rawhide update today crashes Xorg

could ssh into the broken box
no login screen

instead:
"Oh no! Something has gone wrong.
A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. Please contact a system 
administrator"

the admin is usually me, but no "dnf history undo ..." is available

what to do ?

some notes after the update:
- gdm update needs a reboot 
- after that the option to choose Xorg is there again, but trying to login with 
Xorg just throws me back to the login screen; wayland is fine.
