Wine 10.2

2025-03-03 Thread Michael Cronenworth

Hi all,

The latest version of Wine (Windows compatibility binaries) has introduced a new
architecture of loading itself with a new "WoW64" system. Microsoft's "WoW64" allows
32-bit binaries to run within a 64-bit environment. Wine has traditionally supported
this with pointing to files in /usr/lib for 32-bit and /usr/lib64 for 64-bit.
Starting with 10.2 the architecture now searches for binaries in the same library
path for both arches. Meaning /usr/lib for both 32-bit and 64-bit and /usr/lib64 for
both.

An easy update for Fedora is to symlink the /usr/lib/wine directories to
/usr/lib64/wine and vice versa. The differing arch binaries would not live in the
wrong path, but the symlinks have me doubting this as a good solution. This
primarily affects upgrades of existing Wine installations using the old WoW64
architecture. The symlinks are not required for new Wine installations.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Michael

What is the plan in June since that will be in the middle of Fedora 42 and
I think even before Fedora 43 is branched?

Heads Up - Kubernetes v1.29 EOL

2025-03-03 Thread Brad Smith
Kubernetes v1.29 is EOL along with CRI-O v1.29 and CRI-Tools v1.29.

Updates to the kubernetes1.29, cri-o1.29, cri-tools1.29 versioned
packages will no longer happen in Fedora (currently in F41, F42, F43).
I will mark these rpms as retired for F43 (rawhide) and possibly for
F42.

Fedora 40 and 41 also have v1.29 as the default, unversioned
kubernetes and cri-tools packages. I strongly encourage any using the
unversioned v1.29 packages to update your cluster using the versioned
packages (e.g. kubernetes1.30 - EOL in June 2025).

I am reluctant to update unversioned Kubernetes to a v1.30 release as
this could result in an unplanned and disruptive update to end-users
Kuberbetes clusters.

best regards

Brad

force merging of the remaining pull requests for sysusers

2025-03-03 Thread Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek
Hi fellow packagers,

About three weeks ago, pull requests to convert packages to use sysusers
and/or to drop calls to %sysusers_create_compat were filed. So far
50% have been merged or otherwise handled (149 merged, 29 closed, 178
remaining).
In the beginning quite a few PRs were merged quickly, but now the
speed has dropped to < 1/day, so it'd take a very long time before
all are merged.

The first group (addition of sysusers config) is needed before we
try to reenable hard dependencies in rpm. Thus, in about a week, I'll
use my provenpackager privileges to merge those PRs in the first group
where there has been no reply in the pull request.

Below is the list of PRs to merge. They all pass CI or the CI failed
for unrelated reasons. I'll look at each PR before merging, so if
there is an ongoing discussion or requests from the maintainers, I'll
not merge the PR. (Some are false positives in the sense that there
already are comments there. I don't have a automatic way of filtering
those out.)

As discussed previously, those PRs are for rawhide, but also work for
F42. They are not compatible with F41- or EPEL. They can be used as a
good basis for making a version that backwards compatible, for folks
that want to maintain a single branch. Please use/change the PR as you
see fit, just let me know in a comment or close the PR.

I just orphaned compat-readline5 [0] as I don't need it anymore and the

for the taking.

If I remember correctly, the method documented here also does not work
any longer.
Recent versions of DNF run some kind of "transaction check" that will
complain about conflicting files
(since it doesn't know that the scriptlets would resolve the conflict
programmatically during the transaction).

Emacs CVEs - currently only updated in F42 (in testing) and F43

2025-03-03 Thread Michel Lind
Dear all,

There's a couple of recent Emacs CVEs announced in oss-security:

https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2025/02/26/2

https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2025-1244
https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2024-53920

Upstream recommends everyone upgrades immediately:
https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/info-gnu/2025-02/msg9.html

And indeed, RHEL 9 already has the fix backported
https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2025:1915

... and also Debian:
https://lists.debian.org/debian-backports/2025/02/msg8.html

For Fedora it looks like the new version has only been built for F42 and F43
https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/?search=30.1&packages=emacs

we should probably
- request that the f42 update be waived from the beta freeze
- also update F41 and F40? <-- happy to prepare PRs if that helps speed things
along

Best regards,

Yeah.. as far as Fedora is concerned rebasing is probably less
troublesome than trying to figure out which patch to cherry-pick.

FWIW this is what CentOS Stream 9 uses, so likely what is in the RHEL 9
errata as well:

https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/rpms/emacs/-/commit/8e595a514f20e03f11232fd50dbb01bd867266c5

It seems to fix only the 2025-1244 CVE and left 2024-53920 unaddressed.

RPM poorly handles changing symlinks to directories (or vice versa?). This
shortcoming can be mitigated with an RPM scriptlet, but scriptlets are frown
by OSTree distribution systems.

In case you will need to revert the symlink, your could have problems.

COPR custom build script failing

2025-03-03 Thread Peter Hutterer
Hi all,

This feels like it should be easy but I can't seem to figure it out.
Two weeks ago my custom build script started failing:
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/whot/libinput-git/builds/

The failing part is... the mockbuild command?

Finish: chroot init

Copr build error: Build failed

That part is outside my control, the custom script hasn't changed in
years, it's a curl + chmod + exec but it looks like I don't event get to
that point.

I manually submitted builds too but there there doesn't appear to be a
toggle I can change to make this magically pass.

Does anyone have any clue what's going on here? Thanks.

Cheers,
  Peter
