Title:
  accounts-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in dbus_connection_send()

Status in “accountsservice” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in “accountsservice” source package in Precise:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi. There appeared some problems with 'accountsservice' -- a D-Bus
  interface for user account query and manipulation, that honestly have
  occurred day-to-day.

  ### PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

  A few weeks ago after login as a normal user, 'accountsservice' (used for
querying and manipulating user account informations) crashed. On the beginning
it was a random incident. After a few days, 'accountsservice' crashed each time
after every user logs on. I think, that's all what I can write, to try to
describe this issue, because everything seems to be okay -- no system freezing
or slowdowns, no problems after packages update/upgrade etc.

  ### DETAILED INFORMATIONS:
  ==
  * ProblemType: Crash
  * Uname: Linux 3.2.0-51-generic-pae i686
  * Architecture: i386
  * DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 (Xubuntu 12.04 variant)
  * Package: accountsservice 0.6.15-2ubuntu9.6
  * ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu17.4
  * NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
  * Segfault happened at: 0xb76bb7c3:   mov0x10(%eax),%eax
  * Executable Path (ProcCmdline): /usr/lib/accountsservice/accounts-daemon

  Also '/var/log/apport.log' file contain some informations about this
  issue. Everything is in a attached log file.

  | Description:Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS
  | Release:12.04
  `-

  ### WHAT HAVE HAD AN IMPACT ON THIS ISSUE?
  ==
  I have no ideas, why it started to happen. Only one thing, which I've done
for a few weeks before problems with 'accountsservice' was 'conky-all' install.
Nothing more, nothing less -- no serious administrative tasks were performed
(except e.g. kernel or programs updates via APT utility or UpdateManager, but
it seems to be obvious).

  ### APPENDIX:
  =
  I would like to notice, that this issue still occurs, after next point
Xubuntu update -- from 12.04.2 to 12.04.3 version. So for now, kernel version
is; 3.2.0-55-generic-pae. Anything related with this bug, when all of this
started to happen, remains unchanged.
  One more, important, thing to mention is that - in my case -
'accountsservices' crashed even after a fresh Xubuntu 12.04 install. For more
info, please see comment #12.

  Best regards.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 792767] Re: When typing an application's name in the Dash, there is no visual cue that focus is on the first item in the list

2013-12-31 Thread Xu Bin
It should be a design bug. Adding a default focus to the first candidate
while the UI focus is the input box isn't really technically easy to
implement. But it's absolutely necessary to implement that, when I use
gnome 3 shell to do application search the first candidate is focused by
default. For any developer who wants to fix this, gnome 3
implementation is a good start, I think.

  When one is typing into the search bar on the Dash, matches to the
  search criteria automatically appear bellow, and focus is
  automatically shifted to the first item in the list. This mean that
  hitting return immediately after typing will open the first
  application in the list. This is good.

  What isn't good is that there is no visual cue telling the user that
  the first application has focus, rather the impression is given that
  they must first press the down arrow in order to move focus to the
  first application. This is illustrated in the attached screenshot.
  When I pressed [RETURN] in that particular situation, the screenshot
  utility was opened, despite there being no indication that this would
  happen.

  When the down arrow is pressed, the first application becomes
  highlighted. I think this highlight should be applied as soon as the
  first search result become available so that the user can immediately
  see that the first application is currently selected.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1165420] Re: Unable to access indicators from HUD

2013-12-31 Thread Digby
Yes I totally agree with Rüdiger Kupper (#9)

I love the new way of working that Unity provides - easy keyboard
shortcuts and minimal reliance on a 'mouse' pointing device.

Integrating options across several applications was *the* benefit of the
HUD. If I want to choose from the options of the currently focused
applications, I can simply select the preferences menu. What made the
HUD unique was that it showed options from several applications at the
same time...I suspect that some new users could have found that a tad
confusing at first but ultimately for everyone the ability to access the
indicators is a massive help.

- If this is a design decision we should not 'dumb-down' the HUD but
re-implement HUD indicator searching.
- If this is a bug then I appreciate all the work that developers are doing and
it would be really nice to get this fixed some time...

Thanks

Bug description:
  In Ubuntu 12.10 I was able to use HUD to access Messaging menu and Gwibber's
"Update Status" option there, making status updates to Twitter easy and fast.
  I could also use HUD to change my status in Empathy from Available to Busy
and vice-versa.

  In Ubuntu 13.04 Beta HUD no longer finds the "Update Status" option when
typing "Update Status" or "Update"
  Also writing "Available" "Away" or "Busy" no longer gives any results.

  Other indicators however are accessible and I can use HUD to Suspend
  my computer or to view Skype status or Ubuntu one indicator options.

  Repeating:
  1. Press alt key to start HUD
  2. Write "Update status" or "Available"

  What was expected:
  HUD should have shown options ether from Gwibber to Update Status or Empathy
to change status to Available both available from the messaging indicator.

  What happened:
  HUD didn't find any results.

  Notes:
  I have Ubuntu 13.04 Beta 64bit upgraded from Ubuntu 12.10 64bits and I'm
using proprietary fglrx drivers.

Bug description:
  x11proto-input, libxfixes, libxi, unity and unity-2d in precise needs
  updates to work with the new pointer barrier api from x1.14.

  [Impact]
   * Pointer barrier api has changed between 1.13 and 1.14.
(xorg-server-lts-saucy)
   * Modifications in unity and unity-2d are required to support both api's.

  [Test Case]
   * Update all packages.
   * Test pointer barriers on an old xorg-server, they should continue to work.
   * Test pointer barriers on the new xorg-server, they should work.

  [Regression Potential]
    * Low, it enables a separate code path for pointer barriers. The code in
unity is a bit different due to copying the rework from upstream unity and
keeping the old paths for legacy pointer barriers. Upstream dropped the old
paths.

  [Other Info]
    * It's a bit of a hack. The old pointer barrier symbols live in libxfixes,
the new ones in libxi. Because of the overlap some modifications had to be made
to allow both pointer barriers to be included. This works as well as it can.
   * Depending on the queried libxi2/libxfixes versions, old pointer barriers
or new ones are used.

  Launcher - Quit does not actually quit applications

Bug description:
  This bug report is about the Quit option listed under the context menu
  for all running programs in the Unity shell.

  I will start with examples:

   * Choosing Quit with Rhythmbox will close the main window, but the process
continues to run. (The indicator provides a duplicate Quit option that does the
right thing, but even if that was merged with the existing Quit option it would
not be a sustainable solution).
   * I have Dropbox running in the background, and Unity has cleverly added it
to the launcher panel with its indicator menu available. Choosing Quit does
nothing, because Dropbox is a daemon with no toplevel windows.

  From the looks of it, Unity is just closing every window attached to
  the application's process and wrongly assumes this will cause it to
  quit. In fact, that often does not happen, and it is a very strange,
  semantically unclear behaviour.

  Desired solution:
  - Do the right thing by sending the _process_ a QUIT signal. If a GUI app
doesn't handle that signal properly, that is its problem and it should be fixed
there.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1265251] [NEW] Lock screen dialogue in 14.04

2013-12-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I started testing Ubuntu 14.04 recently and have been carefully looking
it over. I have noticed that the shut down and restart dialogues have
been improved in the Unity Greeter and in the panel menu to give Unity a
more consistant look and feel.

The lock screen dialogue that you type in your password to unlock the
system does not have the same look and feel to it. This is not really a
bug but I thought maybe this should be mentioned before the user
interface freeze happens. Unity has a very consistant look to it and
this small detail could help to improve the experience.

Title:
  xdotool and wmctrl don't move and resize windows after they are
  (semi)maximized

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  The command

  /usr/bin/xdotool windowmove `/usr/bin/xdotool getwindowfocus` 0 0

  is supposed to move currenly selected window to the top left corner.
  It works fine on clean start, but after I maximize (or half-maximize)
  and then restore some window, it becomes "broken", and this command
  silently do nothing with it. The same holds for appropriate wmctrl
  command like

  wmctrl -i -r `/usr/bin/xdotool getwindowfocus` -e 10,0,0,-1,-1

  This affects Unity desktop, but does NOT affect Gnome shell desktop,
  so I believe it's a bug somewhere in Unity.

  The same issue is discussed in the following thread:

  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1414155&page=2

  It seems to affect both 11.10 and 12.04 (but I checked only 12.04).
