RE: Installing dia 0.89pre1 on Win2k

2002-02-26 Thread Tom Sorensen

Looked at bugzilla briefly yesterday but it wasn't clear if it was actively
being utilized.

I'll confirm the arrow key bug - kinda. The arrow keys actually do move
you, but the cursor doesn't move. (e.g. - type "" into a text object,
back arrow twice, type "b" and you end up with "aabaa" although the cursor
is still at the end of the object).

Wish I could offer to try and fix the issues, but have zero time at the
moment.

There's another bug to dia Win32 0.89pre1:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70597
The arrow keys are not working in text objects.
I would like to know if other users can confirm
this particular bug.

I hope that Hans (or another volunteer
capable of building dia under windows) finds the
time to provide new binaries (with the ping and
text object bugs fixed) soon.

Do you think it's worth creating a new installer
for registry entry problem? The real problem are
dlls from older dia versions that crash dia
upon startup, if they are not removed.

Hi,

I looked for these snapshots on http://www.lysator.liu.se/~alla/dia/dia.html

autogen.sh since after 88.1. Could you give me a pointer to the snapshots?

Each day after a commit has been made to the CVS archive, the Dia ChangeLog
Daemon posts a changelog diff and a pointer to the snapshot it builds. I'm
fairly sure google has plenty of references nowadays.

IMO using some strange Micros~1 definition is _not_ the right way to go.
Problems like this should probably used on the toolkit level.

It probably will vanish, when g_get_home_dir() from glib-1.3 (than 2.0)
is used.
It returns the homedir; if not available the tmpdir; if not available
"C:\". And all the people not reading any FAQ but starting complains
have probably deserved to get the C: root dir filled with junk
and they probably won't even notice :-)

so you are saying that dia asks glib for the homedir
and that the problem needs to be fixed in glib?
does dia need to use newer/different version of glib?

i would like to fix this permanently but im not a brilliant programmer, im
not familiar with the dia source code and i would appreciate help.

i know dia is intended for more technical users, but ideally it would work
and they would not have to read the FAQ in the first place.

As you are the one who did the windows report im sure you are sick and
tired of windows users asking stupid questions and can empathise. If
and/or when linux is more popular there will be lots of linux users asking
stupid questions. Saying they deserved it does not help anyone (but
your right they probably would not notice anyway).

Looks like libxml1 (both binary and -devel packages) is not installed. Have
you read the NEWS file, ran ./configure and had no errors from that program ?

By the way, it is generally considered dangerous to run anything but
real administrative commands as root -- you don't need to be root to compile
anything, do you ?

gtk+-devel is probably the equivalent of gtk-devel for another distro with a
slightly different packaging policy as yours. You're probably fine using
gtk-devel, as long as this RPM comes from your distro's site.

i do not have libxml1 (binary or -devel packages) that i know of. i read
through the NEWS file but that doesn't say much about installation
problems (unless i missed something -which happens from time to time).
there were no errors from tunning ./configure

i hear ya on the warning on being logged in as root. i usually su to
root anytime i'm installing software. thanks for the warning.

I nearly got it but...

xml-config is missing, because I installed libxml2 :-(

Now, have I to uninstall this version and go to an old one or is there

install the -devel package from libxml2; normally, ./configure will pick up
xml2-config.

RE: Problem getting dia installed

2002-02-26 Thread Young, Robert

Previously you wrote
> i have libxml-1.8.15-ximian.2

You will need to install the devel package from the same place you installed
this package (Ximian??).

RH7.2 comes with libxml-1.8.14-2 and libxml-devel-1.8.14-2 which are too
old. If you downloaded libxml-1.8.15-ximian.2, try downloading the
libxml-devel-1.8.15-ximian.2 from
http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=libxml-devel

Or, you can use libxml2 which you will need both the package and the
development package. The general rule is if you require a package to run an
application then you will need the development package to compile it.

Hope you slept well.

Rob.

Floor plans?

2002-02-26 Thread Greg Trounson

Greetings,

I have used the latest version of Dia to draw up a floorplan of an
existing split-level house.

This was no easy task, as none of dia's built-in widgets have common
floorplan-style symbols such as walls, windows and doors. I instead
resorted to a combination of lines, polygons and bezier curves. It also
revealed (IMHO) a few shotcomings of dia, especially in the area of
scaling to arbitrary units. I gave up on trying to make it to scale in
the end.

Is there any plan to incorporate a widget/shape/sheet (pardon my
terminology, I don't know what they're really called) with building plan
graphics? I understand that making plug-in shapes and sheets in XML is
relatively easy. Has anyone done this?

I recall visio having menus where you could insert benchtops, tables,
and "Room Measurement" widgets.

thank you,
Greg
