Donate 1 minute of your time to test upgrades from F40 to F41
Do you want to make Fedora 41 better? Please spend 1 minute of your time and try to run: dnf --releasever=41 --enablerepo=updates-testing --assumeno distro-sync This command does not replace `dnf system-upgrade`, but it will reveal potential problems. You may also run `dnf upgrade` before running this command. The `--assumeno` will just test the transaction, but does not make the actual upgrade. In case you hit dependency issues, please report it against the appropriate package. Or against fedora-obsolete-packages if that package should be removed in Fedora 40. Please check existing reports against fedora-obsolete-packages first: https://red.ht/2kuBDPu and also there is already lots of "Fails to install" (F40FailsToInstall) reports: http://bit.ly/3TcO0Ng One note: * you may want to run the same command with dnf5 to help test new dnf. Do not forget to add --best otherwise DNF5 hides all problems. Heads-up: python-urllib3 2.2.2 coming to F42/Rawhide
In one week (2024-09-09), or slightly later, I plan to update the python-urllib3 package from 1.26.19 to 2.2.2[1] in F42/Rawhide. Version 2 included various breaking changes[2]; there is a migration guide [3]. After a combination of porting effort and waiting for upstreams to catch up, this update now has a clean impact check[4] – FTBFS in COPR are pre-existing and not attributable to the update – except for python-wsgi_intercept, which this update *will* break. This has been brought up to the package’s maintainers a couple of times[5][6]. A patch is available[7], but upstream deems it “too fragile to be considered,” and does not seem to be making active progress on urllib3 v2 compatibility. The only package that would be directly or indirectly affected if python-wsgi_intercept were lost in Fedora is python-gabbi, an HTTP testing library. Overall, this is unfortunate, but it doesn’t seem like a sufficient reason to further delay progress on python-urllib3. If I did miss anything else in impact-testing, I apologize – let me know if I can help. I did impact-check this in Fedora 41 as well, and shipping it there would be technically feasible, but considering where we are in the release cycle, the number of packages that depend indirectly on python-urlliib3, and the lack of major known issues in the 1.x branch, I’m going to default to Rawhide-only. If your package has a direct build dependency on python-urllib3 (but not only a runtime-only one, or an indirect one via e.g. python-requests), then you should have received this email directly via cc or bcc. – Ben Beasley (FAS: music) [1] https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-urllib3/pull-request/22 [2] https://github.com/urllib3/urllib3/blob/2.2.2/CHANGES.rst#200-2023-04-26 [3] https://urllib3.readthedocs.io/en/latest/v2-migration-guide.html [4] https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/music/urllib3/packages/ [5] https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2219490#c6 [6] https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2308338 [7] https://github.com/cdent/wsgi-intercept/pull/76 -- ___ devel mailing list -- devel@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe send an email to devel-le...@lists.fedoraproject.org Fedora Code of Conduct: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/code-of-conduct/ List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org Do not reply to spam, report it: https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/new_issue

Attempting to coordinate a lasem, goffice, gnumeric, abiword and gnome-chemistry-utils update for F41 and rawhide
Hello, I recently took over gnome-chemistry-utils and lasem, both of which have to be updated. After reaching out to the developer of lasem, he decided to tag a new release with a considerable number of bug fixes and code cleanups. It so happens that lasem is a dependency of gnome-chemistry-utils, which currently fails to build in rawhide and F41. I have managed to resolve the issues and also rebuild it with the new version of lasem and in order to do that, I also had to rebuild goffice. I have pushed these changes in pagure and I've opened a couple of PRs for the two branches of goffice. As far as I can understand the dependency chain, after building lasem, next in line is goffice, then abiword and gnumeric and finally gnome-chemistry-utils. I'm afraid that I've hit a snag though, because I noticed a couple of open bugs with no activity for goffice and gnumeric, both of which have had newer releases since late May. I've added all of the mainteners involved in this message, but I have a feeling that the chain is broken somewhere. How can I proceed? Can a provenpackager lend a hand?
