting in the files-lens

  unity > lenses > files > [display-recent-files]

When I hit Super+F, I'm always stuck with Recent files & folders
clogging up my dash. For this reason I always end up using the HOME

without having to put up with the accumulation of Recent documents.

No restart/shutdown in power cog on live CD

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
After installing 13.04 within a live CD session, I selected to
continue using the session after the installation was complete. When I
tried to restart the computer with the appropriate entrty in the
"power cog" menu, the only option was to suspend the computer.

Pressing the power-off button on my comuter launches a menu which
  allows me to shutdown/reboot, however.

Bug description:
Previews automatically resize images to the full size of the image
area, but it's unreasonable to expect that every scopes will be able
to provide 400x400 images for their results. To avoid bad quality
previews, images smaller than the image area should be kept at their
original size and probably be centered.
