[Dx-packages] [Bug 1439599] [NEW] Search button not clickable on revealed unity launcher

2015-04-02 Thread Oldřich Jedlička
Public bug reported:

I have auto-hide of launcher enabled and I am opening it with Alt+F1.
When the launcher appears, the search button (the top-most button) is
selected (has focus) and accessible when I press Enter - the search
screen appears. But the button is not accessible by mouse - the mouse
click is not handled immediatelly and the search screen does not appear.
I need to click somewhere else or press Esc key - it behaves like the
click is remembered, but processed later.

Expected is that the search screen appears immediately when I click the
search (the top-most) button of the launcher.

I am using Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS.

** Affects: unity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Default alarm behavior can cause unnecessary battery drain

Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
As discussed in private bug #1430666, the default alarm ring duration
of 30 minutes is really long compared to other phones. This got called
out because it will cause unnecessary screen-on battery drain.

IMO 30 minutes should not be the default option -- if a user doesn't
dismiss after 10 minutes, adding another 20 feels like overkill.

In addition, datetime (rightly) turns the screen on when an alarm
triggers. It's kept on for the duration of the alarm, even if it rings
for a half hour. That's a pretty long screen-on time to pay when the
  user's inactive.

  1. : "‘Stop ringing after’ controls how long the
timer rings. It is set by default to 10 minutes and can be changed
  with the expansion component"

  2. Datetime should release its "screen on" hold after the first few
minutes, so that even long-ringing alarms don't drain more battery
  than necessary.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1241972] Re: Drag and drop from Dash to Desktop doesn't work

2015-04-02 Thread Recep GUCLUER
As a workaround I used as told in:
Comment 25 for bug 1241972
(Valentin Crone (va-crone) wrote on 2014-06-07:) with some modifications:
1 - open nautilus (File browser)
( normal usage of nautilus gave me an error, using with sudo is ok.)
sudo nautilus

2 - Go to: /usr/share/applications/
This folder contains all shortcuts of the menu.
Copy what you would, and paste where you would.

This solved my problem. Thanks Valentin.

I hope the issue will not appear in the next LTS.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1241972] Re: Drag and drop from Dash to Desktop doesn't work

2015-04-02 Thread Valentin Crone
This type of bug, like sometimes bug with control panel (incomplete, or
bugged), or unable to do something without searching a command line on the web
to solve a innexistant function in GUI, or a bug, is typicaly what it's a
problem with beginner, or person who search to have a easy computer with
Ubuntu, and they ran away.
So, this type of bug or lack must be considered as important bugs for a general
public distribution.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1241972] Re: Drag and drop from Dash to Desktop doesn't work

2015-04-02 Thread Recep GUCLUER
I agree with you Valentin. It is a barrier for beginners. I tried linux
since 1998. Several distros. And never used more than two weeks. Since
2014. I decided to insist on trying the desktop linux distributions. Now
, I use linux as my primary OS. I was using Mint 17 , switched to Ubuntu
14.04 last week. As you say , problems with basic user interface makes
it harder for people to switch to Linux.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1437767] Re: Icons contain pixellated artifacts

2015-04-02 Thread Ryan Finnie
Updating and rebooting trusty today did not help.

Note in the original screenshot how the chevron in the terminal icon is
lopsided (enlarged 400% in aa2.png), and the top edge of the disk icon
at the bottom is jagged. Also, I've made aa1.gif (also at 400%), which
shows when the security icon is hovered over, its gets a badly
antialiased dark border. (The 256 color limitation of gif introduces
its own artifacts, but the original problem is still clearly visible.)

Bug description:
New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected
non-latin keyboard layout.
Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters->keyboard->hotkeys->windows works perfect with any keyboard
  layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead
of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin
layouts this workaround helps only with one of them.

  Dear Ubuntu users and developers!
Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin
shortcuts problems:
  1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu
14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean
installed
  2. What keyboard layout do you have
  3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use
  4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell,
GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz)
  5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA,
non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems.

By providing this information you can make bug-fixing much simpler and
  may be faster.

  --
For other layout switching problems introduced in Ubuntu 13.10 you can see
bug 1218322.
