subscription-manager orphaned

2024-11-30 Thread Maxwell G

Hi everyone,
It seems https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/subscription-manager
(and related packages) were orphaned last week.
subscription-manager is needed in Fedora to support
  https://rpm-software-management.github.io/mock/Feature-rhelchroots.html
(Mock builds for EPEL in RHEL chroots) and UBI podman containers
(including fedrq's rhel8 and rhel9 containers) for users with Red
Hat or free Red Hat Developer subscriptions. This package will be
retired from rawhide in 6 weeks if nobody takes action, which
  would be unfortunate.

Best,
Maxwell

indeed, seems like I've messed with my repoquery command.
That said, as mentioned with my vlc PR
https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/vlc/pull-request/9#comment-232018
While VLC can use ffmpeg to decode dirac codec, there are some
artefacts compared to schroedinger usage, so I'm keeping it for now.
Dirac works fine with ffmpeg internal codec, so does mpv.

I know that last time I tried to use dotNet on Fedora I had the need
to compile to Windows WinForms from Linux.
The distro repos version don't have it (likely because it's
proprietary), so I had to use the tarballs directly from Microsoft.

Aside from WinForms support I don't think there is any difference
between what you will get from Fedora than from Microsoft.
(Of course Fedora will focus compiling every open source portion from scratch).

I took it for now, but we need someone to actually care about the
package. It looks like this is one of those packages where it's
"maintained" by packit and ignored by its actual maintainers.

To be clear, I did send a PR -
https://pagure.io/fedora-infra/ansible/pull-request/2389 . But I merged
it after a few hours because I wanted to clear all this template stuff
out of my head and switch contexts.

For whatever reason it never occurred to me that a possible risk was
that gating would get effectively *completely disabled*. I was
*expecting* it not to be right first time, but I somehow figured the
worst that would happen would be that greenwave would just crash, or
everything would *fail* gating. So that's why I figured it'd be okay to
just go ahead and push it and fix up the errors once I knew what they
were, or revert if I couldn't figure them out. Obviously I was wrong
there :/

The dotnet 8.0 and 9.0 packages are available in Fedora.
