Re: Input on anticompetitive characteristic of public code

Hi,

   Now my questions:
  * How can we oppose the argument that publicly financed software
released as

   Free Software is anticompetitive?
   * What can we bring up on the other hand in favor of publishing as

   (except the usual non-dependencies)

They are asking to assure that people pay multiple times for the same
work.

This is not a question of competition but of getting a rent on something
you have already being paid to do. And yes whenever a publicly financed
software
is released, it breaks some sort of undue windfall economy. It is not a
problem,

it is a feature.

The anticompetitiveness is the fact that proprietary software does not
allow all

IT company to compete for providing support or new features.
This is what Free Software assures.
It is thus the opposite of anticompetitive.

Re: Anonymous Voting System

2020-03-31 Thread Cryptie
Hi all,

Yes Reinhard there have been a lot of work on voting system in crypto those
last years. ;)

At the same time it is usually less easy to use.

If you want a good solution (not for political elections ;) ) look at Helios.

It is free software and state of the art for voting . In fact, it is the
solution we use at the iacr (international association for cryptological
research).

Re: Help with gathering resources for how to learn programming for children book

2021-10-12 Thread Cryptie
Hi all,

What do you think about adding scratch ?
It is a great way for young kids to learn algorithmic and having something fun
fast.

We use it in my association with 5y.o. so they can start fast...

BUT
1) They don't provide scratch 3.0 on GNU/Linux (it is installable but it
requires a parent able to find and follow a command-line tutorial to install it
or you can use one of the website providing it and play in a browser...).

2) it is a modified BSD licence (+/-) to limit the use of the name Scratch.
