Bug description:
Impact: high CPU/memory usage from unity-panel-service

  Test case:

Open a large image in the GIMP and activate a lot of items from the
global menu. Using shortcuts is enough and faster to reproduce this
bug (I've always used Ctrl+A and Ctrl+Shift+A). Memory usage of unity-
panel-service increases steadily and it uses a lot of CPU shortly
after activating the menu items in a short time.

Regression potential: check that the menus are stable/working as they
  should

  -
Just going about my business on Ubuntu Raring amd64 on an x230 and I heard
the fan kick into action. top showed me that unity-panel-service was consuming
all the free cycles on one of my CPUs. I killed it before my machine
overheated, so I didn't attach a debugger to see why it was totally pegging out
a CPU.

I'm not sure if this adds any context, but I was using a LibreOffice
spreadsheet and I could not insert a table because the menu had lost
it's mind, and then I observed the overly loaded CPU a very short
  while after that.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1458491] [NEW] indicator-bluetooth misses controls to enable file transfer

2015-05-25 Thread Karl-Philipp Richter
Public bug reported:

The default settings of `indicator-bluetooth` make file transfers fail
without feedback (not too great, but not the issue here). One has to
install `bluemon` and enable file transfer options like ~"allow
read/write" and ~"allow trusted devices". The user expects `indicator-
bluetooth` to offer a sufficient set of options to transfer file which
is a quite basic task for bluetooth connections. The options should be
added to sufficient hints displayed in the application (e.g. a hint that
the settings aren't implemented yet and that one needs to manage the
device with `bluemon` like described above).

Title:
Backlight cannot be adjusted at lock screen

Status in Unity:
  Incomplete
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:

This affects 14.04 LTS. I haven't tried any more recent versions.

When the screen is locked, it is not possible to use the Fn+Brightness
  up/down keys.

If I am using an external monitor, then I turn down the backlight
brightness to zero. I often use my laptop at the office with an
external monitor and the backlight turned off. When I come home and
resume, the backlight is off and I cannot switch it on to see the
  login prompt.

  Steps to reproduce
  1. Set backlight brightness to off using Fn+brightness down
  2. Lock computer with Super+L
  3. Attempt to increase brightness with Fn+brightness up

  Expected results:
Backlight switches on, and Lock/login screen becomes visible

  Actual results:
Backlight remains off and Lock/login screen is not visible

This is a regression in 14.04 LTS since the 14.04 release. I can't
remember when this started happening, but it's been at least a few
  weeks.

Bug description:
As per the smart-scopes work and per the fix for lp:1189088, it has
been introduced a regression that caused unity to wait 500ms after the
user a clicked over an application icon before activating it.

Basically unity waits for a possible double click on every dash icon,
and this slows down the activation of application icons using the
  mouse.

  1) Press Super+A
  2) Click over an application icon to launch it

  Expected result:
  3) The dash closes immediately and the app is launched

  Actual result:
  3) The dash is kept open for 500ms (or slightly more) and finally it launches
the
 application

The same happens in the command scope (that you can see by pressing Alt+F2).
This makes the unity dash look slower in launching an app.

When trying to page down or page up in the Dash it never works.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1.) press Super+A
2.) expand the "Installed" category so that all installed applications are
viewable, resulting in lots of rows of icons
3.) press the "Page Down" key with the intention of advancing the view of
icons down one page. Nothing happens. The "page down" key will not move the
view down one page.

Please make it so that "Page Down" and "Page Up" work in the dash so
users can use these keys when looking at lots and lots of icons.

  --
  Desired Solution:

  - When the Dash is open the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys should scroll
  the Dash up and down.

(note this behaviour was specified in section "2.4.2.2 Keyboard
navigation" of the original Dash spec.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1390625] Re: mouse cursor gets corrupted

2015-05-25 Thread exap
As davixt3 said, installing xserver-xorg disables clicking with the
touchpad. You can still move the cursor with the touchpad, but you have
to use the buttons below the touchpad to click.

To fix the touchpad issue open dconf-editor and go to /org/gnome
/settings-daemon/peripherals/touchpad and set "tap-to-click" to true,
"touchpad-enabled" to true and "scroll-method" to "edge-scrolling".

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1447821] Re: Lockscreen does not ask for ldap password

2015-05-25 Thread Fábio Lima
Hello, folks, the problem is now solved.

The problem was caused by a script located at /usr/share/libpam-
script/pam_script_auth, triggered by libpam-script (manpages: pam.d and
pam-script). This script allows some extra verifications using user's
password. It must be used very carefully, not only because the password
is available, but also because if the last command send a successful
execution signal, the authentication will succeed, even if the user gave
an wrong password and the ldap server returned an authentication
failure.

I apologize for opening this bug ticket.

I will look into trying it out soon. My thinkpad had a red nipple mouse and
no track pad so xorg may not be too much hassle. Again thanks for the

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1301125] Re: Lock screen after idle time freezes unity

2015-05-25 Thread pronoy chopra
I have this issue everytime. I think I am just going to get rid of Unity
and install something like Cinnamon or some sort of window manager like
Awesome.

Lock screen after idle time freezes unity

Status in Unity:

Bug description:
  Hello,

I recently upgrade to 14.04. My system uses fglrx provided by 14.04.

When I lock manually the screen, I get no problem. I can even sleep the
system without problem. However,
when the screen is locked by idle time, I cannot unlock it.

At this point, I can see the screen but with some kind of translucent
panel over it. Mouse also works. I tried to type blink the password
but I had no luck. I only get a working system by going text mode
(ctrl+alt+f1) and restarting lightdm. No dmesg or Xorg logs seems to
indicate any error. The only strange log was in .xsession-errors.old:

init: processos unity-settings-daemon main (2495) terminados com status 1
init: processos gnome-session (Unity) main (2539) terminados com status 1
init: processos unity-panel-service main (2572) terminados com status 1

status 1
init: Disconnected from notified D-Bus bus
init: processos at-spi2-registryd main (2538) terminados com status 1

But as it has no time info, I cannot tell when they happened.

At least another user faces the same problem:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2214421

And this seems to be different from bug 1283938 as pm sleep/wake works
  as expected.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1427714] Re: Clock app requires timers support from the platform

2015-05-25 Thread Zsombor Egri
As we do not have any backend support/schedule for it, I cannot express
any estimates. Perhaps this will fall into 16.04 timeframe, depends on
how much time we have and whether we get support from platform. By
platform I mean the new backend which omits the QtOrganizer/EDS
middlemen. With QtOrganizer this would be a bit hard to implement so the
timers are not mixed with alarms.
