[Dovecot] Dovecot, Mail.app @ Leopard

2007-10-31 Thread DinnoM

Hi There,

I'm using dovecot-imapd 1.0.rc15-2etch1 under Debain Etch AMD64
platform,
recently, once of our user reported that there have "Unknown
Namespace" problem with the new mail.app under leopard.

So, is there a workaround at dovecot or I need to upgrade to a latest
version of dovecot?

Regards,
Dino.

As Dovecot 1.1 is becoming stable; what are your plans (timing) for the 1.1
release?

Also, will you continue to support Dovecot 1.0 (with 1.0.x bug-fix releases)
after 1.1 is finished?

  I have my messages (maildirs) and indices all stored on NFS. For locking, I
  have

  mmap_disable = yes
  and
  lock_method = dotlock

  Do you have any idea what is going on here? In general, I get tons of
  errors about corrupted transaction log files for all users. Is this normal?

  Thanks

  Jeff

Do you have more than one server accessing the same indexes on NFS? Without
turning off the NFS access cache on each server (slow) thats a bad idea in 1.0.
To get around this, I use this:

mail_location =
maildir:~/Maildir:CONTROL=%h/Maildir/dovecot/private/control:INDEX=/cache/dovecot/%u/private/indexes

Where CONTROL is shared on NFS but INDEX is on a local partition. If the user
doesn't access mail very often and logs into random servers, they run the chance of

having an empty cache, but thats better than corruption and this has been
working
solidly for me. I'll be testing out 1.1 soon which when setup properly should
allow
sharing INDEX on NFS safely, not to mention more self healing.

I would delete that users index files at the minimum.

Hello, will that problem of sharing the indexes in 1.0.5 also happen
under GFS?

Since this is so old, you should upgrade regardless of if it fixes this
particular problem or not..

I'm encountering lots of

The errors appear in pairs like this one:
Oct 31 11:20:01 postamt dovecot: pipe() failed: Too many open files
Oct 31 11:20:01 postamt dovecot: imap-login: Internal login failure:
user=, method=PLAIN, rip=193.175.174.239, lip=141.42.4.250, TLS

What gives?

[Dovecot] Authentication

2007-10-31 Thread Isaac Scott
Hi

I am looking to use dovecot with postfix/amavis/spamassasin and would
like to be able to deliver spam/virus emails into specific virtual user
folders.

I wanted to know if it is possible to authenticate user for IMAP and
POP3 access seperately using a database?

All I have seen in the documentation/wiki is a single query for
authentication.

Isaac

If you're looking for something iPhone-compatible, then "no." Theirs is
a proprietary system which from what I've read, seems to use SMS in
combination with IMAP. Wacky.

(If you aren't talking about iPhone compatibility, I'm less
knowledgeable, but dovecot does support IDLE-style "imap push" style
notification.)

When I removed the spaces and quotes from the S line of the qf file
S<"AMS Publication Division"@ams.org>  ->  S<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
the mail delivered normally.

Hmm, seems yes. Osx Leopard built in Mail application have now the IDLE
check box. Does it mean, that now need to use the classic "check for
new mail after xx minute" at all? Btw, seems in Thunderbird this imap
push works well.

Isn't one downside to IDLE that only the current selected folder works?

Ie, if you are in a folder other than Inbox, you wouldn't get IDLE
notifications of anything in the Inbox until you selected that folder?
