[DNG] KDE Problems on ASCII

2018-04-16 Thread Antonio Trkdz.tab
Dear All,

I have been installing ASCII from the netinst image and I wanted to try KDE
out.

There is a problem with permits policy (from what I can guess) because it
is not possible to shutdown or halt the system from the DE itself and it is
not possible to mount usb sticks.

This happens upon selecting lightdm when prompted during the installation.

I have installed on another partition on the same machine the
plasma-desktop package on top of a working MATE installation and the system
works correctly when I deleted lightdm and let slim do the DM work. I have
also installed kdesudo, polkit-kde-1 packages and substituted
libpolkit-gobject-1-0-systemd with libpolkit-gobject-1-0-consolekit.

It would be nice to solve this so KDE can be installed correctly.

Cheers!

Hi Antonio,

you need libpolkit-gobject-1-0-elogind for KDE to work. There is a
known problem in the polkit packages in ASCII beta. In you case,
installing libpolkit-gobject-1-0-elogind anbd
libpolkit-backend-1-0-elogind should solve your problem.

Re: [DNG] lsb_release on ascii

2018-04-16 Thread aitor_czr

Hi Tom,

On 16/04/18 02:40, Tom wrote:

I installed two virtual machines running Devuan jessie and upgraded both to Devuan ascii
using the same method. After upgrading, I can see they have differing output for the
command "lsb_release -a".

rppt@devuan1:/# lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Devuan
Description: Devuan GNU/Linux testing/unstable
Release: testing/unstable
Codename: n/a

root@devuan2:/# lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Devuan
Description: Devuan GNU/Linux 2.0 (ascii)
Release: 2.0
Codename: ascii

I'm guessing the output for devuan2 is correct? How do I fix devuan1 to show
the correct output?

Both machines have the same identical contents for /etc/os-release,
/etc/debian_version, and /etc/devuan_version.

The output of  'lsb_release -a' is defined in the 'base-files' package.
So, for the same version of the package, you should get the same output.
The command needs the 'lsb-base' package to work, i think.

Cheers,

  Aitor.

I just checked and both machines have both packages installed at the same
version.

base-files: 9.9+devuan2.3
lsb-base: 4.1+devuan2

I noticed this problem was occurring when I added Devuan support to the
official nodejs installer script which relies on output of “lsb_release -c -s”.

Running that command on the devuan2 machine will return “ascii” while running
it on devuan1 returns “n/a”.

I’ve also seen other people on the nodejs bug report having the same issue
while attempting to install nodejs on ascii.

Thanks KatolaZ. That helped. I was doing the /sdX1. Now when it
tries to load files, I it says the files are corrupted. Download was
good.
