Hi Mike (and Calle)

When you say

Does that mean 10.000 personalized (distinct) emails in one go, or is it a
generic email going out to 10.000 email addresses in one go?

Re: [Dhis2-devs] Removing the limit on the number of users to send a message

2016-10-25 Thread Mike Nelushi
Hi Halvdan,

We send a generic email going out to 10.000 email addresses in one go most
of the time, but the main issue is the email limitation.

Mike

Re: [Dhis2-devs] Removing the limit on the number of users to send a message

2016-10-25 Thread Halvdan Hoem Grelland
Ok, I see.

The limitation is there for a reason. Although it might be very low right
now, I suspect churning out 10k emails directly from dhis2 will cause
issues. They would be sent as 10k single messages through the configured
SMTP which will be slow and might cause issues downstream as well (think
rouge SMTP blacklisting etc).

Did you consider using a third party bulk email service, triggered by DHIS2
somehow?

Re: [Dhis2-devs] Removing the limit on the number of users to send a message

2016-10-25 Thread Calle Hedberg
Halvdan

I think you have a point here - it would make sense to have both options,
actually:

1. Remove the limitation, BUT
2. With an option to "export" a list of email addresses and the message to
a bulk email server when the number of email recipients are above a Systems
Setting specified number.

The main challenge is likely to be security, in the sense that the Dept of
Health will NOT be willing to use a commercial service for this since it
would give such a service access to all the emails for specific groups like
all health graduates or all health staff (which they might misuse or sell
to other companies doing marketing).

So we need to identify either a piece of open source software that can be
incorporated into DHIS2 or at least run in parallel with DHIS2 - both will
take a list of emails and a message and then bulk mail them out. I see
sourceforge have a bunch of FOSS email senders, but not sure which is best
(if any). Could be a commercial variety too, of course - I would not expect
high cost.

Regards
Calle

 Hi Lars/Morten,

We want to remove the limit on the number of users to send a
DHIS2(2.23) message. At the moment the limit is 200 users per group.

I would like to implement this change since we have a system that need
to send 10 000+ emails to our users for notifications.

Was the limitation created to resolve server health issues when sending
 bulk emails?

Re: [Dhis2-devs] Visualisation of Data Element of Value Type - Organisation Unit

2016-10-25 Thread Abyot Asalefew Gizaw
Hi,

Value types ORGANISATION_UNIT and COORDINATE are new additions. Handling
the data entry part is the first step, the next step is the analysis part
which is coming.

Probably a mistake to have a half baked solutions. However, there are users
who export data and do visualizations using separate systems.

Re: [Dhis2-devs] Visualisation of Data Element of Value Type - Organisation Unit

2016-10-25 Thread Jason Pickering
We have handled this by creating aggregate data elements in a dataset
assigned to the secondary orgunit. With a script , we imported the
aggregated data into the secondary orgunit (after aggregating from
events),and things worked as normal in the analytics.

It's a limited approach, but this is one of those issues which is very
challenging to make as a generic feature. You may want to consider this
type of ETL approach until it's sorted out in the core .

Jason

Re: [Dhis2-devs] Configuration of approvals in 2.25

2016-10-25 Thread Jim Grace
I get the same results. In 2.24 and earlier I am able to save a new
approval level with no category option group set. But 2.25 does not allow
me to do so.

Note that this is not related to the new category combination field that we
will be adding to approval workflows in 2.26. This has always been an
optional field for approval levels.

Also in 2.25 when adding or updating a data set, there is no field for data
approval workflow. It was there in 2.24.

[Dhis2-devs] Maintenance App: translations erased after element edition

2016-10-25 Thread Victor Garcia
Hi all,

we have detected a buggy behavior in Maintenance App regarding
translations. Let's suppose we have a dataelement with some translations.
If we open the dataelement for edition, and update it, then the
translations are erased.

This issue can be easily tested in demo server, and it affects at least
dataelements, dataelementgroups and indicators.

Regards,

Víctor

Re: [Dhis2-devs] Visualisation of Data Element of Value Type - Organisation Unit

2016-10-25 Thread Calle Hedberg
Abyot,

have you fixed the issue of the uid being displayed for value type
ORGANISATION_UNIT instead of as expected the NAME?

I saw when testing 2.25 yesterday the the COORDINATE data type is now
having coordinates rounded to six decimals, so that's fixed.

The double-display of TEXT value fields without optionsets is also critical
to fix.

calle

 Hi,

We are now using the latest 2.25 DHIS version. The new feature "*Data
Element of value type organisation unit*" proves to be extremely
useful to us. We have a use-case where we want to record the geo-locations
(villages) of each individual patient at the Heath Centre they attend. And
this feature seems a right approach for us, to be used for this purpose
where these locations will be part of the master organisation unit
hierarchy and can be selected from the list shown for the data element.

We have configured a tracker type data element of value type 'org
unit', assigned to a Program and stored some data. However, when we tried
to visualise this data collected for that data element, through Event
Reports and Event Visualiser app, it gives an error saying "No series items
selected". Also, since the value of the data element is a string (which is
the UID of the org. unit), we are not clear as to how we could visualise
this data element. Ideally, what we need is a COUNT of the number of times
a geo-location (some org. unit) selected.

We also tried to use program indicators to form an expression that can
give the desired result. But, that data element doesn't even come up in the
box, where we choose data elements and form expressions. Only number type
 data elements show up here.

Is there any other way we could use aggregation and visualisation for
 this new data element type?
Could you also please let us know the road map for the visualisation
capabilities of this new data element.

Any help here would be appreciated.

 Hi,

Value types ORGANISATION_UNIT and COORDINATE are new additions.
Handling the data entry part is the first step, the next step is the
 analysis part which is coming.

Probably a mistake to have a half baked solutions. However, there are
users who export data and do visualizations using separate systems.

[Dhis2-devs] Fwd: complex category combo for Datasets doesn't show outputs

Subject: complex category combo for Datasets doesn't show outputs
To: DHIS 2 Users list

Hi DHIS2 Community

I am wondering if assigning complex category combinations to a DATASET will
work. I have a use case where the activities are supported by 2 donors and
hence data is accounted in 2 different projects. I created a dataset shown
as below. Although on in(or even any 2 categories like both the donors),
the report shows no values.

In a similar case, where I assign a complex category combo to a data
element, everything works fine.
Am I doing something wrong here?? Kindly help
