[Dx-packages] [Bug 1124005] Re: [indicators] Sound menu: Volume slider should disappear when Mute is toggled on

2014-02-19 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
A complication is that many keyboards have Mute, Quieter, and Louder
keys. So even if we (a/b) made the volume slider inaccessible during
mute, the Quieter and Louder keys would still need defined behavior; and
if we (c) removed "Mute" from the menu, the Mute key would still need
defined behavior.

Reece, thanks for the report, and sorry for the confusion about ubuntu-
bug. Well-meaning triagers sometimes assume that every bug report needs
apport info, which ubuntu-bug provides. But sometimes, as in this case,
apport info is not relevant at all.

current date not highlighted/wrong date highlighted

  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 13.10, x86_64, indicator-datetime 13.10.0+13.10.20131023.

indicator-datetime provides *no highlighting at all* for the current
date. Worse, it provides faint highlighting for a different date (the
date I logged in?). See attached screenshot.

This is related to to several other bugs (below), but the other issues
are apx 2 years old and appear to be inactive.

  Implications and related UI issues:
  - It is too easy for a user to interpret the faint highlighting as today's
date.
  - If another day has previously been clicked (even days earlier), it remains
highlighted. Users will likely expect that the highlighting corresponds to
today's date, not that of a click days earlier.
  - The lack of a "go to today" button makes it very difficult to focus the
date for common use cases (What's today's date? What am I doing today?
Tomorrow?)

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1241101] Re: Java crash in libglib-2.0 after upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10

2014-02-19 Thread Antonio Ferraro
I have my own RCP application, built with Eclipse Helios, for multiple
platforms. The problem happens for me when I test the application build
for Linux x86-gtk. Platform: Kubuntu 13.10 (virtualbox machine), JRE:
1.6u45. I get the crash while I use the preference pages and hit the OK
button. No .log is found in workspace/.metadata, just the
hs_err_pid.log in the app install directory.

The Solaris sparc/intel and win32/64 builds of the app work fine in
Solaris, and so does the linuxx86_64 when tested on CentOS 6.3.

The GTK workaround (System Settings/Application Appearance/GTK/Gtk2
theme Raleigh) works for my application, after a reboot of the VM. But I
do not like this as the look and feel is somewhat old fashioned and not
in line with the rest of the system.

However, and this is my contribution to this discussion, when I run the
application from the command line as root, with sudo , the
problem disappears (has anybody tried?). I then thought that it may have
been caused by some missing file access permissions and temporarily
gave full access to the whole workspace directory but the problem
reappeared, so it is not connected to permissions on the workspace. Also
for me the hs_errxxx.pid point to libgobject-2.0.s0.0+0x16bfe

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1282051] [NEW] Camera app on maguro flickering degraded massively with latest Unity8

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After an update of libunity-core-6.0-8 to libunity-core-6.0-9 the
already existing flickering in the camera-app on maguro degraded so much
that the app got unusable (looks like a strobe now). Seemingly the
rendering frequency was raised with this update.

Bug description:
New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected
non-latin keyboard layout.
Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters->keyboard->hotkeys->windows works perfect with any keyboard
  layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead
of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin
layouts this workaround helps only with one of them.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1267888] Re: Using mouse scrollwheel on unfocused/inactive Launcher icons should not focus that app

2014-02-19 Thread florin
If I understand it correctly, if I am using Firefox and I also have 3
open windows with Nautilus, for changing to one of the 3 windows of
Nautilus, I have to one click and then scroll on the Launcher icon. It
was nicer just to scroll, without the click. It is faster and I really
like this interaction, too bad it is removed.

In bug #1081843, the following design was given:

"If the application *is not* in focus when the user moves their
pointer over the Launcher app icon, the first mouse wheel click
towards or away from the user should focus the application, and bring
the top most window in the application's z stack to the front of the
global z stack. Subsequent clicks of the mouse wheel the operate
  exactly as described above."

However, a community member recently brought up the issue that this is
not expected behavior and posted as such in that bug. Mark
Shuttleworth then responded that that design is a mistake and that
nothing should happen when using the mouse scroll wheel over a
Launcher icon of an unfocused app, no matter how many windows are
  associated with it.

This bug is to fix that design.

2014-02-19 Thread florin
As I do not use a mouse (I use only the touchpad), I got used to scroll
even if I have one window. It is so nice and fast, I see it as a
feature, not a bug. Maybe it is better if this comes as an option (tick)
in Appearance settings, who wants it could activate or deactivate it.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1267888] Re: Using mouse scrollwheel on unfocused/inactive Launcher icons should not focus that app

2014-02-19 Thread Christopher Townsend
Hi florin,

No, this change is only when you have one window of an application open
and then move the cursor over the Launcher icon and scroll. The old
behavior was to focus the window if it's unfocused. It does not affect
applications with more than one window open.

The problem is, when a user scrolls in one direction, there is an
expectation that scrolling in the opposite direction will put you back
in the former state. However, trying to save which application window
was last focused is not something we need to do at this time. But I
understand that some users have gotten used to this behavior, so we are
looking in to adding a setting to restore the old behavior.

Thanks!

Title:
Using mouse scrollwheel on unfocused/inactive Launcher icons should
  not focus that app

Status in Unity:
  Fix Committed
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1222602] Re: [regression] [gen3] Mesa 9.2 makes Unity unusable on Atom class hardware and 943/945 graphics controllers

2014-02-19 Thread Marco Ivaldi
I have the same issue by Danny in #65

Workaround suggested in #6 worked for me until I upgraded linux imag
3.11.0-17

Then compiz returned requiring too much resources to the system (cpu and
ram)

I tried to fix with a intel graphic workaround but without benefits.

For me solution suggested in # 67 works.

Do anyone know why?

M.

Bug description:
Since several updates performed on 1/8/2014, I am no longer able to
reveal the launcher bar on my secondary (right) display with the mouse
auto-reveal function. Under display settings, both monitors are set
to display a launcher bar. Auto reveal works fine with the mouse on
the primary (left) monitor. The sticky edge works fine with the
secondary (right) monitor, but no auto reveal for the launcher bar. I
can bring up the secondary (right) monitor launcher bar with the super
  key and alt+f1.

So far I've reverted to Nvidia 3.04 drivers from 3.19 by purging from
terminal and re-installing to no avail, and now back to 3.19 and it's
  still not working.

  Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS

AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
  Nvidia GT630 PCIe

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1282114] Re: home folder icon does not open and desktop folders are gone

2014-02-19 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 938758] Re: AutoHidden launcher reveal sensitivity adjustment should allow disabling push-past for wacom tablets

2014-02-19 Thread Uncle Pedro
I can't believe this. Ubuntu/Unity is supposed to be touch/tablet
friendly but as a convertible laptop user (X220T with pen and touch)
this kind of ambivalence is maddening. I expect to do a little tinkering
to make things work, but it feels like we've been hung out to dry.

Status in Unity:

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Since tablets are set to absolute, one cannot invoke a hidden launcher
via the new 'push-past' method implemented. One would expect to be
able to turn the sensitivity settings all the way up to disable all
push past. However, this is not the case.

End result, I cannot use autohide with a wacom tablet.

Expected behavior: Maximum sensitivity == disable pushpast so that
behavior is pre-12.04 where simple edge-detect reveals.

2014-02-19 Thread Jeremie Tamburini

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1282280] Re: Foul folder /proc/asound

2014-02-19 Thread Seth Arnold
What have you seen that documents a /proc/sound directory? None exists
on wide variety of systems I have at my disposal, including
2.6.32-54-generic 3.2.0-58-generic and 3.11.0-15-generic versions of the
Linux kernel.

If your audio doesn't work there is some other reason for the problem;
there is no reason to suspect a /proc/sound is necessary.

Thanks

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1282280] Re: Foul folder /proc/asound

2014-02-19 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1282342] [NEW] compiz crashes with segfault after recent updates

2014-02-19 Thread Doug Smythies
Public bug reported:

My Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 VM became unusable (unity shell) a few days ago, and
after some significant updates.
Things are fine after I log in and until I try to do something. Then compiz
will crash and my system becomes unusable. I do have sshd running and can
connect via ssh to re-boot or shurdown or get new updates are whatever.

This bug report is being sent while logged on with GNOME shell, which
also has been having issues since January 17th, ( see bug 1273276 ) but
there is a workaround that allows me to use it.

For the last few days, I see log entries in both kern.log and syslog
saying about compiz complaing about segfaults.

Everything was working fine for unity log in until a few days ago.
(well, and as expected during the development phase, there have been
issues.)

Title:
compiz crashes with segfault after recent updates

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
My Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 VM became unusable (unity shell) a few days ago, and
after some significant updates.
Things are fine after I log in and until I try to do something. Then compiz
will crash and my system becomes unusable. I do have sshd running and can
connect via ssh to re-boot or shurdown or get new updates are whatever.

This bug report is being sent while logged on with GNOME shell, which
also has been having issues since January 17th, ( see bug 1273276 )
but there is a workaround that allows me to use it.

For the last few days, I see log entries in both kern.log and syslog
saying about compiz complaing about segfaults.

Everything was working fine for unity log in until a few days ago.
(well, and as expected during the development phase, there have been
  issues.)

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04
  Package: unity 7.1.2+14.04.20140218.1-0ubuntu1

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1277487] Re: Create Unity Settings Daemon so can remain on old GNOME Settings Daemon version

2014-02-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-session - 3.9.90-0ubuntu8

---
gnome-session (3.9.90-0ubuntu8) trusty; urgency=medium

  * Split ubuntu-session out of gnome-session. Make gnome-session temporarily
depend on ubuntu-session so users automatically keep the Ubuntu session
configuration installed. We can drop this once all users are sure to have
migrated. At the same time we can make ubuntu-session depend on
unity-settings-daemon and compiz.
  * Move the upstart job from gnome-session to gnome-session-bin
  * debian/patches/50_ubuntu_sessions.patch:
- The ubuntu gnome-session requires unity-settings-daemon, not
  gnome-settings-daemon (LP: #1277487)

Bug description:
Ubuntu/Unity uses the GNOME settings daemon for settings. We've made a
lot of changes appropriate for Ubuntu and Unity (32 patches) which
makes it hard to maintain and creates a conflict for Ubuntu GNOME to
use newer upstream versions. Unity 7 will be replaced by Unity 8 in
the future which is unlikely to need a settings daemon (this
functionality will be built into the shell).

So we can continue to remain on the current version of GNOME settings
daemon but allow Ubuntu GNOME to continue to update we will create a
new project lp:unity-settings-daemon which is a copy of GNOME settings
daemon 3.8.6.1 but with appropriate renaming so both can be installed.

A number of packages that refer to gnome-settings-daemon need to be
updated to refer to unity-settings-daemon (see bug tasks).

A PPA for testing is https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/+archive

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1279012] [NEW] Online search behind proxy does not return results

2014-02-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am behind my college authenticated proxy which I have configured in
`~/.bashrc` file as follows:

export proxy=http://username:password@host:port_no/
export http_proxy=http://username:password@host:port_no/
export ftp_proxy=ftp://username:password@host:port_no/
export https_proxy=https://username:password@host:port_no/
export socks_proxy=socks://username:password@host:port_no/
export HTTP_PROXY=http://username:password@host:port_no/
export FTP_PROXY=ftp://username:password@host:port_no/
export HTTPS_PROXY=https://username:password@host:port_no/
export SOCKS_PROXY=socks://username:password@host:port_no/
export no_proxy=localhost,127.0.0.1,127.0.1.1

I did not find any configuration file for dash in which I can configure
proxy. However, I am not able to perform online search videos on youtube
for which I have installed lens using the instructions given here:
http://askubuntu.com/a/91381/72576

I expected to get video results from youtube but no results were
obtained.

I posted a question on AskUbuntu but did not get answers, which I
believe is because this is a bug- a feature request.

Important outputs:

1) lsb_release -rd

Output:
Description:Ubuntu 12.10
Release:12.10

2) apt-cache policy dash

Output:
dash:
  Installed: 0.5.7-3ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.5.7-3ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.5.7-3ubuntu1 0

 Importance: Undecided

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1277487] Re: Create Unity Settings Daemon so can remain on old GNOME Settings Daemon version

2014-02-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package unity-greeter - 14.04.3-0ubuntu1

---
unity-greeter (14.04.3-0ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release:
- Generate version stamp on background (LP: #1269901)
- Add option to disable hostname in login screen (LP: #1208469)
- Use unity-settings-daemon instead of gnome-settings-daemon (LP: #1277487)
- Fix accessible name in shutdown dialog

  /unity-control-center

This bug report is being sent while logged on with GNOME shell, which
also has been having issues since January 17th, ( see bug 1273276 )

Title:
Counters and progress bars on the launcher are blurred if the launcher
icon size is set to an odd number of pixels

Status in Unity:
  Triaged
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Using Ubuntu 12.04
  Unity version: 5.10.0-0ubuntu6

Many apologies if this is in the wrong place.

  Steps to reproduce this bug:
Change the size of icons in the Unity launcher through the appearance
settings. If the size is set to an ODD number of pixels then the counters and
progress bars that are used by some applications in the launcher are blurred.
When the size is set to an EVEN number then there is no problem.

  See attached screenshots

Obviously its not really much of an issue as what's one pixel between
friends, you can just pick an even value, but perhaps it would look
better to just restrict the values to even numbers? Or perhaps its
just my system, if so sorry for wasting anyones time. I'll include
  some screenshots for reference.

Title:
UI uses chinese, french and english simultaneously

Status in “accountsservice” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in “ubuntu-system-settings” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Not really a system-settings bugs, but I couldn't find a better place

  I selected 'chinese', rebooted
  then select 'french' rebooted

after the second reboot, 'search' on the top left is in chinese,
categories scopes and u-s-s are in French and the rest in english (I
don't know if english strings are displayed because there is a bug or
  strings are not translated)

On the screenshot you see 'Search' (in Chinese) and 'Vidéos' (in
  French)

  TEST CASE:
  1. Go to system-settings and change language to Chinese
  2. Reboot
  3. Go to system-settings and change language to French
  4. Reboot

  EXPECTED RESULT
  UI is in French

  ACTUAL RESULT
UI is in Chinese (search, HUD), French (name of the categories and
system-settings) and English (the rest)
