The live installer won't do what you want. Use one of the installer isos - netinstall or server iso are best choices for what you want, but even the desktop dvd will do it. fsmithred ___ Dng mailing list Dng@lists.dyne.org https://mailinglists.dyne.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dng

If this key combo really changed something "in hardware", i assume that a "hard reset" of the notebook(?!) should solve the issue... Usually, this is accomplished by removing all power sources and periphery, and then holding down the power button for 15-20 seconds. The idea is to remove any stored electricity (from ac adapter, battery, capacitors) to clear all non-persistent storage. Your devices miles may vary, the manual should mention it. libre grüße, Florian -- Florian Zieboll Hauptstraße 6a D-68535 Edingen Telefon: +49 6203 925 78 36 Mobil: +49 160 690 15 87 E-Mail: f.zieb...@web.de PGP keyID: 0xEE454979FE441FD6 Chat / xmpp: f.zieb...@xabber.de Chat / matrix: @florian_zieboll:feneas.org WWW: https://www.zwischenspeicher.info [message sent otg] ___ Dng mailing list Dng@lists.dyne.org https://mailinglists.dyne.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dng
[DNG] How to adjust mouse characteristics?
Hello, Devuan Beowulf AMD64 Is there a configuration file somewhere that allows adjustment of mouse resolution and acceleration? Gpm is not installed by default and I haven't been able to find anything (USB) mouse related. Best regards, Fred ___ Dng mailing list Dng@lists.dyne.org https://mailinglists.dyne.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dng

Best regards, Fred ___ It is my understanding that persistent changes to xorg settings can be accomplished by adding files to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ directory. Temporary changes can be made using xset. There are examples in the archlinux wiki at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mouse_acceleration Hope this helps. Early attempts were made with acceleration, turning mousing into a golf game, with a drive, a green shot, and then a couple putts. Later they had a "resolution" property, but that vanished some time around the end of the housing bubble. What I've found is best is: 1) Use a good quality, high resolution mouse. 2) Use it on a high quality, clean mousepad. 3) Keep the led/light detector clean I've found that "Blue Trace" mice work best with Linux. They reliably report new positions every quarter of a human hair diameter (well, I never measured it, but that's how it seemed). Best I ever saw was the following: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Blackweb-Bluetrace-Weighted-Mouse/44459955 Unfortunately, I think it stopped being manufactured. Targus makes a blue trace mouse: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Targus-Wireless-BlueTrace-Mouse-AMW50US/14262061 But annoyingly the Targus mouse shuts itself off after a few minutes of inactivity, so you have to physically click on and off on the little fingernail switch on the bottom to use it if you spent that last 10 minutes reading a page instead of mousing. It's disconcerting. But when you mouse, it works well, and I've found you don't need any further sensitivity enhancement. As long as the specifications for pointer devices are met, I doubt that make and model of the device have serious impact on its configurability - but I must confess that I have been happily sticking with this marble thing for many years now. As already mentioned by Ken in another reply, the arch wiki (once again) is an outstanding resource regarding this topic. Of course the performance can be improved by keeping things somewhat clean: No more "emergency cigarettes" from turning the keyboard upside down ;-) libre Grüße, Florian -- [message sent otg] ___ Dng mailing list Dng@lists.dyne.org https://mailinglists.dyne.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dng

Otherwise on my Beowulf installation there are 462 files to do with "mouse" covering its use in various programs. The few looked at didn't seem to be text config files. Since i do almost all my work in xterms or a gui, that covers my needs. Perhaps if you explained your need exactly, someone may be able to assist. FWIW, my biggest problem with mice is finding one that fits my hand comfortably and I've never found a solution by spending $$$. Weirdly, since the days of mouse port cars. basic 'microsoft' mice have always worked best. YMMV. ___ Dng mailing list Dng@lists.dyne.org https://mailinglists.dyne.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dng

The 'desk' is actually a slab of kitchen bench top covered with a nice looking laminex(?) called yellow pepper or some such. Works great with all optical mice and the only maintennce is an occassional brush out of fluff in the optic and a desk wipe down with a basic cleaner. After 30+ years, the only problem is a growing worn patch from sliding my wrist around. ___ Dng mailing list Dng@lists.dyne.org https://mailinglists.dyne.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dng
