[DNG] LXC template

2015-09-27 Thread Nuno Magalhães
Greetings

Is there an LXC template for devuan? Or, has anyone tried modding the
one for debian? Is it a drop-in replacement?

Cheers,
Nuno

Re: [DNG] LXC template

2015-09-27 Thread Nuno Magalhães
Answering self,

using the gentoo template as base:

-- MIRROR=${MIRROR:-http://http.debian.net/debian}
++ MIRROR=${MIRROR:-http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/merged/}

-- configure_debian_systemd $path $rootfs
++ #configure_debian_systemd $path $rootfs

lxc-create -n lxcdev -f /path/to/your/lxc.conf -t
/usr/share/lxc/templates/lxc-devuan
lxc-start -n lxcdev

myuser@lxcdev:~$ ps -ef|head -2
UIDPID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD
root 1 0 0 14:12 ?00:00:00 /sbin/init

Uses about 378M, 135 packages installed.

However, i see these in top:
root20 1 0 14:12 ?00:00:00 /lib/systemd/systemd-udevd
root 128 1 0 14:21 ?00:00:00 /lib/systemd/systemd-journald

So it's a work in progress.

Cheers,
Nuno

[DNG] Anyone wanting to create a set of icons for netman?

2015-09-27 Thread Edward Bartolo
Hi All,

Now that netman has been systray enabled, I need someone with some
artistic ability to create a set of three icons for netman.

These will be used as follows:
a) icon for connected state
b) icon for disconnected state
c) icon for attempting to connect state

Yes, I've seen this request before. My back is still quite painful to sit and
do most anything. At least I can now manage to cook - trying to regain the
weight I lost when I couldn't. (Whoopee . . . now up to 105 lbs. Must have
gotten way under 100 those first months.) At least I can do a few necessary
things around the house and drive to buy groceries. House hasn't been cleaned
in 5 months - vacuuming is out of the question for now. I think you get the
picture. I've been waiting for weeks to have a good enough back day to be able
to install alpha2. So sorry . . . no icons will be coming from this direction.
 Please don't take my lack of participation personally . . . :) I appreciate
your Netman contribution (even though I have no need for it - always wired) and
look forward to seeing your next project(s)!

Could you please give me more details about what such a project would
involve? What is the package name we are after, and what does it do?

You don't need to give me many details, you only need to set me on the
right path, and I will continue from there on.

[DNG] Devuan Constitu..?

2015-09-27 Thread natacha

The topic of Devuan Constitution (or is it the right word) deserves a
discussion so it might be the moment to start a new thread.

There is already a draft0 on the git wiki, wrote I think by nextime
and one by hellekin

It addresses most of the issues, only some work needs to be put into
clarifying some concepts and making things more precise.

There is also stated a clear decisional process that includes possible
feedback from the community, it also described in a very minimalistic
but efficient manner.

The goal is not only to define processes that will never lead to
decisions that are not supported by the community, but even further to
provide the terrain for discussions and input from the community.

Therefore a dedicated mailing list open on invitations will be created
by Jaromil to discuss those issues.

As for my involvment, I am still on the first contact and do think
that as it was mentioned a *roadmap* would be an amazing document
useful (also) to keep track of the processes happening in Devuan, as a
form of documentation.

Any feedback on those topics is welcome.

Considering

https://www.daniweb.com/programming/software-development/threads/352855/ncurses-memory-leak-problem
http://invisible-island.net/ncurses/ncurses.faq.html#config_leaks
http://valgrind.10908.n7.nabble.com/valgrind-with-curses-library-td33748.html

the issue seems to be more on of interpreting the valgrind output
incorrectly: It didn't report any memory leaks (allocated memory which
is no longer reachable) but that the library allocated memory it
retained for future use which is still reachable.

Hi jonathan,

No nothing has been done up to now, while there is quite a history to
the process already.
So perhaps it would be useful to retrace why and how most important
decisions were taken.

The way to do it is the interrogation, the process should not
interfeer with the dynamics already in place, but rather help to find
more stable grouds. There is already quite some material out there.

cheers
