Re: uploading shapes issue and possible solution question

2013-01-09 Thread tpkyteroo luebeck
I uninstalled and reinstalled Dia. Dia kept bombing on me and thinking all
shapes I was uploading was 1a.shape.

Question: How do I get dia-shape installer to install the Alchemy shapes
for me? What ever URL I put on the sheets page is useless, apparently. I
even went to the link in the other sheet files and I get a redirect to the
gnome site. That tells me that it doesn't read the link in the sheet file
and that I must be doing something wrong because it won't even recognize my
file.
Thanks!

1) This is the formatting of my sheet:
*
  cementation box lid*

2) The sheet xmlns url should be what? I was going to put my stuff at
www.globalwritersclub.com/z/dia/

3) I did name the sheet alchemy.sheet.

4) I did rearrange the alchemy.zip folder exactly how the others were
arranged.
Thanks!

Re: dia shape repository: New Alchemy set

2013-01-09 Thread Michael Ross
You got to get the file syntax just right. Anything that is malformed may
mess it up. I have no good advise except try a simpler sheet first. i am
not good at the shapes and sheets thing so maybe others will lend a hand.

It should be what it is for all other shapes: you're not defining your own
namespace.

http://www.lysator.liu.se/~alla/dia/dia-sheet-ns";>

http://www.daa.com.au/~james/dia-shape-ns";

I.e., how?
It should be

/ (archive root)
+ sheets
| \ here's your sheet
+ shapes
  |
  + alchemy
\ here's your shapes

object-type errors

2013-01-09 Thread tpkyteroo luebeck
" several object-types were named alchemy - 1a... There are 47 similiar
messages. "
What I did, was reinstalled dia from start. I put copied the alchemy shapes
that were already made into the dia/shapes folder.
I copied the alchemy.sheet into the sheet folder. I then made the new sheet
using the Dia editor to get new sheet listed.
Lastly, I started adding the shapes to the sheet. Every images from
1f.shape is a broken image. 1aa.shape is broekn. 1a.shape works.
Is the issue my naming of the shapes 1aa.shape and 1a.shape is seen as
identical?
Thanks! (Hopefully, this time my zip file isn't attached. :P Sorry about
that!) And, if the shapes can be uploaded to the website, perhaps I can get
a direct email to send a NEW zip to so that the entire list isn't getting
spam zips from me? Many thanks! And yes, the images should be in the public
domain, so should be fine under the license you want to give it. If the zip
can be used on the site, then I have a friend who would download it and use
dia-shape installer to install it.
Thanks again! :D

Re: object-type errors - update! blank image

2013-01-09 Thread tpkyteroo luebeck
Last email from me until I get a response: This is the steps I did this
time.
1) reinstalled Dia.
2) used a clean folder with only the png pictures in it, (and no .shape
images as I deleted those).
3) put that folder in dia's shape folder, inside a folder named alchemy.
4) made a new sheet called alchemy and put it in dia's sheet folder.
5) I opened the png in dia. exported it to .shape.
6) I used sheets-objects option to put .shape on sheet, navigating to the
file in the alchemy folder, thats in the shape folder.
7) I apply, and then close.
8) I close Dia and reopen dia. The image picture is on the tab, for the
alchemy sheet, but when I put that image in my new diagram, the image is
blank.
Note: I still get the error message that says too many objects named 1a
exists.
Thanks!
.ps I love the program. I love that I can make the background colour fit my
needs. And with this, I will bequiet as I might have found a bug perhaps,
or I'm doing something very wrong and don't know it. lol

Re: Couldn't find Composition symbol in UML in dia windows while aggregation is there.

2013-01-09 Thread Michael Ross
Hi Sujit,

So, now you are experiencing open source software. We all hope you get you
moneys worth ;-)

Whoever created the symbols for the UML sheet apparently did not need the
composition symbol.

You have a couple choices how to deal with this.

Learn to create your own symbols and add it to the sheet is probably the
best and most likely solution.

Next best, in order to work around learning to make symbols and sheets, you
can simply create from Dia entities a symbol that looks the way you want
it. Group it, and copy and paste it whenever you need it.

The third option is to persuade someone else to volunteer to make it and
enter it into the sheet. Keep in mind that it is no one's job to do this.
You need to persuade some to take on this task for you,

You will need to present very clearly exactly what you want. No one will
want to volunteer to make it and then find out it isn't what you had in
mind. It is not clear to me that there is a universal set of UML symbols
(but I do not use them so that is no surprise). If I knew how to make
shapes, I still would have no idea what your composition symbol should look
like.

But, even then, it is entirely possible that no one will want to volunteer,
so be prepared. it would not be personal rejection, it might be that no
one has time.

Mike
