[DNSOP] Approved: draft-ietf-dnsop-avoid-fragmentation

2024-09-27 Thread Warren Kumari
Hi there Authors, IESG, WG, and Secretariat,

draft-ietf-dnsop-avoid-fragmentation - "IP Fragmentation Avoidance in DNS
over UDP"
 is
now approved.

I'd like to thank everyone, especially the authors and Benno Overeinder,
for all of their diligent hard work to get this done.

This document was rough one, and sat in my queue for an exceptionally long
time while we got agreement on how to address the last set of concerns.

I'd like to thank everyone again for their collegiate attitude, willingness
to hear and consider each other's viewpoints, and patience.

Thank you,
W

[DNSOP] Document Action: 'IP Fragmentation Avoidance in DNS over UDP' to Informational RFC (draft-ietf-dnsop-avoid-fragmentation-20.txt)

2024-09-27 Thread The IESG
The IESG has approved the following document:
- 'IP Fragmentation Avoidance in DNS over UDP'
  (draft-ietf-dnsop-avoid-fragmentation-20.txt) as Informational RFC

This document is the product of the Domain Name System Operations Working
Group.

The IESG contact persons are Warren Kumari and Mahesh Jethanandani.

A URL of this Internet-Draft is:
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-dnsop-avoid-fragmentation/

Technical Summary

While EDNS0 provides a mechanism for the DNS to use large UDP packets,
IP fragmentation is not perfect. This document proposes techniques to
avoid IP fragmentation in DNS, and provides advice to DNS operators.

Working Group Summary

The working group had a few issues to work through. There are no remaining
issues and
there is solid consensus on the final document. The document was initially sent
to
the IESG, and then returned to the WG (at the authors / chairs / WGs request)
to have an implementation section added. This has (IMO) significantly improved
the utility of the document.

Document Quality

The document is clear, and of good quality.

Personnel

   Tim Wicinski is DS
Warren Kumari is RAD (and easily amused)
