[Dx-packages] [Bug 1198653] Re: It is not possible to drag & drop and pin icon to launch bar when auto-hiding is turned on

2014-12-04 Thread Łukasz Maniak
Yes, I've noticed that I can always reproduce the bug from second try.
For example I've booted up Ubuntu, turned auto-hide on and in first try
I can move the icon, but when I'll miss the dock and move mouse out of
the search box and bar hides, from now always I can't anymore attach
items from search because bar keeps hiding. Maybe this is some cache
issue here.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1319983] Re: notify-osd loses pending bubble if append occurs when bubble is not yet visible

2014-12-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Is that still an issue for you? Running those scripts show the different
bubbles displayed, which is weird because the code didn't change/the fix
didn't get merged. Could you try again/describe exactly the behaviour
you get if that's still buggy?

Bug description:
  [Impact]
When a notification specifiying x-canonical-append:true is recieved and
merges with a bubble the bubble will be lost if the bubble is not yet visible.
We will also update times incorrectly on any synchronous bubble.

  [Test Case]
Running the attached scripts (play.py and play2.py) show the issue: bubbles
after the first one aren't shown, because they specify x-canonical-append. The
attached branch fixes that.

  [Regression Potential]
The patch only touches code that is concerned with updating an existing
notification. This is currently broken anyway.

api (deprecating the old libindicate library) which should make
  application developper's life easier.

The indicator work is done and the library is ready and we started
  porting applications

The current stack is being tested in https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
  desktop/+archive/ppa/

  It includes
  - indicator-messages
  - gwibber
  - indicator-telepathy
  - thunderbird (soon, work is being finished)

which is what we consider the minimal set for landing the feature

for quantal we will add those soon:
  - pidgin
  - xchat-indicator
  - evolution-indicator

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1003950] Re: launcher does not show minimized update manager while clicked

2014-12-04 Thread Captain Chaos
This is still happening on 14.04. I too have multiple monitors, with the
middle one being the main monitor. There have been other programs which
can't cope with that, perhaps it has something to do with this problem
as well?

It would be quite nice to have it confirmed for trusty. It only shows as
"nominated" above. I don't know what that means, but it definitely isn't
fixed on 14.04...

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1363959] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in nux::WindowCompositor::DndEventCycle()

2014-12-04 Thread Christopher Townsend
This crash has no real reproduction case, so marked this verification-
done since:

1. It's been in Utopic for a couple of months now (and Vivid too) with no new
crashes reported or regressions.
2. I've been running this package since it's been in the ci-train PPA (and
-proposed after that) with no new regressions seen.

Apparently is is caused by an uninitialized pointer dereference that
only occurs in a timing-dependent manner.

Running a full autopilot test suite against the Unity desktop shell
  reveals no new regressions.

  [Regression Potential]

The code change effectively adds a test for a null pointer. It is
possible that this might introduce a regression in drag-and-drop

Fix was released with Ubuntu 14.10 and no new regressions have been

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1399502] [NEW] Lock screen can lose focus and send keystrokes to some other application

2014-12-04 Thread Mike Gerow
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

I have a user that reported the unity lock screen losing focus and
sending keystrokes to the application behind it. This seems similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1358504 but that
bug is marked as fixed.

In their specific case they were using chrome with google hangouts
(using chrome's google hangouts extension:
)
when they locked their screen. Upon coming back they typed their
password and hit enter, but the screen did not unlock. They had to
manually click in the password field and type their password before it
would unlock. Upon unlocking they discovered that they had a hangouts
window open with a colleague and had sent their password to them (I'm
assuming during that first try when the lock screen did not unlock).

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Release:14.04

$ apt-cache policy unity
unity:
  Installed: 7.2.3+14.04.20140826-0ubuntu1.0.1

I'm currently trying to find a way to reproduce this, but haven't
managed to yet.

** Affects: unity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Information type changed from Private Security to Public Security

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1399502] Re: Lock screen can lose focus and send keystrokes to some other application

2014-12-04 Thread Seth Arnold
Mike, the number of reports of this kind of behaviour have dropped
dramatically since this update was released; my first thought is that
perhaps the computer hasn't been rebooted since
7.2.3+14.04.20140826-0ubuntu1.0.1 was installed, and an older version
was still running.

Do you know if the session had been restarted since the package was
installed?

Thanks

But as that is marked fixed, perhaps this is something different.

A few times, I have been unable to enter my password until I had clicked in
the top right corner, and back into the password box.
I hadn't suspected anything serious, until today when I tried to log in, and
eventually got in, seeing that my password had been set to my web browser.

In addition, I've also had instances where I've had to enter the
password twice, and instances when I've come to the computer and it
appeared not to be locked, until I moved the mouse, and the lock
  screen displayed.

2014-12-04 Thread Andrea Azzarone
Btw this is due to the way nux animation and compiz works. Basically can
happen that an animation start later because nothing the screen is
truely idle. In this case the grab will be released later and the
lockscreen will be delayed. The best way to fix this bug is to call
cscreen->damagePending() as soon as we start a nux::animation.

Title:
search box on the lenses requires retyping when changing lens

Status in Ayatana Design:
  New
Status in Unity:
  Incomplete
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
The problem is that searching for something in one lens doesn't help
when changing to another lense (it requires retyping).

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Click on the dash and type for instance "performous"
  2. You realise that you are not in the apps lens and change context and the
word "performous" is not there, the dash comes up with a fresh search box
instead of looking for "performous" straight away

I think the search box should be common to all the lenses instead of
having a different one for each lense. Imagine this behavior on a
phone, typing the same stuff again would be utterly annoying.

Bug description:

  Test Case:
  - download the file from comment #4
  - Compile with:
    gcc reproduce-lp1070421.c -o testcase `pkg-config --cflags --libs
messaging-menu`
  - "Something happened" will appear below the "Empathy" entry in the messaging
menu. Without the fix to this bug, an "icon-not-found" icon will be displayed.
With the fix, no icon should appear.

  Regression Potential:
Limited, it makes work a case which was broken, if the fix is not correct it
would keep not working
  ---

At the moment if I create some Messaging Menu menuitem with no icon (GIcon
*icon = NULL), it is created with no icon, as it is supposed to be.
Then I set some icon with messaging_menu_app_set_source_icon, and later I
want to remove it. I call messaging_menu_app_set_source_icon again, providing
NULL as pointer to icon, and icon is not removed, but is set to some
"icon-not-found" icon (I don't know real name for that icon).
So the only way to remove icon from source is to completely remove it and
create again. I suppose that it is a bug.

Bug description:
Firefox contains its own copy of sqlite which is updated in regular
updates. Currently, libunity-webapps links against the system
libsqlite causing 2 copies of it to be mapped in to memory at the same

works because the wind is blowing in the right direction. As the copy
of sqlite shipped with Firefox changes in regular updates, this is
likely to go wrong at some point in a future update.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1003950] Re: launcher does not show minimized update manager while clicked

2014-12-04 Thread Jeff Johnson
This seems to happen very regularly to me on 14.04. I also saw it on
previous versions. I think the relevant pieces are these: I have a
laptop and an external monitor that is always connected. They are not
the same size (# of pixels). I typically use two accounts. My regular
account that pops up the update manager GUI and a guest session. It
seems that when I leave the guest session open and the update manager is
started in the other session (not displayed on any screen at the time),
that is when I can't click on it to open the update manager GUI.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

As 12.04 is an LTS, many users decide to stay with that version until
the next LTS version is available. Many of those users require
different input methods to comfortably input characters in their
language. We do support IBus for some of the languages, but others are
still using XIM as the input framework. Those users cannot input in
their language using their standard input methods. This means using
the Dash and HUD is much more troublesome or even impossible in normal
  cases.

We think that even though it is essentially a new feature, it can be thought
that the lack of support for non-IBus additional input methods is a bug in a
way.
It is a big change, but with proper testing, we would ensure that the
addition does not introduce any new regressions.

This addition would make many MANY users happy, which can be seen at
least by the number of affected people in LP: #983254.

Also, the change is needed by OEM. It is a big change, but it's
crucial for CJK - Kyrlin has voiced the proposition to use fctix as
the default input method, which _needs_ XIM support in Nux and Unity.

  [Test Case]

  1. Install fctix-pinyin
  2. Run im-config and enable fctix as the default IM
  3. Reboot your machine
  4. Open the dash and input non-latin characters using fctix
-> Non latin characters (Chinese in this case) should appear on screen.

  [Regression Potential]

In an impossible scenariu, broken IBus input or input in overall in Nux input
fields.
The good thing about the XIM support is that it's rather isolated, so
potential breakage of the XIM code won't impact normal Nux workflow. Just XIM
input might not work.

The author of the code, Brandon, also mentions that new regression
potential is low as the XIM code is not being used by default. As XIM
is not the default, when IBus is present - without explicitly setting
XIM in im-config, the XIM parts are not even accessed.

  [Other Info]

The same functionality is already available in the newer Unity
  releases.

  Original description:

Right now the only input method (IM) that works with Unity/Nux is
IBus. This means anyone who uses a different IM would have to switch
to IBus in order to type in their language.

This is something that needs to be fixed and will make Unity/Nux
friendlier to those who use different IMs. If you do not use an IM
then this will not affect you.

XIM was the very first IM framework for the X window system, which
means most IMs are supported by it.

A List of IMs that will be supported by this branch (There could be more):

The addition of two new launcher items to the default launcher (bug

This is made worse by Software Center adding newly installed apps to
the launcher by default. The launcher can't handle more items on
average laptop screens. It is even worse on netbooks.

  What I'd like to see
  ==
  * Follow a philosophy oft-invoked on the Ayatana mailing list and drop 2
launcher items to make room for the 2 new ones.
  Possibilities for removal:
 - System Settings, which pitti & I complained about in bug 764744 when it
was added last year as GNOME 3 has many ways of reaching System Settings. (The
user testing leading to that decision was done on 11.04 which used GNOME 2.)
 - Ubuntu One could be removed if the indicator-sync FFE/MIR gets approved
 - LibreOffice Calc & Impress don't need to be there, as it's possible to
create or open spreadsheets from LibreOffice Writer, or open the apps directly
from the Dash.

Bug description:
Having a multi-boot system, multiple partitions, USB keys, SD cards
and external hard drives makes Unity launcher cluttered very quick
  (see screenshot).

To resolve this issue the following changes are required:

  1) It should be possible to remove specific file system icons from the
Launcher by un-checking the “Unlock from Launcher” option (or dragging
  to the trash).

  2) In the case of non-removable file systems, the system should
remember these settings so that rebooting will not return these icons
  to the Launcher.

  3) In the case of removable file systems (USB keys, SD cards, etc...),
if a removable file system is removed and then re-attached it should
re-appear in the Launcher. If the removable file system is not
removed and the user has removed it's icon from the Launcher, the icon
should not return to the Launcher even if the computer is re-booted.

  4) All 'specific file system' icons that the user has removed from the
Launcher should be displayed in the Dash file Lens in the “Favourite
Folders/Folders” category. This allows the user to re-add these icons
to the Launcher at a later date.

is that desired behavior or should that be changed ?

  =Original Report=
Forgive me if the terminology is incorrect.

The graphic in unity 5.0 that appears when you touch a window to the
top of the screen works fine.(Snap Preview, the orange box that
  appears)

  However

If you drag it off full screen and then decide to put it back right
after, the graphic does not show up. It just immediately goes to
fullscreen instead of having the orange snap preview box appear.

Not sure if this is intentional , but it seems inconsistent.

  Drag-to-maximize animation shows incorrect preview

Status in Unity:

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 14.04, drag-to-maximize shows an incorrect preview animation
when dragging a window to the top bar or the sides. The preview
animation consists of the window pixmap scaled to the preview outline
size, disregarding aspect ratio. The preview pixmap disappears after
the animation. It looks really broken, confusing and glitchy.

Earlier Unity versions used a related effect, but with nearly
completely transparent windows pixmap rendering, and fadeout of the
pixmap over the animation duration, which was mostly okay. It looks
like the translucent fading is broken, at the very least.

IMHO scaling the window pixmap this way is not useful at all, though,
because it isn't a proper preview of the window after scaling. It
might be useful to discuss this elsewhere. For the moment, Unity
should simply behave like it previously did in Ubuntu 13.10.

I have put up a demo video here:
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_Md_z0g4RE

Bug description:
  [Impact]

The session indicator always uses gnome-session to end the session
(log out), but gnome-session is not guaranteed to be available under,
for example, a Unity8 desktop preview session. It should use Upstart
  where available.

  [Test Case]

Install unity8-desktop-session and choose to log in to that session
from the LightDM login screen. You should be able to select "log out"
from the session-indicator indicator and have it bring you back to the
  login screen.

  [Regression Potential]

In the worst case this change could affect log out operations from
regular Unity 7 sessions and potentially other sessions that use the
session indicator. In such a case, the log out operation would fail
necessitating a reboot or manual session kill.

  [Other Info]

This change has been in production use on later releases of Ubuntu (14.10 and
later) without problems.

Later version of the Unity 8 desktop session do not exit to the
LightDM login screen but instead restart Unity 8 and present the Unity
8 login screen. This is a bug in Unity 8 and not related to
  indicator-session.

Bug description:
Sometimes after launching an app via the Dash Home, then next time the
Dash is opened it does not accept input into the text field unless the
user clicks inside the text field first. The correct behaviour is for
the Dash search box to always accept input as soon as the Dash is
opened. This is a hard bug to reproduce, sometimes it works many times
in a row before the bug occurs. Perhaps there is a timing issue

  Currently the debian/copyright:

makes no mention of the licence or authorship for TinyXML or the
Unicode functions that are included with the source code and nominally
have been placed in the "Public Domain".

In addition, there is a mismatch between the 'debian/copyright' which
states LGPL-3 and GPL-3 and the website:

    http://www.inalogic.com/license

  which states LGPL-2.1 and GPL-3.

Ideally the source source, licence and authorship of all of the
components should be stated and be coherent in doing so.

Bug description:
The keyboard shortcut Alt-Shift-Tab does nothing unless Alt-Tab is
pressed first (and Alt is continued to be held down). It should be
possible to use the keyboard window switcher in reverse order without
having to go forward first. (Other desktops such as Windows, GNOME
Shell, etc. allow this.) This also affects the Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Tab
shortcut (to show windows from all workspaces).

If this isn't fixed, I guess the help article will have to be a bit
  more complex to explain that.

To quote from the Desktop help:

When you hold down the Alt key and then press Tab, a window switcher
appears. This shows a list of the windows you have open, with a
  preview.

You can continue pressing Tab as many times as you need to reach the
  window you want.

To switch to the previous window, hold down the Alt key and press
  Shift-Tab instead.

Only windows from the current workspace will be shown. To show windows
from all workspaces, hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys and press Tab or
  Shift-Tab.

Bug description:
On fresh boots the greeter & desktop may have the cursor visible or may not
until mouse is moved.
On a log out/in the cursor is almost always invisible until mouse is moved.
(unless made visible in greeter screen, then visible on Desktop

This is all well & good, maybe some intentional aesthetics/design
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687791) , however sometimes the
cursor never becomes visible.
In that case hitting some keys or context menu can cause it to show, though
most times a log out is needed.
(with the removal of ctrl+alt+delete > log out this means most users will
need to either blindly find the session indicator or hit power button.

When the g-s-d cursor plugin is disabled then the cursor is always
visible, it the plugin has no use in an ubuntu session then maybe it
  should be default disabled

There is also the possibility, particularly on ssd drives, of a login
with no session indicator. This occasionally combines with no visible
  cursor.
