[Dx-packages] [Bug 1170647] Re: After minimizing an external media, clicking on the "Files" icon on the Launcher doesn't restore the minimized window, but opens a new one

2014-10-22 Thread Nidal R
@ Alberto Salvia Novella Thanks for explaining this perfectly

Until I read #81, nautilus's behaviour was utterly erratic and
perplexing to me. This probably affects 99% of users. This problem is
exacerbated for users like me who keep most of their files in a separate
partition (for easy access in dual-boot windows/ubuntu setup).

This is clearly a UI FAIL. The icon in launcher is the same for
nautilus file manager and for home folder.

The simplest solution is to eradicate this distinction between File
manager window showing a home folder and file manager showing other
folders.

  HOW TO REPRODUCE

  1. Connect a removable media to the computer.
  2. On the launcher, click on the "Files" icon.
  3. On the left sidebar, click on the removable media icon or the trash.
  4. Minimize the window.
  5. Click on the "Files" icon.

  EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR

  - The Files window to be maximized.

  REAL BEHAVIOUR

  - A new window is opened.

  RELEVANT DETAILS

  - The only way to navigate between windows at this moment is to use
the "control + tabulation" key combination, or to click again on the
"Files" icon so windows are exposed.

  **
   SOLUTION
  **

  WORK-AROUND

  - On the launcher, left click on the "Files" icon and select the
  "unlock from Launcher" option.

  FIX

  - The launcher icon for "Files" to be treated the same way as if it
  was unlocked.

  REGRESSION POTENTIAL

  - Clicking on the "Files" icon won't send the user to its home folder,
but to the latest opened Files window.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1353469] Re: Compiler optimization error needs investigation

2014-10-22 Thread Michael Terry
Doko, you asked me to re-test if this is still a problem. It is. :( I
rebuilt accountsservice with latest utopic and without the optimization
work-arounds I had put it in it before. Still hit bug 1351308.

Bug description:
This is a breakaway bug from bug 1351308.

accountsservice 0.6.37-1ubuntu7 introduced a new bug where
libaccountsservice would not report the manager object as loaded. It
wasn't because of the content of that upload, but rather seemingly
because of building with a new compiler. It got uploaded shortly
  after the gcc 4.9 transition.

I wasn't able to determine whether this is something accountsservice
is doing or just gcc's fault. But even inserting some debug
statements around the place or downgrading optimization to -O1 made
the problem go away. So I'm leaning towards gcc.

For now, we just changed optimization in the package to workaround the
problem. But the root source should be investigated.

2014-10-22 Thread Khurshid Alam
Of-course indicator-appmenu is installed. Everything works fine in
Unity. I have updated bug description.

I have also noticed that those gtk apps which are not directly patched
by Ubuntu (to restore traditional horizontal menus) & uses a single all-
in-one vertical menu, are working fine. For example, Geary or
Claifornia. For those apps indicator-applet-appmenu shows a single
vertical menu in the panel. screenshot:http://imgur.com/gMSAwCe

some other gtk apps (i.e. Nautilus, eog) it doesn't show any menu at
  all.

  4. Surprisingly for Firefox it does properly move all the menus to

That seems excessive for a keyboard indicator.

It appears to be reading the same file over and over and again but

this is roughly 50% growth. Probably not required for this

The thing is that I noticed this this this morning because RES actually said:
 12.8 GIG. *zomg*
That seems excessive for a keyboard indicator.

It appears to be reading the same file over and over and again but
  perhaps not doing so correctly.

Using strace we can see that while

Bug description:
A maximized application's title bar does not merge into the menu bar
once a user has performed Super + W (window slide). Note that if one
does not do Super+E, then the bars to merge together. However, once
Super+E has been performed, this bug persists for the lifetime of the
windowed application. If the application is restarted after doing
Super+E, then the bug is gone. Thus, it seems like Super+E introduces
this bug for the lifetime of the windowed application.

Expected behavior: Maximized window's title bar is merged into menu bar.
Observed: Does not occur after Super+W is performed.

  Try this out using Terminal.

Because of packaging changes in Qt Base in Qt 5.3.2, packages using

  From Debian bug report:

This comes from QPlatformSupport stuff which creates a static library that
needs this linking.

It also happens that QPlatformSupport is private stuff, so there is really no
way to solve this but either stop using private stuff or helping upstream to
make QPlatformSupport public (which would be really helpful). This will in turn
mean that it will become a dynamic lib and this bug can be fixed.

  So:
  A) someone works in qtbase upstream to make the QPlatformSupport public, or
  B) workaround with adding libmtdev-dev build dependencies

This bug refers more to the B) option to get Qt 5.3.2 packages move

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1379152] Re: Needs building dependency on libmtdev-dev (or making QPlatformSupport public)

2014-10-22 Thread Timo Jyrinki
I don't think this B) option has any impact other than the 80kB library
appearing on rootfs and the need to add the build dependency in affected
packages. This is already done in the Qt 5.3.2 landing PPA.

The mtdev is only used if evdev input driver is in use, ie. this can
improve multi touch on desktop but does not affect the phone.

Bug description:
Because of packaging changes in Qt Base in Qt 5.3.2, packages using
qplatformsupport from private headers will need to add an additional
  dependency to compile against it.

  From Debian bug report:
  ---
This comes from QPlatformSupport stuff which creates a static library that
needs this linking.

It also happens that QPlatformSupport is private stuff, so there is really no
way to solve this but either stop using private stuff or helping upstream to
make QPlatformSupport public (which would be really helpful). This will in turn
mean that it will become a dynamic lib and this bug can be fixed.
  ---

  So:
  A) someone works in qtbase upstream to make the QPlatformSupport public, or
  B) workaround with adding libmtdev-dev build dependencies

This bug refers more to the B) option to get Qt 5.3.2 packages move
  forward.

  Make window menu always visible

Bug description:
Please make the window menu at the top of the screen always visible
  (instead of auto-hide).

This would allow for quicker workflow: Instead of having to move the
cursor to the top and then search for the desired menu (e.g. "File" or
"Edit"), you could directly head for the desired menu. Furthermore it
would make Ubuntu/Unity easier to use for new users.
